While I understand the game China is playing, I find the concern of the West for Africa as rather shallow and fake. It's not so much that the West cares about African people but rather feels threatened by a new rising player.
Well said. The west has never cared for the welfare for other countries or its people. It’s always had agendas even before the rise of Russia and China. @@hlgstowig9405 it literally doesn't matter. if the valuation of products are identical and the buying power is the same then the actual comparative value of nominal quantities of different currencies means absolutely nothing. if it costs $6 CAD or AUD to buy something thats $4 USD or 3 GBP or EUR, in each respective country and $6 CAD/AUD = $4 USD = 3 GBP/EUR, everyone is paying exactly the same price and the currencies and goods will continue to be interchangeable relative to its international value. if the average australian makes $90,000 AUD / year and the average american makes $30,000 USD a year when the currencies are $6 AUD = $4 USD, the average australian is making 2.2x more money than the average american. if things cost 2.2x more in australia, then the spending power of the australian will be the same as the american. P.S. i originally wanted to use $60,000 AUD as an easy in your head comparison, knowing it was slightly low, and $30,000 USD thinking it would be extremely low, then i checked and the australian salary is actually $90,000 and the us salary was pretty much correct. americans are just poor lol. also the exchange rate i used was slightly off because i was using pre covid numbers. its actually $6 AUD to $4.6 USD. i dont think things are 2.2x as expensive in australia as america (they are more expensive, just not 2.2x) so the buying power in australia is higher than america, irrespective of the value of the currency. that means an australian travelling to america with his AUD will be able to buy a lot more than an american travelling to australia with their USD.

I don’t think there has been a lot of coverage because people are waiting for the other shoe to drop. For the most part these projects have been a tremendous boon to their African countries, and so far China has been extremely generous with low interest rates allowing payback deferrals and often loan forgiveness. People are waiting to see if China is attempting to build partnerships like the US Marshal plan or attempting to act like a imperial power like the US did in South America.
Keeps asking what is China's motive, but he never really hits the mark. There are 3 types of motives for China. 1) short term economic motives involves exporting China's excessive construction capacities. These projects keeps the Chinese construction sector growing, all those constructions needs materials and expertise, a railroad projects requires concrete, steel, to the smallest things like seat covers or the fire extinguishers, all of these things can be bought from China. So China is using its massive US dollar foreign reserves to boost demand in Chinese goods and materials, but doing it abroad. This is seriously a smart move. 2) political motives, Africa as a continents has the most sovereign nations of all continents, 54. That's very useful in the UN general assembly. 3) long term economic goals. China seeks to develop Africa into a market for Chinese goods as well as capital goods, this needs to involve building up a stable supply chain for manufacturing in Africa. These economies would then need to buy Chinese machineries. Factories set up through Chinese investment, would also prioritize Chinese machineries and materials. This would create a symbiotic relationship between China and Africa. So the ultimate goal for China is to build up Africa, which is why the often touted, "debt trap" doesn't make any sense. China wants to make a good return in their investment, NOT hoping for the African country to default on its debt, something that hurts China financially. And would be detrimental to the long term goal of China in Africa.
Very well said! Falling into the debt trap is definitely the last thing that China wants to see happens on those countries. But there is a potential drawback. As the ecnomical tie between China and Africa gets stabler, the racial tension between two peoples will emerge since the human resources are more frequently exchanged. This is something that non-Chinese usually can't see. Chinese society is very conservative in terms of racial equality.
Thank you, an honest analysis unlike some stupid Westerners who demonize China and ignore that French, British and American foriegn policy is worse than what they try to paint China as. Some of them seem to forget that the IMF and World Bank require countries to privatize and pass austerity measures and when America doesn't like a leader they overthrow them or kill them off including the democratically elected ones such as Zelaya in Honduras in 2009. Then there's France that basically controls some African countries' currencies.
@@xingchenfan7923 This is some colonial mindset the Africans need to shed off. China is not their next colonial master. China is just trying to help Africans building up their own countries (with trade). Chinese and Africans should be equal, which means there's no reason for the Africans to want to immigrate to China. China is not trying to impose another racial class system world order, by wanting to become "Chinese" doesn't help the Africans climbing up the colonial racial hierarchy like they did with the westerners last times. If Africans truly believe in themselves and their country, they should put all their heart into building their country into a prosperous one, like China did. China has its own immense population problem and is not an immigrant country to begin with, so do not try to immigrate to China and that's really not part of China's offer.

The issue with Kenya's railway is simple. 1.We needed the infrastructure to support development. 2. The Chinese segregated themselves from Kenyans but we would have segregated ourselves from the Chinese workers all the same. 3. They built the railway because if it had been left to Kenyan contractors they would have inflated the price and cut corners on build quality In short it's better to hand over our ownership to the ports (if we default) but still have a chance to continue developing than to wait for the west to give us high interest loans and still own us. And lastly, don't forget that currently most of the major European ports are partially Chinese owned

Wait, so you are complaining because they have "done a shit ton for us"?? Like...if somebody else does a shit ton of things "for" me, I would maybe, just maybe, show a little appreciation instead...
I was gonna post the same thing, but at the same time it was not well reported for.... kind of obvious reasons. Most news organizations don't care about things like this unfortunately.
Swaziland was a name that the British colony gave to the land of the Swazis hence Swaziland originally the land was called eSwatini. Most of our documents, passports etc have the kingdom of Eswatini since forever. But I would love to see a video on such too or something else on the kingdom like the relationship between Eswatini and Taiwan.
If the African governments listened to petitions alone, the continent wouldn’t have landed in this plight in the first place. Perhaps fix the corruption then fix the debt.
You need to see further my brother, what contribute a Kenya's 5 times GDP/per capita growth since 2000, or how did China grow so fast in the last couple decades... INFRASTRUCTURE!!! Did the western way worked before? the last couple hundred years. it was being divided and kept weak by colonialists, exploited at the lowest cost... and every investment are based on certain trust. Sad thing is the Westerners never saw African as equal human being to even consider invest before now... and now we call China setting up debt trap... COME ON man
Johnny Harris, you've literally hit on some of the points I've just had to make in my final year university essay.... Where was this video a few weeks back 😂
I’m Congolese; debt is killing us Africans. Thank you for spreading awareness. Most Africans are ignorant to the Actual cost of dealing with China. Some countries like Botswana have smart leaders who negotiate mutually beneficial loans but for the rest of us with greedy leaders this is colonialism 3.0 not 2.0 because Neo colonialism is something that most African countries have not recovered from, we are still paying back the “debts” we owe to our former colonizers.
Recommend reading «Confessions of an economic hitman» by John Perkins, about how he, on behalf of the USA, operated in South American countries to establish a debt-relation with the USA.
Glad you pointed this out! The rename to eSwatini was a way for the country to step away from colonialism relics and claim a name that wasn't given to them by invaders.
When Admiral Cheng Ho huge fleet reach my ancestor land, my land is not being colonised. When British small gun ship come, suddenly the whole Indian continent become British ATM
When USA and west European countries come to my country Serbia in 1999 they come to bomb, destroy and killing many people. Now China come and build bridges, tunnels, roads which helping us to improve our economy. Yes, we have dept to China, but if we and African countries have money to pay that immediately, of course we would pay. Nobody force those countries to invite China to build those roads and trains. Our governments invite China to help us.
the west enslaved Africa by the sword and massacre in Africa. Thiaroye massacre, Namaqua genocide, gruesome massacre, The Wiriyamu massacre and many many more and we have one example for chines way of enslave by debt , hambantato port. that they can use for military base. on the other hand - According to David Vine, professor of political anthropology at the American University in Washington, DC, the US had around 750 bases in at least 80 countries as of July 2021. The actual number may be even higher as not all data is published by the Pentagon.
As a South African, the positive change from partnerships with China can easily be seen. But whenever African countries deal with the West, they're usually just left with massive deebt.

Only now this “concern” for Chinese expansion is a last ditch and desperate effort to hold onto what little power they have left. Honestly I feel China as a world power might be a nice change. At least they don’t go around invading countries for oil.

I still can’t look at your hair the same way... how does it look so good without shampoo?!
I don’t use shampoo either; after a week it looks better
Ikr
Shampoo strips your hair of natural oils which-when in balance when you stop shampooing- (it can take a few weeks or even months) leave hair naturally soft and healthy. You have to do it gradually over time to make the transition. Even if you only wash your hair once a seek, that's a start.
I haven't used shampoo since a week after that video came out, just use hot water and give it a good clean. My hair looks great and genuinely my scalp isn't as dry and flakey. Can't quite believe it and feel great!!

I don't think the US does the same. The US would be a bit more subtle; if they needed to spy on someone they would send a CIA agent.
It's literally their job. My dad's a network systems engineer. This is literally what they do.
@@mnorth1351 The US does this, but if they wanted to spy on one of these nations they wouldn’t have a server connect to the US directly, they would have it connect to a local proxy first. It shifts the blame if they get caught and it looks less suspicious. The US military builds infrastructure in other countries all the time, and the CIA has setup front businesses in other countries just to have a foothold in order to run espionage rings. That’s nothing compared to Russian/Soviet espionage though. Russia has always run circles around the US when it comes to espionage, but we will see if that’s still true in 50 years when espionage campaigns get declassified. Now that espionage has become so tied to hacking it is really a matter of who is willing to throw the most money at the problem. Look at stuxnet. An attack that was almost certainly a joint operation between the CIA and Israeli intelligence.

@@PLKartofel Why is that every racist person thinks a "Chinese person" automatically lives in China?

3. They built the railway because if it had been left to Kenyan contractors they would have inflated the price and cut corners on build quality
In short it's better to hand over our ownership to the ports (if we default) but still have a chance to continue developing than to wait for the west to give us high interest loans and still own us.
