  • Small Rig Heavy Duty Fluid Head Tripod Review
I have been a fan of Small Rig gear for a while. I feel they usually give you solid quaintly at a very affordable price. How will the Small Rig Heavy Duty Fluid Head Tripod stack up to their other products?

Overall a solid tripod & fluid head for the money. The 75mm bowel mount really opens up using other fluid heads. I am going to use the Small Rig HD fluid head (not really Heavy Duty) mounted to my all metal Manfrotto/Bogen 300 tripod as a travel unit.

Good pointers. Ordered one myself as a budget option for a lighter setup, that needs Manfrotto mount.

I love smallRig stuff, but my motto is avoid first gen stuff no matter the brand. They'll get it right with the 2.0 for sure.

FYI: You can find the same model under different brand and $50 cheaper: Coman DF16LQ5S.

Thanks for posting this review. I'm an amateur photographer, I do wildlife photography, and I have done some beauty pageant stuff in the past. I just shoot picture and video with my DSLR, however the bigger zoom lenses were just too much for them flimsy little stands you get it Walmart. They just wouldn't hold the weight of the Tamron 150 to 600 mm zoom lens. This tripod will probably be overkill for that, but no matter I just wanted the fluid head in case I wanted to shoot smooth video, I think I'll be able to achieve that with this. And because it has a bowl mount, at some point I'll probably end up getting a gimbal for it. If I can find one that fits the mount. Hope you had a Merry Christmas! Thanks again.

Great content I great advice. Would be possible to see some test footage how smooth is the pan and a tilt axis on this tripod. Thanks

Thanks for that. Prefer it without the lights frankly. I find those bg lights so contrived.

You can't adjust the tension on the tilt? I read somewhere it was supposed to. That kinda changes things for me. I was hopin to have at least that.

When I get my tripod, it's supposed to be here on Wednesday I'm going to look at the spreader and see if there's a way to put some quick release push button pins in there, because I have an idea of how to make this tripod better.

Hi Ryan, nice video. Im looking a tripod por my new camera, BM6k pro. Do you recommend this one? Well, It worries me the spreaders. You explain something situations about differents jobs...and the capacity limited to down them. Do you think tha it's possible remove them and install any others like manfrotto's spreaders o any brand?

Curious if you checked out the Davis & Sanford Provista 7518B Tripod w/V18 Fluid Head...it's the same price as the SmallRig and about the same weight

Nice video. Many cheaper fluid heads exhibit a form of hysteresis called backlash. This is where you pan the head and then stop and the head moves back in the opposite direction of the pan slightly ruining the ending of the pan movement. This can be easily detected using a long lens. Did you test for this or notice if it's an issue with this head?
