      gods remember helping trying to get medicine into ouer housecat... deeply loving sweet heart ,even when being held and gently 'forced' to eat a tablet she dident claw...she dident hiss , she dident spit or bite...but dam are they to smart for ther own good sometimes XD.
      ....for once you leet her go she walked 10 steps..and spat the pill out ,she simply hade been holding it in her mouth...or try stick tablets in wet food ?...she ate it all , and somehow ALWAYS found and left the tablet alone licked clean but not eaten on the plate ,same with meds that where 'dust' the click 'infected' with it she left... only way that worked was to stick it into 'treats' aka meat or something chunky for her... and yet she still curled up with you and naped on your chest or 'washed' and nuzzled you if you felt down or such afterwards ,no hard feelings...
      gods i miss her...... the day the vet basicly said ''sorry but...even with more medicines ,to help with all her age problems she almost become a vegetable for you ,we cant say what you should do ..but..'' ....we hade to leet her go to sleep ,but dam.... it realy showed you how many small ways she brightened ouer lives while being with uss ...so many heart strings that started to bleed despite how we allready been suspecting it would be ther... last ... vet visit.
      gota treasure the time one have with the little loving killers of molten night threads!!!

      @carrie - I think some animals (in this case, cats) kinda HAVE to take these meds, if they're going to be healthy, active, & content in their daily existences... not sure I'd deliberately skip their meds, just because they might "spit it up" or vomit. Lol. One could have a bacterial infection and need antibiotics. Another animal could have arthritis or something requiring treatment. Plus they all get multivitamins and minerals probably. So, yeah, probably best to force it down as enjoyable as possible! Animals are a lot more vulnerable to illnesses and infections than humans are, usually, so they've gotta find a way.

      @MissLilyputt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@stickshiftstarship Usually, pills for domesticated cats are smaller than those for tigers, lions or other large cats. The dosage for large cats is much larger and thus need bigger pills. It isn’t the size of the pill that’s a problem. It’s that they don’t want to take it regardless if it’s in pill form, powdered form or even liquid form. Even hiding them in pill pockets, pieces of cheese, or mixing them in wet food doesn’t make them want to eat their meds.

    • @yaho5785
      @yaho5785 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Counterbalance_ I think it might be the smell? (idk) I think someone I know used to have to hide the pill with cheese, as apparently that'd cover up the smell of the pill. Though you probably shouldn't feed cats cheese as apparently most cats are lactose intolerant.

    Do you spay / neuter the cats?
    And what do you do when mating season?.

    • @bigcatrescue
      @bigcatrescue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If medically necessary yes they are spayed/neutered. If they live with a mate, they are spayed and neutered as we do not believe in breeding for life in a cage. Since big cats are solitary by nature most all the cats live alone at the sanctuary and have no opportunity to mate.

    How do you know if they really are eating their meds? Do you check when they are finished?
    I have 2 cats and a dog. Meds for the cats i force feed (but i dont think that is a good idea with a tiger hihi) and after finding out my dog would just eat arround the meds i force feed him too. Are the big cats so focussed on their food that they dont notice?
    And why do some of the cats get a chick with their meds in it? I always tought the cat species dont eat bones like wolf (dog) species do. Is this true?
    I love your channel and the videos. And thanks for this one!

    • @bigcatrescue
      @bigcatrescue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes we check to be sure they have taken them. It sometimes takes more than one try to get the med in the cat. They are very smart and sometimes spit the pill out or eat around it. The reason some get chicks is they will take it better that way. Big cats in the wild eat whole prey so yes they do eat bones. Raw meat with bones. Not cooked. Cooked meat makes the bones soft and splintery and could cause intestinal issues.
