Corkscrew is not only a bottle opener.
Here are just some useful things it can do:
    1. Opens corked bottles (duh!)
    2. Untie knots.
    3. Pry the battery out of a cell phone.
    4. Screw it into a wall and hang your coat on the SAK.
    5. Staple remover.
    6. Smooth out the hole you just made with the reamer.
    7. Clear clogged faucet sprayer.
    8. Bicycle tire valve tool.
    9. Holds the micro screwdriver.
    10. Pick gravel out of tires.
    11. Rip open a blister package.
    12. Ice pick.
    13. Mark a pilot hole.
    14. Clean mud out of shoe soles.
    15. Knot the end of a cord. Thread it through the corkscrew. Handle.
    16. Pop balloons.
    17. Aides in sewing.
    18. Clean mud out of sprinkler heads.
    19. Push used snare wire through it, to straighten out the wire and remove coils or kinks.
    20. Pulls the drain plug out of a tub.
    21. Open the corkscrew and screw it tightly into a broomstick-thickness stick. Now open the blade. Tie it securely. Survival spear for fishing.
    22. Hang the SAK from a piece of cordage from the ceiling. Plumb bob (I have the middle of the handle marked on one mine).
    23. Corkscrew + a metal lid = a filter or wire mesh for cooking.
    24. Carry a chunk of C4.
    25. Pull frozen shoestrings tight, or help loosen them.
    26. Helps get the innards out of a squirrel.
    27. Gets the candle stub out of a candle holder.
    28. Start fights on multitool forums.
    29. Remove the fuel filter from a lawn mower.
    30. Although the new corkscrews are 4 turns, you can use them for range estimation.
    31. O-ring remover for your flashlights.
    32. Pry out partially-exposed nails.
    33. Tighten the apron strings on a wrestling ring.
    34. The inside diameter of the corkscrew is 1/4". I'm sure you know what you can do with this.
    35. Open just a small hole in a coconut.
    36. Lift stuck items out of boxes.
    37. Fish the tape out of a clogged VHS tape.
    38. Remove patches from a flintlock gun.
    39. Remove the inside of a shotgun shell, making a blank. Remove the wad and powder too.
    40. If you don't want the mini screwdriver, the corkscrew can hold a ferro rod.
    41. Tap a tree for sap.
    42. Undo zip ties without breaking them.
    ✌️😉

    1. Remove pen from scale.
    2. Lift parcel hook.
    3. Drop pen into the now vacant parcel hook recess; the pen nib will extend past the end of the scales.
    4. Lower parcel hook (gently) to clamp pen into the recess.
    5. Hold the compact as you would a pen, applying light pressure with your index finger to the tip of the parcel hook.
    6. Write much more comfortably.

    • @JonGadget
      @JonGadget  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great hack Alan. You can also ‘screw’ the pen into the corkscrew for a similar experience!

I use a Cree torch and a True Utility firelight. But i love the light you carry very versatile. How long does it last with everyday use? I am chauffeur nowadays so i use it every day in winter to check the vehicle. I always carry the Fieldmaster since i was twelve. On my keychain at the karabiner i carry my bus key, my firelight, a kiss of life and a tic tool. At the other end the house keys, Fieldmaster and a Coghlans whistle with compass. In my cargo pocket i carry the Cree torch.

So we do have quite something in common: I use my iphone 12 mini, that I can really recommend (can‘t compare with a pro but it never ran out of batterie in my daily activities). I love the classical pods too but also enjoy the pros, that fit me much better with a smaller foam top I bought on amazon and really help me with my noise sensitivity when needed. And I use the same cases for them that you use, they are brilliant. My Victorynox is a small one (maybe as a woman I don‘t feel I need so many tools). My Portemonnaie is of the same size as yours but by Marco Polo and I own it already about 6 years without any problems (it’s made of leather though). Keys are always difficult. I just wear a minimum with me (in my pant’s pocket) and keep my working keys extra in my backpack as you do. If I need my car keys I combine them with my housekeys via a small carabiner. So far I never needed an extra light, there‘s the main difference I think. And I really prefer to always wear a little backpack with me, where I have my waterbottle, a snack, a lightweight jacket and an umbrella. It helps me also to do the little groceries on my way home. That’s it so far.

I have the Garmin Instinct Solar too. Love it, I had the original non solar when it came out. Beautifully legible display and worry free battery life.
I don’t wear it all the time though as it’s a little ‘tactical’ My other smart watch is a Withings Scanwatch. It’s a very elegant hybrid watch that passes off as a tradition timepiece. It misses the GPS (but it will use the phones GPS) but it adds an ECG function. The larger version with the black dial is also supremely legible when looking at the time. Smartphone app is good too. And using full functionality it’ll last 5 days before charging. Dial back the smart functionality with up to 30 days battery life. Worth looking at as an EDC alternative.

Jon I am trying to catch up watching your videos since I subscribed. Came upon this one and see that we have much in common with our EDC. I also prefer the older Air Pods. The fit better and offer some peripheral sound when out and about. I have opted for the iPhone 12 Mini and can attest to all day, plus battery life under normal usage. I am not a gamer so calls, texts and music streaming seems to be the ticket for ample battery life. One difference is the torch. I use a single AAA battery headlamp. Lightweight, bright enough and keeps both hands free. I have long ago rid myself from the Land Rover. Repairs and parts here in the U.S. are crazy. Thanks for the info and as usual...stay well.

The Garmin watch is nice.. So can this watch run purely on solar if you needed? I went for this Casio SGW-500H-2BVER as I like analogue watches and I like the practical features as well ...the analogue and digital compas is a feature I like the most, as well digital features like alarms and stopwatch. This watch covers the lot .. with 2 years battery life, it's going to be there for me if ever I'm stuck in the wilderness....(I got lost in woods in Greece, no charge left on phone.. and the compas was a massive help) . £60.00 from Argos and it looks the part.

Great kit! We carry almost the same stuff. I am toting the iPhone 12 Pro Max, a Bellroy All-Conditions zip wallet, G-Shock wristwatch (retro style solar), Streamlight microstream, and an Alox Minichamp on my keys. I use a TEC accessories pocket dangler on the Compact oriented such that the majority of the knife footprint is toward the outward edge of my right pocket. Keeps my large meat hooks from jamming up on the knife when I go for my wallet. Phone charger, mask, gel, earbuds in a separate pack. You’re making me want to start a new channel. Haha. I deleted mine ages ago when I had 8K subs. Burned out, but now I’m thinking of a reboot. I have discovered many MacGyver-esque uses for the hook that I’m eager to share. @@JonGadget You can call me whatever you want- as long as it’s not “late for dinner”! Hehe. I think the tipping point for me was the culmination of when my career peaked, my child grew older, and I also felt that I was spending too much money on new gear to review. I never took on any offers to review products from companies. I was fiercely independent. It somewhat limited me I suppose. I’d like to do another channel that was more of a tips and tricks variety show as opposed to a keepin’ up with the Jones’ /new gear weekly sort of affair. I also was at the point where my editing skills had outpaced my equipment and I was reluctant to spend the money on a better camera, mic, and Mac. At any rate, I landed on your channel recently and I like what I see. 👍 By the by, I maintain a somewhat regular appearance on Instagram ( @knife_tex , if you’re keen).
