For your American audience, I think you need to explain what "taking the piss" means. I live in the inner west of Sydney. My packages were never delivered by Australia Post. I spoke to some neighbours who also never got packages delivered. So I put in a formal complaint. About two weeks later, packages started to get delivered. This is something that happens when the package is not delivered by the postie but some contracted delivery service.
The the contractors do is they leave a note in your letterbox or you get a text saying package was undeliverable ( for whatever reason) and it’s at the post office to be picked up most contractors just drop off all the parcels from your area at the post office, because they still get paid to do the delivery and only have to drop them all off in one location and they’ve completed their run! Such a scam !
I work in the Post Office, just complain if their not delivering. Unless there is a specific reason, they should always attempt to deliver first before leaving a card.
Actually, "fair dinkum" means "real" or "genuine". In a question it means, "really"? In the context you had, it means a very pained "really??" I absolutely love a fresh finger bun. The actual roll is very sweet, much sweeter than bread. I cut them legthways across the middle, then turn the frosting into the middle like a frosting sandwich and eat them with sliced strawberries.

I wouldn't like to have a finger bun like that either. Cut it in half longways and put real butter on it and then they are nice (as long as the finger bun is fresh). I once tried Emu pie (a pub at Hahndorf Sth Australia sells it along with a crocodile meal) and it was too gamey for my taste buds too.

The Aus post situation has increased after COVID. I think there's new posties who hate ringing doorbells coz I work from home so there's no way no-one is home. That said, this only happens to me every 1 in 5 packages
Yes, Australia Post contractors do that shite all the time. It’s infuriating. They're one of the "old style " biscuits that have made it to now. They brought out a chocolate biscuit , orange centre which was really good but the plain orange ones are pretty good too.
About those packages, come to Canada. We don't have mail delivered to the house at all we have a community mail box about 3 kilometers up the road from our house and get cards delivered there notifying us that we need to go to an agency to pick up any packages. Anyway keep up the good work, I'm Australian living in Canada however, I'll be living in Cairns within the next few months. And you need to try Brumby's at Edge Hill for their meat pies (I was there a couple of weeks back) great pies!

I work for Post and am a postie in Townsville, I personally don’t go into yards if there’s a fence around due to dogs, too many dog bites, I’ve been bitten 6 times now. Re Aus post: drives me crazy too. Is because AusPost uses contractors so they don’t have to provide decent employment wages and benefits. No incentive for contractors to do the right thing.
Car snorkel's are mainly for dust control on dirt roads a 2nd use is water crossing so 99% dust control & 1% water crossings. Most SUV's air intakes is behind the front bumper.

I’m in Melbourne and mostly home . The postman usually rings my gate bell/intercom and I answer “I’m coming “ Sometimes he doesn’t and just leaves the package in the garden over the fence. Occasionally he leaves a card to collect later.
Occasionally a postman will walk up my stairs and buzz, and seems grateful I'm home, but generally they look up and leave! I don't even get cards any more, I usually check tracking after 4 to find out where the package is and it's "waiting for collection at ... Post Office"!

Doing a Swell Job Greg, im like a turncoat for either Maccas or the Coronel at the food court depends on the mood, then I just end up at the thai take away eating my bowl of shallot and ginger beef. keep up the great videos mate I like the the opposite of the Orange slice the Lemon Crisp and the Tim Tams cannot be eaten without doing a Slam in milk here and there. I haven't tried the Murray River Caramel yet I put that on my taste test.
Australia Post leaving cards gets annoying. I downloaded the app and setup a parcel locker too (free). Now they seem to leave certain low value parcels in a safe place more. The app will ask you sometimes too if you want it just delivered to the post office or left in a safe place.
I actually love my Aust Post drivers. They always deliver my packages to my front door unless the sender specifically states that they cannot leave unattended. I once had a 15kg bag of dog food left at my front door, and the driver returned the next day to make sure that I managed to get the parcel inside. It all depends what type of person you have delivering your post, an arse or a gem. I always let them know if they've done wrong by me.

Either the postman cannot get access or the parcel has a "do not leave if nobody's home" label on it. The solution is, if you ordered something, is to tick the "authority to leave" box...this allows the postie to leave the parcel in a safe place if nobody answers the door...but at your own risk. The postie will also leave the parcel if say family from home send it and they give the authority to leave when they post it. Anything that needs to be signed cannot be left at the address unless someone's home, otherwise it will go to the nearest post office.
"Chasing" is usually heard on the streets down here in Victoria in relation to drugs. You could be walking on a busy street, and someone will walk beside you and ask you if you're chasing (looking for drugs). Fair Dinkum literally means it's the truth. Depending on context, it could be said in a range from surprise to earnest to disgust.

Australia post won’t leave a package because of the classification the sender has given to the parcel. If you are at home they will give it to you and get you to sign for it. If you want them to leave it at your door all you have to do is go to the PO and tell them that’s what you want.

Australia Post have been doing this since covid. At my place they don’t even walk by and leave a card. They just send a text saying I wasn’t at home, which consenting I’m disabled and barely leave my place is always a lie. The kicker is the local branch is 30 metres from my front door. I’ve put in multiple complaints. Last time I dragged myself down and got there within five minutes of receiving the text. The driver was still there dropping the parcel off so I could call him a liar to his face.
Funny that you find a finger bun tastes like a hot dog bun with icing. The dough used in traditional finger buns normally has spices like cinnamon as well as fruit like sultanas or raisins (I note you bought "fruitless" finger buns on the label) and tastes nothing like the plain bread used for hot dog rolls. Sorry about the folk accosting you over guns. I think a lot of this is born out of the news we get on US school shootings which we find quite insane (to be fair all the Americans I've met do too). So people here scratch their heads and ask "why?"
The Australia Post thing depends on the person delivering and how accessible the property looks. My local Aus Post delivery driver is awesome. You could just have a lazy delivery person.

Australia Post insider comment: If you live in an area classed as 'rural' you get thrown in the 'roadside only delivery' basket. This is theoretically applied to areas with lots of small acreage properties and some farms with gates and difficult access. This means that, unlike areas classed as 'metro', they do not have to go to your door for direct delivery, even if you're living in a somewhat suburban/metro setting that still falls within that larger 'rural' area definition. Adding to that, most companies require 'signature on delivery' here, so even if you have a nice postie that goes the extra steps to knock on your door, they are legally bound to not leave it there and take it back to the local CPO/LPO for safekeeping. It's all an effort to avoid the 'porch pirate' thieving trend that is a huge problem in the US.
The ones with pink icing sometimes are incorrectly called Boston buns. But London buns with white icing and Boston buns with pink icing (no coconut) are square shaped.

They've reduced letter deliveries to 3 times a week, while focusing on their profitable daily parcel delivery service. You'd think, then, that at least their couriers would do a good job, but they do the bare minimum, if that. Private couriers are often better because they don't get paid unless they deliver right to your door & get a signature. A lot of Aust Post couriers see a block of apartments & don't even buzz the intercom to see if the recipient is home. With a PO box, your parcel sits safely at the local post office until you pick it up.

Couriers are like what you are saying about the Aust Post: If you're not home, or they contact you because of rotten mobile phone coverage, they send the goods back to the depot. So it sounds like the rare occasion when the bush gets a better deal than the city.

Finger bun should be cut in half long ways and butter or margarine applied liberally. Also get a parcel locker, u get an email and text with a code and you can collect anytime within a 48 hour period
Australia Post? Do you live in an area that has Postal Delivery? My area doesn't have it, so I have to go to the post office for all mail, and since we don't have numbers it's better. I am happy for my stuff to be safe at the post office. However, when I was house-sitting at my friend's place it had a letterbox. I had no problems. They always knock or leave it in a safe place. The only time they won't is if you must sign for it eg Registered Mail. If they ask to leave it in a safe place on orders, I put on the delivery not leave behind something in her yard.

I'm pretty sure we say 'ay' instead of 'hey'. I understand Canadians and New Zealanders also use 'ay' a lot as well! Maybe it's a bit different in QLD (hey) as compared to NSW and VIC? I recommend you try Arnott’s Mint Slice biscuits as they trump Tim Tams in my opinion or a packet of Arnott’s Assorted Creams so you can try a few different types at once and can compare. I understand how guns became a part of the American culture as the British started to confiscate arms even from officials in the colony as they were worried about their control and this was one of the triggers for the war for independence. To safeguard the freedom of the state the 2nd amendment came about so that an armed militia could form to defend the hard won independence should it ever come under threat by the Brits or anyone else trying to tell American's what to do in their own country. Aussies tend to 'take the piss' or 'wind people up' to help people come to their senses but it is well intentioned at heart! We don't like to see our colonial cousin's blowing each other’s heads off particularly when the threat from the British has well and truly passed! In saying that though, I doubt any country wouldn’t be thinking twice about trying to invade America as it'd not just be the armed forces they'd need to contend with!.... With respect though, the Second Amendment could use a little amending for the benefit of 'today's' American society. I like guns, have a license and wouldn't like anyone taking them from me but at the end of the day, with some moderation applied, I do appreciate the feeling of being relatively safe from being shot here and would wish the same for all American's too.
My guess is when you don't get parcels you don't have a deep letterbox and you many not have a good hiding area around your place. It is dependent I think on your specific address and often I get things left at my front door but hidden behind pot plants. I also keep a green bin close to the driveway near the front verandah and if a parcel is big, couriers and Australia Post tend to put it there. I never used to keep a bin there and I am open to the street and close to a freeway so if a parcel is left out in the open close to the front door, it can be seen from a distance. In those circumstances I would expect Australia Post not to leave it. Couriers tend to find bushes and then they let you know it is delivered straight away so if you are at home and have email, you tend to know straight away, even if you didn't hear the door. I don't think Australia Post would leave it around corners in bushes because they don't notify you that a parcel is delivered.
Posties have become very lazy in recent years. Or more accurately, parcel delivery guys. If it doesn't fit in the letterbox they drop the "I can't be buggered walking to the front door" card, which pisses the local post offices off heaps because they have to store the parcels.
Figured posties are obligated to leave your package in a safe place. Presume your address is either easily accessible for theft or the postman can’t easily access your front porch. If you ask me collecting it at the post office is a better option. Perhaps get a locker - it’s free and you can collect in your own time.
I worked with a Yank in Adelaide many years ago. Very funny bloke who became a cricket fanatic and became pretty good at the game. We had a works game which was his first. Just before it started he yelled out "Play Baal". Everyone rolled on the ground laughing. On the subject of guns, I completely get every argument for and against. I'd hate to live somewhere where I routinely needed one for protection but if I lived in the USA (certainly in some places there) I wouldn't think twice about having one. It's a lazy practice by some postal delivery contractors of not taking the time to knock and see if anybody is home, but just dropping a card in your letterbox and continuing on to the next address to do the same thing. They're delivering cards, not parcels. Delivery to a post office =/= delivery to a home.

When I lived in OZ I would get asked about all the guns and violence. I would answer that I only see it on TV just like you. The also told me that they didn't like that all of their basketball players were from the USA. I told him that in the USA we had the same thing because all of our hockey players were Canadian.

I love the lemon ones, but if they have been sitting for a while they do get a bit dry, otherwise when they are soft they are my go to.

I work for Post and am a postie in Townsville, I personally don’t go into yards if there’s a fence around due to dogs, too many dog bites, I’ve been bitten 6 times now. Has the postie or contractor either beeped the horn or yelled out?? Anyways I like your feedback, see ya!!

Re Aus post: drives me crazy too. Is because AusPost uses contractors so they don’t have to provide decent employment wages and benefits. No incentive for contractors to do the right thing.

Greg, I agree about the package delivery, it's the same at my place. It's a pain, but at least I know it's somewhere safe, waiting for me. Also, fair dinkum is an exclamation, usually for a good thing, but also for when you're confirming the truth, like "are you fair dinkum (about that)?" Good vid, nice job.
I haven’t been to Cairns in a while but I remember having a great croc schnitzel at the Cock and Bull hotel. I recommend the mushroom sauce.
Croc and Emu when cooked properly are very nice. Also, Kangaroo is quite nice as well.
Also Kangaroo is the best red meat you can buy due to the less fat content

I’m in Melbourne and mostly home . The postman usually rings my gate bell/intercom and I answer “I’m coming “ Sometimes he doesn’t and just leaves the package in the garden over the fence. Occasionally he leaves a card to collect later.
Occasionally a postman will walk up my stairs and buzz, and seems grateful I'm home, but generally they look up and leave! I don't even get cards any more, I usually check tracking after 4 to find out where the package is and it's "waiting for collection at ... Post Office"!

Doing a Swell Job Greg, im like a turncoat for either Maccas or the Coronel at the food court depends on the mood, then I just end up at the thai take away eating my bowl of shallot and ginger beef. keep up the great videos mate I like the the opposite of the Orange slice the Lemon Crisp and the Tim Tams cannot be eaten without doing a Slam in milk here and there. I haven't tried the Murray River Caramel yet I put that on my taste test.

Australia Post leaving cards gets annoying. I downloaded the app and setup a parcel locker too (free). Now they seem to leave certain low value parcels in a safe place more. The app will ask you sometimes too if you want it just delivered to the post office or left in a safe place.

I have had many packages delivered by Aus Post I don't mind collecting things myself either I know it won't get pinched.
Even the private delivery companies will sometimes leave a card to collect the package at their nearest agent, usually a Post Office or a newsagent.

I actually love my Aust Post drivers. They always deliver my packages to my front door unless the sender specifically states that they cannot leave unattended. I once had a 15kg bag of dog food left at my front door, and the driver returned the next day to make sure that I managed to get the parcel inside.
It all depends what type of person you have delivering your post, an arse or a gem.
I always let them know if they've done wrong by me.

Either the postman cannot get access or the parcel has a "do not leave if nobody's home" label on it.
The solution is, if you ordered something, is to tick the "authority to leave" box...this allows the postie to leave the parcel in a safe place if nobody answers the door...but at your own risk.
The postie will also leave the parcel if say family from home send it and they give the authority to leave when they post it.
Anything that needs to be signed cannot be left at the address unless someone's home, otherwise it will go to the nearest post office.
"Chasing" is usually heard on the streets down here in Victoria in relation to drugs. You could be walking on a busy street, and someone will walk beside you and ask you if you're chasing (looking for drugs).

No, Aussie post silently putting a "You were not home" note in your letterbox and then scarpering leaving you to pick up your package at the post office is an epidemic here. Still, at least it's safe and not likely to get stolen.
Australia post won’t leave a package because of the classification the sender has given to the parcel. If you are at home they will give it to you and get you to sign for it. If you want them to leave it at your door all you have to do is go to the PO and tell them that’s what you want.

Australia Post have been doing this since covid. At my place they don’t even walk by and leave a card. They just send a text saying I wasn’t at home, which consenting I’m disabled and barely leave my place is always a lie. The kicker is the local branch is 30 metres from my front door. I’ve put in multiple complaints. Last time I dragged myself down and got there within five minutes of receiving the text. The driver was still there dropping the parcel off so I could call him a liar to his face.
Funny that you find a finger bun tastes like a hot dog bun with icing. The dough used in traditional finger buns normally has spices like cinnamon as well as fruit like sultanas or raisins (I note you bought "fruitless" finger buns on the label) and tastes nothing like the plain bread used for hot dog rolls. Sorry about the folk accosting you over guns. I think a lot of this is born out of the news we get on US school shootings which we find quite insane (to be fair all the Americans I've met do too). So people here scratch their heads and ask "why?"

The Australia Post thing depends on the person delivering and how accessible the property looks. My local Aus Post delivery driver is awesome. You could just have a lazy delivery person.

Australia Post insider comment: If you live in an area classed as 'rural' you get thrown in the 'roadside only delivery' basket. This is theoretically applied to areas with lots of small acreage properties and some farms with gates and difficult access. This means that, unlike areas classed as 'metro', they do not have to go to your door for direct delivery, even if you're living in a somewhat suburban/metro setting that still falls within that larger 'rural' area definition. Adding to that, most companies require 'signature on delivery' here, so even if you have a nice postie that goes the extra steps to knock on your door, they are legally bound to not leave it there and take it back to the local CPO/LPO for safekeeping. It's all an effort to avoid the 'porch pirate' thieving trend that is a huge problem in the US.

The ones with pink icing sometimes are incorrectly called Boston buns. But London buns with white icing and Boston buns with pink icing (no coconut) are square shaped.

They've reduced letter deliveries to 3 times a week, while focusing on their profitable daily parcel delivery service. You'd think, then, that at least their couriers would do a good job, but they do the bare minimum, if that. Private couriers are often better because they don't get paid unless they deliver right to your door & get a signature. A lot of Aust Post couriers see a block of apartments & don't even buzz the intercom to see if the recipient is home. With a PO box, your parcel sits safely at the local post office until you pick it up.

Couriers are like what you are saying about the Aust Post: If you're not home, or they contact you because of rotten mobile phone coverage, they send the goods back to the depot. In one case for me, back to Melbourne from my home in rural Qld. Aust post on the other hand always leave a message to say they have a delivery coming and then notify you when it has arrived. So it sounds like the rare occasion when the bush gets a better deal than the city.
Not sure if yanks know or understand but being called a yank is not a derogatory term it’s just like calling a an English person a POM or a new zealander a kiwi. Finger bun should be cut in half long ways and butter or margarine applied liberally. Also get a parcel locker, u get an email and text with a code and you can collect anytime within a 48 hour period
Australia Post? Do you live in an area that has Postal Delivery? My area doesn't have it, so I have to go to the post office for all mail, and since we don't have numbers it's better. I am happy for my stuff to be safe at the post office.
However, when I was house-sitting at my friend's place it had a letterbox. I had no problems. They always knock or leave it in a safe place. The only time they won't is if you must sign for it eg Registered Mail. If they ask to leave it in a safe place on orders, I put on the delivery not leave behind something in her yard.

Finger Buns are sweet - no they are not like hot dog buns. You need to get a ham & cheese roll from the local bakeries. Woolies & Coles sell them but they are more expensive.
I'm pretty sure we say 'ay' instead of 'hey'. I understand Canadians and New Zealanders also use 'ay' a lot as well! Maybe it's a bit different in QLD (hey) as compared to NSW and VIC? I recommend you try Arnott’s Mint Slice biscuits as they trump Tim Tams in my opinion or a packet of Arnott’s Assorted Creams so you can try a few different types at once and can compare. I understand how guns became a part of the American culture as the British started to confiscate arms even from officials in the colony as they were worried about their control and this was one of the triggers for the war for independence. To safeguard the freedom of the state the 2nd amendment came about so that an armed militia could form to defend the hard won independence should it ever come under threat by the Brits or anyone else trying to tell American's what to do in their own country. Aussies tend to 'take the piss' or 'wind people up' to help people come to their senses but it is well intentioned at heart! We don't like to see our colonial cousin's blowing each other’s heads off particularly when the threat from the British has well and truly passed! In saying that though, I doubt any country wouldn’t be thinking twice about trying to invade America as it'd not just be the armed forces they'd need to contend with!.... With respect though, the Second Amendment could use a little amending for the benefit of 'today's' American society. I like guns, have a license and wouldn't like anyone taking them from me but at the end of the day, with some moderation applied, I do appreciate the feeling of being relatively safe from being shot here and would wish the same for all American's too.

My guess is when you don't get parcels you don't have a deep letterbox and you many not have a good hiding area around your place. It is dependent I think on your specific address and often I get things left at my front door but hidden behind pot plants. I also keep a green bin close to the driveway near the front verandah and if a parcel is big, couriers and Australia Post tend to put it there. I never used to keep a bin there and I am open to the street and close to a freeway so if a parcel is left out in the open close to the front door, it can be seen from a distance. In those circumstances I would expect Australia Post not to leave it. Couriers tend to find bushes and then they let you know it is delivered straight away so if you are at home and have email, you tend to know straight away, even if you didn't hear the door. I don't think Australia Post would leave it around corners in bushes because they don't notify you that a parcel is delivered.

Posties have become very lazy in recent years. Or more accurately, parcel delivery guys. If it doesn't fit in the letterbox they drop the "I can't be buggered walking to the front door" card, which pisses the local post offices off heaps because they have to store the parcels.
They drop all the parcels off at your local post office as the dump it all there and they’ve completed their run and they get paid !

Figured posties are obligated to leave your package in a safe place. Presume your address is either easily accessible for theft or the postman can’t easily access your front porch. If you ask me collecting it at the post office is a better option. Perhaps get a locker - it’s free and you can collect in your own time.

I worked with a Yank in Adelaide many years ago. Very funny bloke who became a cricket fanatic and became pretty good at the game. We had a works game which was his first. Just before it started he yelled out "Play Baal". Everyone rolled on the ground laughing. On the subject of guns, I completely get every argument for and against. I'd hate to live somewhere where I routinely needed one for protection but if I lived in the USA (certainly in some places there) I wouldn't think twice about having one. There's alot of ignorance about them though.

It's a lazy practice by some postal delivery contractors of not taking the time to knock and see if anybody is home, but just dropping a card in your letterbox and continuing on to the next address to do the same thing. They're delivering cards, not parcels. Delivery to a post office =/= delivery to a home.

When I lived in OZ I would get asked about all the guns and violence. I would answer that I only see it on TV just like you. The also told me that they didn't like that all of their basketball players were from the USA. I told him that in the USA we had the same thing because all of our hockey players were Canadian.
