The event card that we pulled that turn had "Stricken" as its second effect, which causes the invaders to skip their ravage in lands with Disease and/or Strife. I believe (and apologies if I got this rule wrong) that adding a strife with the fear card would have prevented the ravage in 8 as a result.
Well, this was something. Do you think there are some really tough matchups? Are there any plans to cover them? Asking mostly out of curiosity as a watcher because I'm just a beginner myself and I'm not going to be solving any high-difficulty games any time soon.
There are definitely some really tough matchups! I think the one I've struggled the most with (and thus haven't posted) is Wildfire vs England 6. No rush to get to level 6, enjoy your games wherever you find it fun! I'm planning to do some lower level games in the near future, so hopefully those are interesting too!
I think Ocean combos well with both River and Lightning, albeit for different reasons. With River, Ocean can get an absurd amount of energy thanks to River feeding them invaders and playing Boon of Vigor. River, in turn, gets to have a dumping ground for their control powers, enabling easy destruction of towns and explorers. With Lightning, Ocean benefits from getting to go fast, which can be very advantageous with their slow drowning powers. Lightning gets to benefit from Tidal Boon, which frees up their card choices and can provide a bit of useful control as well.
@@kalennoreth Thanks Kalen. Your spirit island show are really helpful. Tried Ocean and shadow for many times. They are good friends. Why I ask the question is want to more quickly control the board and prevent build and expolre in advance. I think you video about Green and lightening more suits my thinking, however, Ocean is too strong and too interesting. I cannot help to play ocean whenever I can pick him. Thanks for your advice!
I think board D with its oddly shaped land 1 just makes the adjacency build too rough given the extra city that starts there. I like how the buildings cluster a bit more on board B. In the end, I think England is kind of hard regardless of which board you choose, although Ocean has a pretty good matchup thanks to lots of coastal building leading to getting the energy necessary to sling majors.
@@kalennoreth I gazed both board B and D . Board D has a long wetland adjancent to four lands and it could be advangtage when you have certain major Board B prevents adjancent build and exchange of better range of early major like Cleansing Floods. Since I just have base game, and no expansion support. I risked in board D today and get a win against England level 5 and 6. Adjancent build really hurt, in exchange major better range of Paralyzing Fright and Cleansing Floods I risked to choose board D. Level 5 Egnland in board D get a mid game Cleansing Floods in board D, but an early Paralyzing Fright. Level 6 England get Cleansing Floods as my first major against England and late Paralyzing Fright and fear gotten get a win by fear.... The thinking of getting early major is very cool and that is how to handle the the Englnad. Happy to defear England 6 after watching and studying your videos and your strategies and sweden for Ocean is my next target. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome game. Made it seem easy!
Thanks! This one definitely turned out well, although oh goodness do England games take a long time.
Dang man, you're very lucky with the minor power draws =D
I guess level 6 is a bit rng-dependent
I think with practice this matchup is very winnable even without particularly good RNG, but yeah, this particular game was absurd.
great game and explanations
Thank you!
23:52 I must have missed why adding strife to 8 would prevent it from ravaging?

@@kalennoreth Oh, you're right! Well played overall, Oceans is a blast.

Hey Kalen. May I ask one question. Ocean combo well with shadow. Could ocean combo with other more aggressive spirit like ligntening and river? Thanks

Compared board B and D. Both have tricky inland. Why board B is much better for England match-up?

How do you pass on indomitable claim, inland ocean seems so fun lol.
Do you regret not tacking flow like water at the 43 minute mark?
Something tells me you're an MtG player. :p
XD I will confess to having slung some spells in my time! Mostly just an Arena player these days though.
