you are in Cairns. Cairns is a tourist town.not much scope for employment outside hospitality.move to a bigger city like brisbane,or Sydney,or melbourne
Mate it sounds like you have already made up your mind, you don’t really give an F about any subscribers,it’s a cash thing only. and quite frankly at the end of the day we watched you because you new and interesting, stop moaning and make your decision. A wrong decision is better than no decision and you’re doing more damage to your show with this BS then just getting on with it or giving up.
Hey been really interested in what's happening over in the States as we do have a federal election this year and Peter Dutton is campaigning on the same policies Trump has there! Y DO U GUYS SAY "UNALIVED?" INSTEAD OF "KILLED?" IS THAT A THING THERE NOW???? And guys, even though U might NOT like Albanese or his way of doing things - He is still democratic - Peter Dutton is a complete moron with a shit ton of money another millionaire P.M IS SOMETHING AUS DOESN'T NEED YEAH? NO AUSTRALIA DOESN'T NEED ANOTHER MILLIONAIRE P.M We are not the states and they can EAT EACH UP WITH THEIR CAPITALISIM - This is OZ. We can do better and Albo is the way to go if this is the only 2 choices. Let's not ferget that Dutton is a EX POLICE OFFICER FROM QLD? IN THE DAY WHEN QLD COPS HAD NO RULES?????? THINK ABOUT THAT BEFORE MAKING HIM UR P.M?????
You forgot to say the US is the hardest country to move to. Also its no surprise that other Commonwealth countries are the easiest to move here since we have that common bond. Australia is a very multi cultural country with the largest Greek community outside of Greece and in Sydney the popular surname is Vietnamese so it's very multi cultural. Most Americans feel they are owed something but here in Australia we prioritize Commonwealth countries ..

Check which visas you’re eligible for, because a working holiday visa is for one year, no extensions. So look into that before you try again. Jobs are easier to get when you have some qualifications under your belt, otherwise hospitality and trades are all you’ll find. Maybe come here on a student visa, by applying to study something like Marine Biology, teaching, or mechanical engineering. Whatever appeals to you.
Yeah, also a reminder for anyone coming here is to wear sunscreen and don't do it half-arsed. You need to cover yourself in it if you are prone to getting burnt. It only takes 20 minutes or so to get pink.
Of course people from other countries in the British Commonwealth find it easier to migrate that people from non-Commonwealth countries. The Commonwealth means something.
Imagine a young bloke like you opening this up with how you can get your sleeping tablets and pain killers. Ibuprofen for sunburn?! And you're offended by someone asking about the massive elephant/leg brace in the room? One thing nobody said to you while you were down here was 'Toughen the fxxx up'! Bet the Australian taxpayer footed most of the bill for your hospital care. You seem like nice lad. Get off the medication.
Check out the climate in each State. East coast is VERY humid. Northern Territory is extremely hot and very humid in 'the wet'. Health Care is not a rip off, as in the States.
Ibprofin is in coles and woolies
Wanker
Hope you're safe, and would love to hear how you and your friends are coping with the wild weather.
white Australians are super racist. can you confirm?
What was the name of the third hostel you stayed at?? I’m moving to Cairns in March
The Village, It was an older crowd with people that more focused on work. If you looking for a younger party vibe check out bounce
As an Australian it drives me insane hearing Americans pronounce it Ostralia not astralia we pretty much drop th u in pronouncing it 😂
The minimum wage here in Australia is about 25 to 30 dollars an hour..
Its best to patronise pubs without gambling machines .more likely to get live music and sociable people
You need to go to a bigger city than Cairns for the skill set you're trying to build.
Jack daniels is cat piss so i refer to it as that. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It would be a shame to waste your talents as an engineer and limiting yourself to just one area. Cairns is a beautiful place and my wife and I love it when we travel there, but it might not have as many employment opportunities as other locations in Australia. I am not sure what engineering discipline you hold, civil, mechanical or something else but there are plenty of job websites to check out. Both WA & NT have a lot of mining opportunities for all sorts and lots of FIFO positions. Have a look at the bigger companies, BHP, Rio Tinto etc.
Greg i thoroughly enjoy following your adventures and either way, im very keen to see how you progress. You got this bro! The lord opens doors ✝️✝️✝️
Legend!
Well done on being honest and still having a goal. Most Aussies have never been to Cairns, you’ve taught me a lot about the place and I won’t be ripping on it, but it does seem quite small. Brisbane has plenty of opportunities or go further south to NSW or Victoria, heaps different to up north. Don’t feel afraid to ask any questions, your channel is something I look forward to as you’re doing something I never got to do. I feel into very secure jobs and only had to move to the next region (Wollongong to Sydney). I find a lot of Australians don’t move around a lot, which is a similar thing to the US from what I can gather. I hope this works out for you.
You're on a VISITOR visa which allows you do some work and travel. Not sure why so many backpackers think it's an easy way to get a work visa/sponsored. As you've found out it isn't. Follow tge correct channels and if you don't qualify stay at home or look at another country.
Come to Melbourne and explore, got a spare room you can stay till you decide what to do next!
You should come to Melbourne. It sucks here. Everyone is rude and the traffic is constantly at gridlock. Misery breeds company 😂
Sry mate hadn't noticed.🤷👍
😂 Cairns isn’t all of Australia bro, it’s just a big regional town. Try the big cities for job opportunities.
Going 'Troppo'.
Your honesty has helped me think about what I want to do as well. Thank You Greg. I will continue watching your videos because of your honesty.
Thanks bro, it’s definitely something I value maintaining above all else on the channel!
Mate try applying in Brisbane or another big city before you go, far North Queensland is not good for employment opportunities for anyone. The construction industry is howling for workers and we’re preparing for the olympics here. If that’s not what you want then I say keep the channel and just let it evolve to vlog what you’re doing wherever you end up. You’re a lovely person and I wish you the absolute best. And c’mon aussies, surely we can hook him up with something good?
Thank you Greg, you have explained that very well, the ultimate decision is up to you, in saying that, your Home is where your heart is. Take Care 👍 nsw
Do what you feel is right I have enjoyed what you have had to say and Vids you have shown us . Missing family is a big deal I have a daughter living in Canada she prefers life there it is a little unsettling for me but she is happy weigh up pro's and con's and do what your head says first followed by your heart I think . All the best to you .
If you do go home and decide later to come back at least you will have your past experience of being here to guide you I also reckon go on a holiday here and check the big cities out even though Bris is good I reckon Syd or Melb is a better chance for you .
Choose the industry youd like to get into and apply some lateral thinking into how your skill set would find a fit in that industry.
In saying that..with an engineering background...this is an arid country as such water will always be a priority..plenty of engineering jobs in any industry involving water.
Ty for the suggestion!
Hiya Greg thanks for your update....Cairns is probs not the area for career growth. As far as Queensland goes and your background...the major roads projects are prob your only option and none for Cairns. I would like to see your content is your career pursuit and that doesnt necessarily need a timeline restriction....could also involve interviews with other people your own age and their career goals and experiences?? Just your journey would be fine mate. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to watching the channel grow in whatever direction you decide to take it!!
Thnx pauline, I've thought of doing different interviews of people that doing well making it out here or in other countries. Think it would be a good change of pace to see some success stories with all the doom and gloom you see online these days
Greg, i understand how you feel, for a high paying mining job you will need go to Fifo fly in and out of places like Weipa, Mt Isa, Northern Territory or south of Townsville. No good doing a job that you don’t like agreed. Good luck finding the next adventure in your life.
Thnx Gus!
@ and Greg lots of planes from Cairns to these mining places so if you want to invest in a property in Cairns like a two bedroom Town house you could lease out 1 bedroom using the Qld government incentive to house a friend or family and fly in and fly out from the mining towns and still have the Cairns tropical lifestyle
To me I've been watching your videos. You haven't done due diligence on a career path here, you chose to go to tropical remote location instead of a commercial big city. And you haven't come with enough funds to support yourself. And stop using hostels and stay some where decent.
You have a point with the due diligence. I've actually been staying in a share house hahaha.
You’ve got to be where you feel right…true mate’s will always understand and respect that 🤙 “Go with what you feel is right for you” and the rest will follow Best wishes, Nigel
You need to move to a bigger city with more opportunities, Sydney or Melbourne and maybe try and apply for jobs while out of the country that will sponsor you here
Cairns is a hospitality and tourism economy mostly. If you are wanting professional work you would need to be in a much bigger capital city.
You should figure out what you need to do for a job and then come back and get that type of job
If you want to make it online, buy a set of tits and jump on onlyfans hahaha, no please don't do that!!! Good luck with whatever you decide but Cairns really isn't somewhere to prosper as a working holiday visa/tourist in construction or something unless you already know people in the industry, hence majority of Cairns, Darwin and those places are packed with working holiday visa holders, specifically in hospitality. Simple research prior to arriving really.
Thx Greg. Your honesty is refreshing of course. Suggest a bit of a tour south....Adelaide...Newcastle..Geelong...great lifestyles...even Brissie. Cairns is essentially a tourist town at the end of the backpacker route. What ever you do, its for the best hopefully. All part of lifes journey we all are on. Take care.
Even the American candy produced here under licence uses sugar cane.
There are more job opportunities in bigger cities or even further afield in the mining industry. The Federal Government has committed to meeting the housing shortage in Australia so a stint in the building industry to establish yourself might be a good short term goal. Don’t minimise what you have had to deal with since you arrived because you have had some bad luck yet still have a positive outlook. Also, I have seen other Americans showing your earlier videos so I hope you are getting more views and subscribers to this channel.
Thanks Judi, appreciate the support!
Liking because ur not ded :) ... hope you consider giving some other places in Aus a go, you've got so much talent mate, will always watch your channel either way though!
Thnx mate!
You need to get to a city mate. . . maybe Sydney or Melbourne - see more of Oz.
come to newcastle, 2 hour train ride from sydney plenty of opportunity here its a big city.
have a look through seek in newcastle see if anything interests you, we have mines just outside newcastle that heaps of people from here get jobs with and make so much money if youre interested in anyting in that area
You thought about seeing more of the country while you’re here? There’s plenty to do and see. All the best.
Hi Greg! Thanks for updating us as to what happened to you as my wife and I were wandering. It's a shame as it seems to not be panning out for you and we hope for a huge turn around in your luck! Please keep your chin up and know that you always have options and opportunities but ther're not allways in the place you want them to be! Perhaps if you widened the scope of your employment search outside of Cairns and perhaps you could convince your sister to get married in Australia (not realistic I know!) Oh well! You have a very important thing on your side though which is your youth which affirds you time to manouvre yourself into a good life position. You can also have another crack at things that didn't work out the first time with the benefit of a lot more knowledge and experience to tackle the task! You should be proud of yourself for having the courage to have a go and for your boldness in travelling across the globe and surviving out of your usual environment. All the best mate! We look forward to keeping an eye on your progress and think you're a 'good man' or as we say her, a good bloke!
Thnx mate, appreciate the support as always!
