Explains a lot as to why HeartGold and SoulSilver are so expensive at game stores, even used. $200 USD for a used, decade old DS cartridge but a damn fine game. First Pokémon game I'd ever played was Gold version, so yes the remakes were an amazing addition. 😁
I have one major issue with Super Mario All-Stars: the block-breaking physics in SMB1 and Lost Levels. On the NES versions, Mario rebounds off the blocks when he breaks them, but in All-Stars he jumps through them and all of your momentum is lost. But yes, the All-Stars versions of SMB2 and SMB3 are excellent.

FF7R's inclusion on this list is debatable. First and foremost, because its not a "remake" in the common sense of the word in this context, bit a complete reimagining of the story with little inact from the original. Secondly, it didn't "exceed expectations", it delivered something entirely different for an entirely different group of gamers. Anyone being honest about this will remember that what was teased, promised, then dangled in front of the fanbase for years was a visual overhaul using updated assets from Advent Children, and much more powerful hardware. That is what people wanted, perhaps with the return of some cut content to flesh some sections of the game out, but that was it. Nobody asked for a complete overhaul of the game, its story, it's mechanics, and its characters. They especially didn't ask for it across multiple, full-priced installments. Now FF7R was by no means a bomb or failure, but in reality it was entirely different from what the fanbase wanted, so its inaccurate to consider it under this lists criteria.

Hm. I did not enjoy Samus Returns - even compared to the original. The controls methods with the circle pad are not a good match imho and I truely hate the way they implemented the dodge mechanic (which does feel more like work than an option). The impression has become even more obvious after Metroid Dread optimized the controls and is much more comfortable to hold.

FF VII Remake was a sequel that shat on the characters. Cloud being moody and broody the whole time made him come off like an asshole and having Jessie go through her crisis while we knew that it was Shinra is trying to have your cake and eat it too
I have to disagree with RE4 if only because I feel like RE2 has had a longer time to leave a better impression on people and considering it was a remake of one of the PSone games it had a lot more capabilities of showing the differences when compared to RE4, which on a surface level just feels like a graphically upgraded version of the original RE4.
Also I ***greatly*** have to disagree with HG/SS if only because of Voltorb Flip alone. The inability to just outright buy the coins to get the rewards from the Game Corner that was present in every game preceding it and having to be forced to play the minigame was a huge mistake. Really about the only thing HG/SS did *right* when compared to the remainder of Gen IV was the fact it's engine was far better optimized and saving data wasn't a chore every single time you had to access the PC, and only took longer than usual if you played through the game a lot in a single session between saving. Also, the *other* thing that really did hit a nerve with HG/SS? The fact you couldn't decorate your bedroom anymore. That was one of the things I enjoyed a lot with the protagonist's home in Gen II and honestly am surprised isn't something that became a staple for every game in the series since that point onward.
I disagree with the final fantasy seven remake.... As an old school gamer who wanted a turn based remake With updated graphics we could have had it but they did not give that to us
if HGSS is on this list, ORAS better be on the next. It IS the best remake in both gameplay and sales. Only Gen 6 game worth playing again ngl. ...okay XY weren't that bad, but ORAS just knocks them out of the park for that generation.
Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 aren't remakes. There reimaginings that cut enemies/locations, changed lore and removed features that made the originals great with the zapping system and live selection choices.
I was a fan of the FFVII remake but I also kinda hated it. I was hoping for an amazing more in depth remaster of the original. The chocobo races, knights of the round, all of that. It wasn’t there. Still a good game just felt like the creative liberties were cheap and sacrificed a flawless narrative in favor of a game that just wasn’t FFVII
It ain't perfect, it's just different. No longer the same game. They just swapped for a clunkier version of controls we've already seen in Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, The Last of Us, The Evil Within, Shadow of Mordor, and BIO Revelations 2.
The first computer was created in 1852. Pong was created in 1972. It was roughly 150 years between the first building sized computers that could only add a few numbers together, and the Iphone. It took about an eighth of that time to go from pong to hyper realistic virtual reality worlds with their own ecology, economy, and fictional population. This is why I don't dismiss Simulation Theory
The fact that FF7:R is even on this list is an utter crock. 1. It's not even 1/3 of the original game 2. Half the plot is glorified fanfiction due to the time ghost shenanigans 3. It's censored across the board, forget Tifa's terrible over designed monochromatic "improved" look, they censored most of the course language Barrett used to swear like a sailer and now he barely has a personality to speak of, several plot points such as the Honey Bee Inn, Hojo's twisted treatment/plans for Aerith during her captivity at ShinRa, Jenova/Sephiroths rampage through ShinRa, the list goes on. 4. The combat system completely robbed people of any freedom of choice, instead of fighting however you wanted you HAD to fight their way due to the stagger system they integrated, otherwise you'd be hacking away at basic enemies for an hour cause you weren't using the damn method they wanted you to, CLOUD IS SWINGING A 7 FOOT PIECE OF IRON AND BARRET HAS A GUN FOR AN ARM EVERY HIT SHOULD STAGGER, and took all control away from players when it came to when and how to use summons, and god forbid you use a limit break right before one of their goofy cinematic boss phase transitions cause you're gonna end up doing 0 damage due to the boss becoming invincible at set points of health to initiate the transitions... 5. For the english dub they couldn't even be bothered to hire the existing voice actors from past entries who have been voicing the characters for years, across various FF installations and stuff like Kingdom Hearts. Aside from the graphics and music the Remake was a bloody insult, not an accomplishment. I had my complaints about the Dead Space Remake, but it sure as hell deserves to be on this list more than FF7:R
Yea well good flop. FF7R is an absolute slap in the face to the people who grew up playing and loving the original. Don't get me wrong, it IS a good game, I enjoy it, but it is NOT a remake and it isn't the FF7 most fans wanted. If they had told us from the off that it was alternate timeline /reboot, then fine, that could have been acceptable. Instead Kinase literally lied to us and told us "no big changes" were happening.
GIVE US A PROPER FF8 REMAKE!!! 7 got we know...and 9 is getting a remake...and 8 only got a port F that ....give us the first 3d FF in the franchise a proper remake
Gonna have to disagree with numba 1. Resi 3's REmake was meh at best and Resident Evil 4 plays better but thats about it. Short of a couple of character changes the entire story feels worse.
Doesn’t even play better. I’ll take the laser precise chef’s kiss tank controls of the original over the clunky, floaty, stun lock heavy, stagger RNG gameplay of the remake.
@ZombiemanTemple Ah, not gonna lie I forgot my rage early on of the nonsense that was 4 shots to the head for a flinch. Once you play on professional and have to get stupidly good with the parry system, a lot of the other bullshit disappeared from the mind 😅
Disagree with RE4. RE4 is one of my favorite games and the remake definitely did a great job. Perfect though? I think not. No U-3 boss fight, no Ada in Mercenaries, no assignment Ada, no separate ways. Granted Capcom may add these in DLC, which would be great. Sadly you never know with Capcom… Also praising them for adding quality of life features shouldn’t be the reason why it’s “perfect”. Things like weapon shortcuts have been in since RE2 remake, at this point it’s expected to have those features.
As a fan of the original FF7, I’m appalled anyone can call the remake better. The original game was a complete package: with fantastic story, characters, lore, progression, exploration, and battle system. Remake takes the first 5 hours of the game and literally pads out the run time with little to no world building. Remake has something around 15-20 hours of padding. So much padding that there are full chapters that are only padding. Mini games are less game and more padding. Heck even enemy encounters are padded to heck and back. FF7R is symbolic of everything wrong in the games industry. All graphics and presentation, padding, with a smattering of lizard brain “Push Button at Exact Moment or Die” gameplay. It’s far from perfect and it makes the FF7 franchise worse with its existence.
I agree that the FF7 Remake shouldn't be on this list. The best thing about it was most definitely the combat. But I also agree with you that the padding was ridiculous. It actually ruined the game for me (even though I finished it). Another thing that also took me out of the game is the character interactions (acting, voice acting and dialogue) . After seeing characters interact in and out of cutscenes in games such as TLOU, the recent Resident Evils and God of War, it's very hard to go back to the FF character interactions. With those annoying squeaky Japanese schoolgirl voices and sounds, characters over-expressively emoting and moving in a way that works perfectly in a system with severe graphical limitations, but looks ridiculous on a powerful system that can have people moving realistically (even in a fantasy setting) and that too neatly spoken and over-explanatory dialogue that fits text way better than spoken word. Because of those two things, I never really managed to get engaged and immersed into that world. I just stayed for the combat mechanics.
I’d still kill for an FF6 remake with 7 remake’s battle system, especially if they made it co-op and expanded the story. I’m of that age where 6 will always be greater than 7. Mostly need to rebalance how espers make every character essentially the same and make the individual character skills more substantially relevant to play style.
"I’m of that age where 6 will always be greater than 7." So am I, which begs me to ask why in the ever-loving gingersnap hell would you want to destroy it with the garbage battle system of FF7R?
Resident Evil is my favourite gaming series easy.. I’m just not a massive fan of the RE4 Remake it was kind of a drag. I know it’s loved by many I just I dunno it wasn’t for me..
The original RE4’s gameplay was just so damn precise and satisfying, while RE4R’s gameplay is just a claustrophobic mad dash of cheap ass stun locks and unreliable stagger RNG. It’s a truly terrible remake that disgraces virtually every part of the original. It saddens me deeply that it has become the definitive way to experience RE4 by all the gen z losers, and the original is becoming all but forgotten.
Yeaaaaah probavly gonna be an unpopular opinion but I'll stand by it.FF7 remake/sequel is kinda what's wrong with the remakes lol. Bland, overly padded, garbage voice acting, convoluted plot revisions..just a giant cash cow from an incredible IP that deserved way more than what Nomura has done to it.
Um the first Pokémon in the player’s party walking with them wasn’t introduced in HeartGold and SoulSilver. It was actually introduced in Diamond and Pearl where you could have cute Pokémon like your starter walk with you in Amity Park. How do I know this? I’ve played Diamond and Pearl. Also, the move Rock Climb was introduced in Diamond and Pearl. So basically, HeartGold and SoulSilver happened because of Diamond and Pearl. HeartGold and SoulSilver didn’t come before Diamond, Pearl and Platinum but after.
Pokemon Yellow had Pikachu following you around first. But D/P/P was the first to have a wider selection of pokemon to follow in that one area. And then SSHG was the first to let us have the pokemon follow everywhere.
@@lyrainealei7848 I don’t get why What Culture Gaming says that HeartGold and SoulSilver introduced the Pokémon following you around mechanic when it was done first in Pokémon Yellow and also don’t get why they said that Rock Climbing was also introduced in HeartGold and SoulSilver when Diamond and Pearl actually introduced the move Rock Climb. Oh I do get why they said that. Because they didn’t play any of the previous Pokémon games.
We're gonna have to agree to disagree on FF7. It doesn't hold the same impact as the original. The brothel area is too clean and almost glorified. Despite the fact that in the original it's filled with females that were sold to settle debts. In the original, Sector 7 was a slum and horribly poverty stricken. It gives you feelings for its denizens because of the conditions they are forced to live their lives in. By the time they drop the plate on it, you are fully invested in defending these people and making their situation better. The remake just isn't there.
@@OversoulGaming that's a cheap excuse. They knew they were stepping on toes and not putting out a faithful product. They had no intention of doing so. They've already made a statement about Chocobo races not being a thing. Despite it being loved so many fans.
@@carminescurse The really sad part is that Yoshinori Kitase literally told us, in his own words, that they weren't going to make any big changes or crazy departures from the original game. He straight up lied to us. I actually DO like the remake, I do, but it's NOT FFVII in the way it should have been. If they told us from the start this was going to be alternate timeline/things will be different, I'd have been able to accept that a lot more easily. Instead we were lied to and are now being strung along while they figure out what they can piece out for DLC and suck more money out of us.
The FF7 Remake was better in the sense that the graphics were fantastic and that several minor characters are more fleshed out. But in every other way, it is vastly inferior. 1. The battle system is the same Kingdom Hearts-style garbage that renders two of your party members virtually useless and prioritizes button-mashing over strategy. 2. The Dementors subplot was totally nonsensical and could have been completely removed by telling everyone up front “this isn’t going to be the exact same game”. 3. Sephiroth was shoehorned in as the final villain of the installment when he is barely in the game and was not the antagonist you had been fighting to that point. 4. Most importantly, the game is only a first installment instead of a finished product.
Not only are Gold and Silver the WORST games in the Pokemon franchise, Heartgold & Soulsilver did NOTHING to address the originals' fundamental flaws, focusing on fluff instead. Good remake of a bad game is still a bad game.

And a massive gameplay DOWNGRADE.
WHAT YEAR WERE THEY RELEASED IN BLOODY HELL THIS IS TOP 10S 101 SHT HERE
I disagree with the final fantasy seven remake.... As an old school gamer who wanted a turn based remake With updated graphics we could have had it but they did not give that to us
Agreed it's not even a remake more a re imagined as its a new story
I hope Nosferatu: the wrath of Malachi will have it's own remake
What now
I want a Banjo Kazooie/Tooie Remake!
The ff7 “remake” is a disgrace to the original game and the all stars remakes butchered the Mario trilogy
pokemon heartgold and soulsilver was the best remake for pokemon and the last...hope the gamecube games get a remake combination with new stuff.
if HGSS is on this list, ORAS better be on the next. It IS the best remake in both gameplay and sales. Only Gen 6 game worth playing again ngl. ...okay XY weren't that bad, but ORAS just knocks them out of the park for that generation.
Notveven a mention of the Dead Space remake???
Guess this list needs a...... remake. 😏
Ok I'll let myself out now.
Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 aren't remakes. There reimaginings that cut enemies/locations, changed lore and removed features that made the originals great with the zapping system and live selection choices.
They are remakes even if they are reimaginings but with everything else you're right, screw 'em, perfected they say...
What a pointless comment, almost as pointless as my reply
@@Ertdoinn reply which is also almost as pointless as making reimaginings of games and not faithful ones at least.
2 was a massive improvement over og. Still the king of remakes imo. 3 was just decent, and 4 was a soul crushing disgrace.
1. It's not even 1/3 of the original game
2. Half the plot is glorified fanfiction due to the time ghost shenanigans
We need a damn Playboy mansion game already
How is the resident evil for the cube not here !! Jelws shame on you
I was thinking the same
I would argue that Ashley is equally as insufferable as she was in the original. They just replaced “LEON HELP!” With a scream. 🤦🏽♂️
I have no memory of the Salazar robot
ANOTHER list with Shadow of the Colossus on it.
The remastered version of Gears of War should of made this list 🎉
Remaster is not a remake.
Hard disagree on Metroid: Samus Returns. The remake of the original Metroid 2: Return of Samus that was PERFECT was AM2R.
Now the remake that evolve backwards
Disagree with RE4. RE4 is one of my favorite games and the remake definitely did a great job. Perfect though? I think not. No U-3 boss fight, no Ada in Mercenaries, no assignment Ada, no separate ways. Granted Capcom may add these in DLC, which would be great. Sadly you never know with Capcom…
Also praising them for adding quality of life features shouldn’t be the reason why it’s “perfect”. Things like weapon shortcuts have been in since RE2 remake, at this point it’s expected to have those features.
I honestly think “did a great job” would be a stretch.
@@ZombiemanTemple In comparison to RE3 remake id say it's great lmao
Not to mention the fact that the final villain was barely in the game and was not who you had been fighting up to that point.
"I’m of that age where 6 will always be greater than 7."
So am I, which begs me to ask why in the ever-loving gingersnap hell would you want to destroy it with the garbage battle system of FF7R?
@@mage1439 Because your opinion isn't the only opinion.
They say hat System Shock, the game i care most on this list, is also a big time waste of backtracking and a chore in crafting.
Resident Evil is my favourite gaming series easy.. I’m just not a massive fan of the RE4 Remake it was kind of a drag. I know it’s loved by many I just I dunno it wasn’t for me..
I hope P3R to be the case.
Gears of War Ultimate is my favorite remake
What about Yakuza Kiwami 2??
No DS or Metroid Prime remake/remaster? 😅
I have to disagree with the FF7 Re-Imagining and the RE4. While the 2 are good games they do not come across as "perfect".
Far from it.
Erm, Dead Space???
hey what about Dead Space?
9. it was a good remastered or remake.
Legend of zelda ocarina of time 3ds remake
I kinda object to the FF7 Remake being on this list, 'cus we only have the first part of it so far.
It’s also not a real remake! How is it perfect as a “remake” if it changes the story and cuts 75% of the original content!?
It also exists in a separate timeline from the original so there's that.
At this point it's a continuation, or alternative/multiverse version of things. I don't count it as a remake and greatly prefer the original
