I really hope they do full length reviews for the decks like they did for C18, I really like getting the upgrade suggestions for the decks (as a newer commander player)

To be honest, as an animar morph player i'm a bit disappointed. I was hoping to see a lot of new morph cards, while they are almost only reprints of cheap old morphs
They didn't have the room to make a lot of new Morphs. The decks only get 17-18 new cards. If all those cards were Morphs, people would be really mad, since this is the one time of year we get cards made specifically for Commander.
I completely agree, we only really got 2 new morphs and one was an enchantment, and there aren't really any new synergizes besides kadenna herself. Was really hoping for at least a few more new morphs/synergies
*Sol Ring is still one of the most valuable reprints* ... Is is really that hard to put at least one much needed 10+ bucks (€) reprint in each deck? They used to do it when the precons where cheaper...
LedPESRule yeah but WOTC realized they can make more money by providing lower value at a higher price. Last year was an absolute low, but they said they will provide more value for a lower price in the future. So these decks should be expected to be better than last year, which they seem to be.
I'm really disappointed in the reprint value. They're not really helping reduce the cost entry barrier to commander or providing staples that new players will need. It's just non-stop bulk reprints in this deck.
When they said there were going to be good reprints this time around, Vedalken Orrery came to my mind, too. If they are going to reprint it and it's not in this deck, Sevinne is probably the next best bet.
Just a PSA In the "other" section on the MTG website that has the deck list there is a card called road of return. To find the card on Google you will need to search for path of return.
In future I’d like to see the total value of $2+ reprints in addition to the total reprint value The Prof usually does it that way and it’s more informative
this might be good against other precons that mainly wins via creatures dealing combat dmg, but i worry the ceiling is gonna pretty low on this deck its like vampiric bloodlust, pretty good outta the box but doesnt do well against more competitive decks still debating whether to grab this
@@mrsilverbutton7786 yep, thats fair, i just want like ONE SOLID card, that i can use in more competitive decks, and i can abuse IF i ever decide to. Gerrard and K’rrik look interesting from that perspective
I was looking at some morph related cards. I built a Tarkir block Morph deck back in the day and two cards I enjoyed playing were Obscuring Aether and Gudul Lurker. Are 1-drops just not that highly sought after in EDH? I know morph uses different costs, but having Obscuring Aether on board with Ugin could make every morph free and if you're unable to play anything with flash or don't have creatures in hand, Aether can flip itself face-down. As for Lurker, it can megamorph and then it can't be blocked. That one may do better to be forgotten, but I was surprised I didn't hear Obscuring Aether, so I had to ask "why?"
i'm litteraly SOOO hyped for this deck!! Been eyeing morph as a archtype for a LONG time, but never was able to make it work with Animar. Kadena however looks like a perfect match for the morph theme, and the addition of black over red sounds good to me as well! Super happy with the reprints in this deck, and can't wait to start fiddling and messing about with the list itself and journy into the wonky lands of morhping, manifesting and explaining the rules 100x over and over! (maybe an idea for a future episode? Or section? Rules interaction with morph?)
Eric Heidgerd I understand that. What I mean is that we JUST had an amazing Sultai commander released and, at least for me, that is kind of dampening my excitement for a commander deck built around Sultai.
Yarok is a poorly designed card, in all honesty. Just giving huge blanket value on the most common action in the game for every single permanent type in the most powerful colors of the format is forever going to lead to players questioning why they aren't just running Yarok instead of most other commanders. A boring, generically powerful design that is going to be stronger than the majority of your other options isn't very compelling.
Summoned Skull I see where your coming from on that, but I think he’s actually a great commander that allows for many different strategies. The ones I’ve seen have all focused on the same “avenger of zendicar/landfall” strategy. For me, I focused on using bounce creatures and creatures that create wide tokens (excluding Avenger). I do agree with your statement on his power, but that’s just because unimaginative people are netdecking the same deck, which can be said of every commander. Yarok is extremely powerful but he gives life to a bunch of strategies and approaches that, from what I’ve seen, just haven’t been used. Yarok, in this regard, is the perfect commander to me. He’s powerful and lends himself to a wide range of builds, but the main problem , imo, is that people have largely been unimaginative with him.
i loved the deck list! my only issue is that they missed the biggest opportunity to reprint ixidor and a new dual type land (i would love to see then finish the battle/tango land cycle, but i think that they are waiting to finish this cycle in standard, even so we do need more enemy-colored dual type lands)

Sevinne is definitely being slept on imo. There are so many ways to cast spells from your grave, even without the use of flashback, and being able to copy them is ridiculous
I love that it looks like the mana base is appreciably above the usual average. The mana base is the one thing that a new player will use regardless of the specifics of the commander, so it has always confused me why the mana bases of previous incarnations have been rather lackluster.
@@LedPESRule There are a few in the 8-10 USD range and a fair number in the 5 USD range. The reprints are at least average in this particular deck. Which given the uptick in deck quality, I think we can agree is acceptable.

What's the reprint value if you only count the 2-dollar and up cards? Sub dollar values are nearly valueless because they aren't worth selling and are hard to trade alone. Plus any card that's already below 2bux is just going to tank after this print.
I love reprints of cheap cards, because makes even more affordable to my unemployed friends. Many of my friends don't play EDH because of the price tag of focused decks, despite liking the game.

The morph deck was the only one I was on the fence about buying, but now that I've seen the reprints and new cards I think I'll pick it up as a collector and to get the cards for parts
The lands aren't that bad this year. A few 2-3 dollar lands Bojuku bog, myriad landscape, ashen barrens, reliquary tower. Not to mention some of the dollar plus dual lands.
Example: Apex Altisaur seems to be totaly random in this deck. It has no synergies with any of the included legendary creatures and strategies. It doesnt trigger if I turn it up with manifest. Black has also cheaper ways to deal with creatures. Why didn't they design such creature with a morph keyword?
Ok so with Thespian Stage were I to use its ability on an Arixmethes with any number of slumber counters, making it a land, does Thespian Stage become a 12/12 creature because it has no slumber counters on it?
talking up the price of reprints felt a little tawdry. like... that one came straight from wotc. but looking at the decklist, there's no chance that deck holds much value in the reprints. Seedborn muse is already available at $5 ish dollars on the battlebond reprint. This will push it even further down. Couple $1 pain lands and $2 lands in thesp stage or orchard. Can already get the RtR copy of the planeswalker for just under $2 i think the staple ramp cards are nice... but eh, these should be printed into the dirt for our format. There's not a lot in the reprints that at all noteworthy outside of seedborn muse. A bunch of Khans bulk rares... aren't really worth the $1 to 75 cents they probably list at I mean, anyone want to take odds that a year from now Sol Ring isn't the highest value non-new card in the deck?
Well, I'm really happy for the manabase of this deck, probably the best since Commander 2016. That will make fixing better for poor people who don't have much money to spend on the game.
We made lists of each reprint, looked up the prices, created spreadsheets, and added the number together. No one asked us to do it, it was a decision we made on our own. It added up to that number. @@commandcast I'm not really questioning the methodology, if you mass entry the decklist into TCG player it responds back with a price of over $100 . I get it, what i'm saying, and what i think most enfranchised players know is that those numbers are misleading, and don't speak to value. So... it's a can of worms best left unopened. Sure... if you have 40 cards at $2 a card... that adds up to $80 or whatever. But the reality is, a lot of those are bulk, or most people own them, or can find them in $1 bins or 2 for a dollar bins at GPs all day long... You can't sell the cards for that $95 figure, so right out the gate the idea of "worth" is undermined. And honestly, it's not even a question of monetary value... there's some good entry lvl cards in the deck, the pain lands, the green ramp, some of the utility lands or creatures... or like you all mentioned, Thran dynamo. But to any enfranchised player they look at the deck, and see... Seedborn Muse. and possibly a chance to pick up tempt with discovery cheap if they don't own it... And for a new player, they're better off not concerning themselves with the silliness of mtg finance... just focus on... you got pretty much a complete green ramp suite and reality shift is an excellent include that's on theme, and actually playable... same with ixodron. If you're buying this precon as speculator you're doing so hoping a new card will be a T's Protection or something along those lines. I dunno... i just kinda think it's maybe not an aspect worth touching on. You can't win...I kinda feel like talk of reprints and values is sorta toxic or corrupted...and ultimately divisive. although i apologize for the knee-jerk "schill" implication.
I know leyline and vedalken orery are good cards, but has anyone considered running alchemist's refuge in the deck to get the ability to morph on other people's turn for free using her ability
And potentially spoil the card instead of where it was the supposed to be? They admitted they were recording in advance and so they cant know which new cards are already known, so they probably played it safe.

I'm still not sure whether or not to buy a precon this year. I was left feeling kinda cheated after buying the Aminatou deck last year. This was the deck I was most interested in this year. There are some cards I like the looks of in this deck, but I think I may be better off just buying a few singles, rather than dropping $50 on a deck.
Not enough new cards. There are very few cards in the deck that can actually win a game and their impact is pretty low. The best one is Overwhelming Stampede = tasteless cliché. I was expecting a more sophisticated deck with some new effects, but no..
Everyone chill my goodness thers 97 buck in reprints in this deck and that not including the new stuff i wouldnt be surprised if theses decks were valued at 130ish even more as time passes cmob thats great value i for on am super excited for this deck and the others. Also good job jimmy and josh you guys rock!
@@olah420 if it drops it'll be in the ballpark of 65-75 and again thats just reprints that dose not include all the new cards the commanders them self at minimal will be in the 3-6 dollar range so either way im willing to bet there'll be over 100bucks in value more so once people realise how broken some of the new cards will be
I am incredibly surprised to not see Ixidor reprinted. There are a bunch of other cards I'd have expected to see, but they're mostly all from Tarkir and are pretty easy to get hold of. Ixidor being so old is gonna be hard to find, he's gonna sky rocket in price.
Getting back into MTG after a decade, and this has been my first buy. Very happy with my decision; but the only critique I can give is too much mana filter. I'm sitting here drawing every land I don't need with conditions for play and such, so I feel like I'm starting slow.

The morph deck was the only one I was on the fence about buying, but now that I've seen the reprints and new cards I think I'll pick it up as a collector and to get the cards for parts

I think whisperwood elemental with sensei divining top would be a great fit in this deck.
Why does this have so much bulk? like, 40 lands? Really? What's with the lack of guild signets?
The lands aren't that bad this year. A few 2-3 dollar lands Bojuku bog, myriad landscape, ashen barrens, reliquary tower. Not to mention some of the dollar plus dual lands.
I hoped they would at least go through the other commander options in the deck

Example: Apex Altisaur seems to be totaly random in this deck. It has no synergies with any of the included legendary creatures and strategies. It doesnt trigger if I turn it up with manifest. Black has also cheaper ways to deal with creatures. Why didn't they design such creature with a morph keyword?
They usually put a few cards/commanders to be used in otherdecks or build your own ect

Ok so with Thespian Stage were I to use its ability on an Arixmethes with any number of slumber counters, making it a land, does Thespian Stage become a 12/12 creature because it has no slumber counters on it?

talking up the price of reprints felt a little tawdry. like... that one came straight from wotc. but looking at the decklist, there's no chance that deck holds much value in the reprints. Seedborn muse is already available at $5 ish dollars on the battlebond reprint. This will push it even further down. Couple $1 pain lands and $2 lands in thesp stage or orchard. Can already get the RtR copy of the planeswalker for just under $2 i think the staple ramp cards are nice... but eh, these should be printed into the dirt for our format. There's not a lot in the reprints that at all noteworthy outside of seedborn muse. A bunch of Khans bulk rares... aren't really worth the $1 to 75 cents they probably list at

Yeah, a few cards in the 2-4€ range is ok at best, certainly not value-reprinting
Well, I'm really happy for the manabase of this deck, probably the best since Commander 2016. That will make fixing better for poor people who don't have much money to spend on the game.
Going by TCGPlayer's listed Market prices and disregarding every reprint under $1.00, I got a total of +/- $75.
We made lists of each reprint, looked up the prices, created spreadsheets, and added the number together. No one asked us to do it, it was a decision we made on our own. It added up to that number. If you'd like to see the spreadsheet, we're more than happy to share it so you can see where the number came from. - jimmy
@@commandcast I'm not really questioning the methodology, if you mass entry the decklist into TCG player it responds back with a price of over $100 . I get it, what i'm saying, and what i think most enfranchised players know is that those numbers are misleading, and don't speak to value. So... it's a can of worms best left unopened. Sure... if you have 40 cards at $2 a card... that adds up to $80 or whatever. But the reality is, a lot of those are bulk, or most people own them, or can find them in $1 bins or 2 for a dollar bins at GPs all day long... You can't sell the cards for that $95 figure, so right out the gate the idea of "worth" is undermined. And honestly, it's not even a question of monetary value... there's some good entry lvl cards in the deck, the pain lands, the green ramp, some of the utility lands or creatures... or like you all mentioned, Thran dynamo. But to any enfranchised player they look at the deck, and see... Seedborn Muse. and possibly a chance to pick up tempt with discovery cheap if they don't own it... And for a new player, they're better off not concerning themselves with the silliness of mtg finance... just focus on... you got pretty much a complete green ramp suite and reality shift is an excellent include that's on theme, and actually playable... same with ixodron. If you're buying this precon as speculator you're doing so hoping a new card will be a T's Protection or something along those lines.
I dunno... i just kinda think it's maybe not an aspect worth touching on. You can't win...I kinda feel like talk of reprints and values is sorta toxic or corrupted...and ultimately divisive.

And potentially spoil the card instead of where it was the supposed to be? They admitted they were recording in advance and so they cant know which new cards are already known, so they probably played it safe.

Some nice cards, but such little morph support. As a Morphzuri player, I get two new toys in this and not much reason to rebuild it as Sultai

I'm still not sure whether or not to buy a precon this year. I was left feeling kinda cheated after buying the Aminatou deck last year. This was the deck I was most interested in this year. There are some cards I like the looks of in this deck, but I think I may be better off just buying a few singles, rather than dropping $50 on a deck.

Not enough new cards. There are very few cards in the deck that can actually win a game and their impact is pretty low. The best one is Overwhelming Stampede = tasteless cliché. I was expecting a more sophisticated deck with some new effects, but no..

Everyone chill my goodness thers 97 buck in reprints in this deck and that not including the new stuff i wouldnt be surprised if theses decks were valued at 130ish even more as time passes cmob thats great value i for on am super excited for this deck and the others. Also good job jimmy and josh you guys rock!

@@olah420 if it drops it'll be in the ballpark of 65-75 and again thats just reprints that dose not include all the new cards the commanders them self at minimal will be in the 3-6 dollar range so either way im willing to bet there'll be over 100bucks in value more so once people realise how broken some of the new cards will be

I am incredibly surprised to not see Ixidor reprinted. There are a bunch of other cards I'd have expected to see, but they're mostly all from Tarkir and are pretty easy to get hold of. Ixidor being so old is gonna be hard to find, he's gonna sky rocket in price.
Getting back into MTG after a decade, and this has been my first buy. Very happy with my decision; but the only critique I can give is too much mana filter. I'm sitting here drawing every land I don't need with conditions for play and such, so I feel like I'm starting slow.
When do we get deck list for the other 3, this just happens to be the one out of the 4 I have zero interest in.
This deck looks quite good. Looking forward to the other ones.
