Thank you Jerry. I love your videos. They are very enlightening. I wrote a book about my Mom’s life. She lived a rough life in the foothills of Kentucky, during the onset of World War ll. When she was 12 she lost her Dad after he was shot by his own father in-law. My book entails many hard times dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy. I’m also writing the follow up to that book. It is about my tragedy as a three year-old. I set myself on fire and ended up on the brink of death. It is about how the love of family can get you through even the worst of times. It covers many things but most of all, growing up in a small town dealing with the third degree scars that left me feeling unworthy in life. For now I am self publishing mostly for friends and family. It has taken me far too long to get this far. But I’m determined to see it through. Maybe in time I may publish these traditionally. I "published" my "book" electronically online. It took me around 10 years to work on it and another three years to produce the final draft. I posted it for free. Around 5,000 people downloaded. Less than 10% of them expressed interest in my work, especially on any research. Currently I am editing it for a publisher who expressed interest. However, i am considering the self-publishing option. Thank you for your excellent series available to so many in need of help in this complex field of writing and publishing.
My biggest issue with trade publishing is the time-frame. It can take many years for a book to make it through the agents and into the hands of readers, especially if you don't already have an agent. If you are the 'write and forget it' type who has plenty of patience, this is a fine method. However, someone with my level of patience - it would be a nightmare. I think self-publishing is the way to go if you want to develop the skills needed to do it correctly, and have the time and desire.

But ya know I use to be a Rodeo Cowboy when I was young and I learned I had to develop an attitude, especially at big rodeos where you knew all the tuff's were going to show up, of "screw it. Hi Jerry! I must say, I very recently discovered your channel, but I'm loving the tips and the calm way you explain things. I'm dreading the day I think I'm finished with my story and have to write those query letters and synopsis and whatnots. But your tips make me feel like I can do it. My goal is to finish the manuscript this year. I started last February and have worked on it almost every day since. This video made me consider to try and start building a platform now. Something I've been stalling with despite other authors also saying that. Thank you for your videos and the mails. :)
Jerry you are the best. Thank you so much for your kindness sharing your wisdom with us. I am writing my first Manuscript and I will do my best editing using the Grammarly Editor before giving it to the professional Editor.
I have been frequenting your TH-cam channel for your wonderful lectures for some time now. Thank you for sending me the checklist! I'm sure it would be of great help!
Thanks for this. I self-published due to finances, but had reservations about doing it again. I want to be seen as a serious writer. Thanks for the advice!
I just stumbled upon your TH-cam channel. Thank you for doing these awesome informational videos. I’m working on my 2nd book and plan to do more than the usual 250 books. I am now following your blog and working through your other videos.
Very interesting video. I have written and self-published my very first fantasy book. Part 2 should be out in a few months. But, since I work full time in retail, I have not much time to focus on marketing. That is why I try to find an agent to get my book traditionally published. Sales of course for my first book have been very low but hope that with book 2 things will start to pick up. I have already a nice editor who did her best to make my book as professionally as possible and few self-publishers who have helped me to get my book out.
Everything you say is true. An author I read well, went with publisher, then released a self published book. It was a lesson learnt well. The difference between the two books were so far apart in quality.
Excellent information Jerry. The video did not touch on hardback, audio or marketing if planning to go the self publishing route. Marketing in particular for a launch is a learning curve unto itself. If you cover this in another video I would be grateful for the link. This does not in anyway detract from the information you provided however. It was extremely detailed but more than that, it was real and honest. BTW - Based on a video you produced (that I watched over a year ago) I have recently completed my first novel making sure my first sentence "started right in the middle of the action."
THANK YOU, THANK YOU Jerry B. Jenkins. I AM in the middle of completing my book entitled "The Things Your Daddy Would Have Told You ... If You Had One" by Leverett Dean Harris - 2017 copyright. Thank you for the tips. I have a lot of work to do. I have been writing for years but never tried to publish anything. Now I have a lot of books to fine tune and polish for submission. Then I have to work on the dreaded query letter. Lol

Thanks Jerry. Watching this I realise my inciting incident is not dramatic enough. The elements are there, but I have to tweak it to bring out the real inciting incident. And I will need to go through the whole novel and emphasise the main point of the story.

I grew up watching Hollywood movies, in our household Bollywood for the greenhorns was discouraged, so I am quite used to comprehending the Occidental, especially British & American speakers in their conversation. You sound much like a Voice over artist and I would be surprised to know that you haven't lent your voice to one of those Beverly Hills guys. Jerry, you sound terrific.
Imagine he just starts advertising RAID: Shadow Legends.
nailed that comment

best video ive seen on this subject. thank you. You're voice is very comforting for what that is worth as well. Happy new year.
I'm sure it would be of great help!
i don’t even wanna publish my book but your voice is so calming it helped me sleep last night 🥺🦋
7:50: the word is FOREWORD, that is equal to Prefácio in brazillian portuguese. (spend some time trying to understand the difference to forward)
Thanks for this. I self-published due to finances, but had reservations about doing it again. I want to be seen as a serious writer. Thanks for the advice!
os
Your fine tuning tips certainly brings a manuscript alive. Thanks Jerry.
I just stumbled upon your TH-cam channel. Thank you for doing these awesome informational videos. I’m working on my 2nd book and plan to do more than the usual 250 books. I am now following your blog and working through your other videos.
I absolutely love the free bonuses at the end
Jerry has great advice, and tip from a longtime listener; use 1.25 speed.
Oo, what’s it called
@@amazingtoad7244 Now both books are out of course. first one is called THE BLACK EYED WITCH and the sequel FOREBODING.
@@rowan7929 oooooo. That sounds cool

Where can I find them?
Very helpful insights on self publishing. Thank you
Jerry B. Jenkins could easily voice eBooks. Perfect pronunciation, smooth speed, invigorating inflection, a joy to hear.
Liked. Commented. Subscribed.
This video has been very helpful, I have a lot of decisions to make regarding publishing my first religious book..thanks!
Thank you for the best choice you have brought to my attention. Self-publishing is my homework
Thank you Mr Jenkins . I am encouraged to move forward.
Yours are my favorite videos. I've learned more from you than anyone else without a bunch of confusion. Thank you
"Bonus at end" Jenkins is using "pay offs" to keep us 'reading'! Just playing. As always thank you for your help.
Excellent writing and publishing tips. Thank you for having the heart of a teacher!
Everything you say is true. An author I read well, went with publisher, then released a self published book. It was a lesson learnt well. The difference between the two books were so far apart in quality.
Thanks so much - I have downloaded the Checklist, and all your TH-cam videos.
Thank you Jerry B Jenkins you wonderful encouragement and valuable insights are very much appreciated.💖
Thank you for sharing your expertise. Your speaking is really brilliant word by word understandable.
Jerry, you need to create an audio of your book. Your voice is very soothing.
Yeah, Of course dear.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU Jerry B. Jenkins. I AM in the middle of completing my book entitled "The Things Your Daddy Would Have Told You ... If You Had One" by Leverett Dean Harris - 2017 copyright.

Great as usual. One comment... Amazon, as near as I can tell, no longer supports their CreateSpace platform that you mentioned at about 17:40. I believe they now use only KDP. Thanks for the freebie at the end.
True.
your lecture has inspired me to publish my book as per your guidance
You are a treasure chest. Thank you for this detailed exposition.
Thank you so much for sharing your decades of experience and knowledge with us
Very helpful information for a new potential author.

Thank you for the tips. I have a lot of work to do. I have been writing for years but never tried to publish anything. Now I have a lot of books to fine tune and polish for submission. Then I have to work on the dreaded query letter. Lol
We NEED more Jerry Jenkins videos!
For example, When I might write a book, and I maybe an author,
I am what I read and what I’ve been experiencing over the years, and when I read
what I’ve written, I realize, in a way, that its my tribute to the great
writers….
Hello I am a very first time writer. Haven't even finished my Manuscript yet. Mr. Jerry Jenkins. Thank you for your videos. It's a little overwhelming this whole process sounds. But I plan on pushing though to the end. And advice and tips is very welcomed. Guidance is welcomed also.. Thanks in advance. It's been my dream to be an Author. I'm a single mother so I have lots to say and write about
Thanks Jerry. Watching this I realise my inciting incident is not dramatic enough. The elements are there, but I have to tweak it to bring out the real inciting incident. And I will need to go through the whole novel and emphasise the main point of the story.
Thank you for your clarification in the 2 types of publishing.I am so glad you shared so much in this video.
Wow..after listening to you go way above my head on "The Proposal", I think I will write my book to myself. 😂😂 So complicated. 😮
Thank you, Mr. Jenkins. Very helpful.
This is fantastic advice! I will be sending out my manuscript this spring!
Very illuminating thanks for sharing. The dollar numbers specifically were very clarifying on the economics of it.
Thanks
I've watched a lot of these kinds of videos. Yours are among the best. It's more than the message, it's the style as well.
Honestly the most valuable source of support I've found. You keep it real!
