That's the difference between the 80s generation and today's. We didn't need no tutorial to figure the game play out, and the games were so well designed to be intuitive enough.. That said, the game looks good, especially the 2.5D graphics and animations..
Even Shattered Soldier which came out in 2002 has no tutorial stuff whatsoever and it had way more complex mechanics and difficulty than what I'm seeing here. Bizarre how they think gamers need to be talked through everything.

Although I didn't make it past the second level on the arcade platform. When I got contra for Christmas I open the box an went straight to it. Of course died many times. I got good at it an beat it with the 3 rest lives an gain more lives throughout the game by myself. Non of friends couldn't keep up an held me up stealing my lives lol made it hard for me to beat it. So I did it alone an beat it. By that time I heard rumors about a 30 lives code. I never used it unless I had friends who played with me. Even then they was stealing my lives . I just happen to go through the booklet to see if the 30 lives code was in there when I heard about it. Read through the whole booklet. Tells you everything how to shoot in different direction, the jump and fire button. Gave the background story on Bill and Lance that heck even at that time i had no idea since I didn't get that from the arcade game. Tells you each of the eight levels you will play through an a boss will be waiting at the end of it. Also all the weapon types and their uses. Lol I had already knew the entire game before even reading that outside of the story behind the game and the 30 lives. That's the only reason I remember it cause I read the instructions manual lol
Man all the people crying need to stop it.. the game feels solid, I feel the challenge amd intensity of every section of the screen u go to. Getting antsy trying to avoid all the attacks comeing.. When I heard that death sound a few times I was hooked.. this is a reimagined contra true amd true, all the newbies stop crying please
It just looks alright. Shattered Soldier and even Hardcorps Uprising had a better aesthetic though. This looks like that mobile Contra game at a glance. The wall boss was pretty cool here though.

In my "PERSONAL OPION" Graphics are okay ( they could have done better ) the sound and music directors needed to do better work. For being an action Gun N Run the BGM sounds and feels too slow for my taste. Plus there was too much voice narrations , The 2nd boos design looks good though.
Was expecting more dialogue from HQ when the boss showed up. They're worried about gravity weapons but then a huge bio weapon appears and no one bats an eye.
My cousin and I beat this when we were around 5 years old I'm playing right now and Holy cow it's so fun. Only thing I wish I could get is the sound of the spread gun

I loved me some Contra back in the day! This looks decent for an upgraded retro fit. I would probably get this if it's like $40 or so purely for the nostalgia of it. Not so sure if I'd pay $70 for it though as it doesn't look like a triple AAA game to me that should command that price. At the right price it looks fun and worth owning though.
Contra with health bar? Back in our days we didn't have that, but we still welcome that, easier Contra will make this game more fun when playing with family.
Platform games work more in 2D pixel art, when 3D goes to a 2D platform format it gives a feeling that they shouldn't be in that format, these games are not bad but it looks like an empty lifeless canary while 2D gets a feeling of rich scenery
In the original story, red falcon and other alien force are just want to retrieve moirai relic back to jupiter. With this remake probably change the story

How to top Contra 4? Hire the same studio to make a successor by remaking the first game. Now THAT tops it! Also it's funny if you think, but this is the third remake. First was Contra 4 Second was Contra Evolution (and also Revolution)
For some reason I can't get the game to play or record at 60FPS on PS5. Do I have to use any special settings? First time I'm having this issue. Normally works fine with all other games.
I think it's not bad, alright but needs more polish. It's nice know arcade mode will remove the dialoug and may allow for the classic way of playing, get hit= -1 life. I look forward to the final version.
WAY too much chit-chat for Contra, and I am not digging the rather plastic, cheap action figure look of everything. Not to mention, every Contra since 4 onward seems content to re-use assets from and re-do 1 through 3, rather than advance things in a fresh direction like Hard Corps and Shattered Soldier.
I'm playing shattered soldier on my oled steam deck rite now and that game is awesome its one of the best contra games. I was looking forward to this game but now after playing Shattered I don't no if this game is going to do anything for me... this stage looks just like the first level I think in contra 4 for the ds.
@GMoney-yj7yg Arcade mode is there if people just want to play the levels without the story, director even said the enemies and bosses in arcade have more patterns and attacks. I think they're doing a good job catering to people who just want the game and those new to contra.

Is it just me or is this contra game trying to be Metal Gear? The look of the communication screen during the briefing, the sound when a different person pops up to talk, hell even the tone and cadence of conversations all sound like metal gear and any one who has played knows what I mean.
2024 and Konami still has no fucking clue how to make a proper Contra game. Why in the holy name of fuck would you need a face at the top of the screen telling you how to play fucking Contra? It's two buttons, one for shooting and another one for jumping, holy shit.
You would think battle hardened warriors would have some war souvenirs like scars, old war injuries, at least in the intro. I keep getting thinking this looks like an android game commercial.
Why not handrawn graphics. This 2.5D looks just ... not as good as handrawn. The boulders coming out of the water are just so silly looking...please remove this shit. Also the destroyed wiggling arms from the monster are just silly and like f...g cartoony looking. Like the lengthy level. Probotector⭐⭐⭐... ...looks good, hope is gonna turn out very good. Game looks OK. Ill buy it. Still I cant help but continue to be disappointed. This game does not get the effort it deserves. Contra 4 is the best, even shattered soldier had some fantastic Ideas and felt closer to home. Id like to see Contra return with todays graphics with the original style art. Dialog during mid gameplay sucks ass. Its annoying.

You literally had manuals
For the most part we didn't. But an instruction booklet came with it. That you had to read.

Yeah Konami/Wayforward went too safe by reboot the series instead. We need more batshit crazy aesthetic ala Uprising/Shattered Soldier/Neo.

Hard Corps on Genesis had a 3 hit health bar had one, and Uprising too... I think. Because of the high difficulty.
You can choose health bar ou 1 hit kill.

What you are seeing is the story mode, the game will also have an arcade mode where you can play without cuts

Arcade mode cuts all the chatter and tutorial, pair it with hard mode and you get a decent Contra experience
