DIY Box Finger Joint Router Jig

I built a finger joint router jig from scrap wood I had laying around
the shop and the router I used was a vintage commercial black and decker That I found In the trash total cost of this project was $0
Clamps used - Dewalt
Screw gun - Worx Ai
Table saw - Dewalt DWE7480
Router - Vintage Commercial Black & Decker
Miter saw - ADMIRAL 12 In. Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw - Harbor Freight
Drill Press - Unknown
Jig Saw - Hyper Tough - Walmart
Glue - Gorilla wood glue

Just finished trying to put something like together this weekend. I too am using a 2 flute straight cut router bit and I see that yours also seems to rip the top layer off the plywood you are fingering. Another channel used a 1/4" spiral bit - do you think a spiral bit would make a nicer job?

The spiral bit may do a better job but I can't say for sure since I have never tride a spiral bit

Nice and cheap way to do finger joints! But why were the ends of the fingers protruding? Router bit lifted a little too high??

Yes the bit was lifted a little to high but better to be protruding then to be under

How could you fix it so that you end up with equal fingers and not the smaller finger at the end?

That would depend on the width of your board these are 1/4 inch fingers so your board could be for example 6-1/4 inch wide

@@jlistdiy When you start the second board, turn the first board round and use it as an offset spacer for the first notch in the second board. Then the two boards will align properly.
