sorry to say but a great voice can sing anything, leave stylistics to those who don't have extraordinary voice, this piece is meant to showcase the soprano voice, this is not melodie, it is opera, some extra heft and fireworks are ok in this setting, I think Ms. Freni does a wonderful job with this aria, her voice may be a bit big for the role but regardless, she is truly a gem and sings whatever she does with absolute beatuy
Too big for the role? Did you hear the Poison aria which is sometimes skipped? By the way her Romeo was Corelli. Such a giant voice needs at least a full lyric soprano as Juliette.
Je n'aime pas trop Freni dans cet air. C'est bien chanté mais sa voix me plaît moins que d'habitude. Je la préfère largement dans le répertoire italien. Elle a en plus un français exotique.

Thank you for this posting from the live performance. The EMI studio recording of 1969 is one of the best EMI did with Corelli whom they did not know how to produce effectively in most cases. Freni is a brilliant Juliette for him.
Chanter sans comprendre ce que l'on chante ça n'est pas vraiment chanter il vaut mieux s'abstenir si on persiste c'est inadmissible surtout quand on pratique une langue maternelle proche du français. En faisant un petit effort elle aurait pu sans doute produire une belle performance !

Scherza... La Sutherland era un unico farfuglio e la Verrett almeno aveva un accento accettabile... Chi non è madrelingua non può cantare in modo perfetto ma anche noi italiani che abbiamo il 90% delle opere liriche ci accontentiamo che almeno cantino bene...
@@Yves_Ka infatti più che di dizione ho parlato di farfuglio..non solo le agilità di potenza lo dimostrano, e sarebbe tollerabile, na soesso ancbe il canto parlato o spianato risulta accidentato... Non voglio fare la punta alla matita ma ascoltate le agilità di una Tetrazzini o della Callas, perfino di molte altre meno dotate ma che si sono impegnate meglio, o stelle come la Horne virtuosa rossiniana ma di impeccabile dizione...

The idea however was to sing the Czardas in Hungarian (and not English) So she spent months learning the aria in Hungarian. A critic subsequently wrote "For all that we could understand of Mdme. Sutherland's (English) diction, she may have even been singing in Hungarian - no one would be able to tell the difference"

Vede, la lingua italiana ha delke caratteristiche uniche e peculiari, ogni lettera alfabeti a va pronunciata chiara e scandita, tutto si pronuncia esattamente come è scritto, contrariamente a quasi tutti gli altri idiomi quindi anche se madame è una perfetta magiara linguisticamente, in italiano è spesso penosa...
