Chery presently sells its Tiggo, Omoda and Jaecoo range of SUV's in South Africa and Australia. Jetour will follow by year-end. The Omoda 9, sold in the Middle East and Turkey as the Exeed, another Chery subsidiary, will reach S.A. in September. Until then, you’re just like a magpie looking at shiny things.
It's interesting to see something different but with not so great mpg, quite a high group of insurance at 34-35 and a relatively small boot to the size of the car I would say no especially when a qashqai or equivalent would have better boot space, even a Dacia duster has better boot space and you get more for less again.
Took one for a test drive. Generally quite good but with 2 big problems. Mpg is terrible, guessing the Chery engine is old tech. Satnav, doesn't have one! Honestly, dealer said it has Apple Play & Android Auto. All very well if it connects without issues - my Huawei did not - ironically. Otherwise a nice car.
went past a amoda supplier today there were several of them out front gleaming in the sunlight ,looked okay in pre vids and photos but in the flesh the grill is far too large for small suv plus not a fan of the front low light cluster . sMALL SUV shooting out up to 169 grams probably low 30s on mpg . Might flop before they even sell their first batch . Insurers have pinned a 32 catagory on base model , Has some goodies that more expensive cars have and a 7 yr warantee if the dealers last and all for 24 grand in base model, so i can see a low deposit along with a 3 yr lease helping to persuade a few uk buyers .

I looked at one, thought it looked rough inside not sure why maybe because its chinese . Looked a budget brand rather than premium but I suppose thats reflected in the price. Hate the silly grill
Looks a really impressive car especially like the interior. Would prefer it to be in a mild hybrid and living in Suffolk would I have to take it to Southend for servicing etc or can any garage do it. I wonder??
The interior was lovely. I agree I would have preferred a mild hybrid too. Yes I would need to check but I believe it would need to go to the supplying dealer, there is quite a few popping up though.
Hate your voice, but wanted to know about this car. So apart from looking like a Range Rover product, the Achilles heel may just be reliability with all that electric.
the negative comments of this car solely because its chinese isn’t surprising.. yes, chinese cars in 2010s were terrible but they're actually pretty good now.
Its more to it than that. Most of these Chinese companies are directly linked to the Chinese government - see how ethical they are to Uyghur people in their detention camps and look up 'Yulin Dog Festival', and see why a lot of people wouldn't want to fund the regime there.
@@smilepermile8165 first off, do any of us have actual proof of government ties ? second, the uyghur camp situation was even debunked by un officials who went to xinjiang. thirdly, chinese cars now r good enough to be sold here in europe & elsewhere.

Not for me. Would rather buy from a Japanese/Korean/Euro brand. It looks good inside and out, I'll give you that. But there's a lot more to a good car than looks and a value price tag! The Chinese hardly have a good track record when it comes to quality - not just with vehicles. A bit of research will tell you all you need to know in that respect. I think the Chinese have a lot to prove going forward.
A bit of research will lead you to see the intensive qc at Chery group for the new gen cars. ANCAP also does more vigorous testing for safety than the European safety tests
I agree that Chinese brands need to prove themselves long term but many tech items we use every day are manufactured in China. Their phones are now as good as US and Korean phones. They are definitely catching up in terms of car quality and the Europeans are running scared.
These cars suffer from very weak suspension components. Lots of videos showing rear suspension failure over even minor pit holes. I had a look at one myself and there is very little substance to them.
I think this is an issue with many of these Chinese cars. They *look* the part, but the quality may only be superficial, and long term reliability may not be the best.... And residual value in (say) 4 to 5 years, with 50k plus on the clock?

How much was paid to you to do this video from OMODA
If they don’t do the right plan like MG and BYD and do an ORA they WILL NOT SUVIVE IN THE UK
There is a E5 coming too, all electric
Listers Solihull have a dealership
Lovely car if only had some hybrid power it would have been more appealing
Hybrid coming beginning of next year.
Good only for landfill
Think it looks half decent. Worst case from these Chinese brands coming in is the traditional / known car makers will have to stop shafting customers on price...
Looks very Range Rover-ish at the front
I admire your imagination.
Not for me Tish, it would double my fuel bill as I have a 30 month old Hyundai Ioniq, great review as usual though
Everyone was wary of Kia, Hyundai and Dacia etc but lookat them now
That is the same chassis as Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai & the Renault….something
Comoda is all I think of when hearing that name. Nissan has Copilot, it would be unfortunate if this has CoMode. 😂
I instantly thought "rhino". And only one a mother could love :)
Hi, Tish 💙
Considering this car... but used not new....it will come down to 15k easily
Hate your voice, but wanted to know about this car. So apart from looking like a Range Rover product, the Achilles heel may just be reliability with all that electric.
Nice, thanks Brian.
the negative comments of this car solely because its chinese isn’t surprising.. yes, chinese cars in 2010s were terrible but they're actually pretty good now.
@@smilepermile8165Exactly. SAIC (behind the MG brand) are a state owed enterprise! The hostile state of China. I would never touch a Chinese vehicle for a few reasons.
@@noahsemyonov First of all, do you have actual proof that the uyghur camp situation was debunked by unofficials who went to xinjiang? Wuhu municipal government owns Chery who owns Omoda. Thirdly, they just copied the Range Rover at the front and the Nissan Ariya at the back. Tell me you're a CCP sympathiser without telling me you're a CCP sympathiser
@@jdmguy44 I agree it’s a risk to be a first time buyer. It’s better to wait and see what’s happening first. Although so far it’s positive
No Chinese car for me. How long will it last? What will it be worth in 5 years time? Buy the Qashqai.
First one I've seen
These cars suffer from very weak suspension components. Lots of videos showing rear suspension failure over even minor pit holes. I had a look at one myself and there is very little substance to them.
I think this is an issue with many of these Chinese cars. They *look* the part, but the quality may only be superficial, and long term reliability may not be the best.... And residual value in (say) 4 to 5 years, with 50k plus on the clock?
I'm in the electric version which is £35k.. it makes the Nissan Ariya - which is £55k - look cheap 🤣
