I was writing my third cozy mystery and I was having an incredibly difficult time doing it. My mother was dying of dementia and indeed, passed one month later. A couple of weeks later I got COVID. I decided to just stop and rest, give myself time to grieve and time to heal. When I came back to my writing I wrote my mother into my novel and the tone changed dramatically. My husband said it was the best writing I had ever done.

I find it hard to write in different tones, i think. They are all quite similar. This does definitely help! I appreciate your channel so much. You word things so clearly and the examples you give are gold.

Jerry, I thoroughly enjoy your teaching approach to writing. I wish you had been a professor in my literature classes in college. It may have laid the keystone to a writing career many years ago. Thanks for the continued encouragement to those of us who enjoy the written word.

Over many years I've been through a TON of writing videos, help books, advice channels, masterclasses, you name it. The videos on this channel are gold. I subscribed after the first one I came across (which I don't even remember now because I've been binging all of them). You give such clear and effective advice that's not generic. Too much novel advice comes in the form of very vague, sort of catchall terms that seem obvious. Yours has substance and you can tell that you really enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience. Thank you SO much for this channel! Now if anyone needs me I'll be off buying several of your books...

Im not sure how to write the tone in my book because growing up I read the bible a lot. I ended up writing my story to follow that. It's almost a religious piece but the tone shifts as the changes in people in the story shift including character growth.

I'm writing a Book right now Called Gods Country its a Modern day civil war Based in the United states. I have noticed that the quality or the amount of details I am puting into the actions has gone down making it less interesting to read, are there any tips on how I can make it so that does not happen. Also how do I make good Dialouge that I fits into the storyline and the scene I would be writing.
