This stuff can cause major health problems because all cans this old had lead seals and I have proven in my past videos that they have had over 500 ppm of lead and .12 can cause issues. Dry foods are a different story because they cannot leak lead into the food. This is some if the worst smelling things I have ever come across. Thanks for watching

If it was new the lead would be low if any but it has had 56 years to leak into it making it dangerous

You’re a brave man for enduring the actual smell of that stuff. However, you know that I find laughter in your reactions to how bad that stuff looks and smells.
I laughed, cried, cringed, and coughed all within 48 minutes. And that was just from watching the video. I can’t begin to understand what it must’ve been like in that room with the dozens of rotting and rancid foods in the air. Kudos to you, Sir. I found the lid to a K ration can out in the forests of interior Alaska once, when I was part of a search team for a lost sensitive item during one of our Army training exercises. Must've been out there for decades.
The lid, not me. We were out there for only about two weeks.
Edit: apparently K rations are much older than I realized. They were used during WWII, and for a few years afterwards, but were discontinued as they were found to be nutritionally insufficient for the fighting soldier. That lid had been sitting out there for 70 years 😳

This is a trip down memory lane for me. I ate a lot of this stuff in the Marines and honestly it wasn’t that great when it was new either. Better than MREs, though.

Even if it is gross I still think it educational to watch and know how bad and the hazard. The cans they used back then probably didn't know how dangerous it was.. Guess you haven't seen laboratory sinks. Those things are basically mini power washers but are surprisingly usable.

It definitely looked like high quality food back then, unlike the slop they put in canned food nowadays.

Not great. They were meant to keep you going and that's it. 3 Meals a Day at the most. The US Army didn't want their soldiers snacking on their rations and hence made no effort to make them taste particularly nice. In fact in one case with a energy chocolate bar that was meant as a last ditch emergency ration, they deliberately made it taste absolutely horrible in order to discourage men from having it as a snack.

I remember eating these army rations after the big 1964 earthquake in Alaska. I lived in Valdez and was only 5 years old at the time but I sure remember how good the crackers and peanut butter was!
I might of been tempted to eat a bit of pound cake it looked in pretty good condition. I just love seeing old food preserved in old cans, it's like smelling and seeing history in a can.
I cannot imagine what your house must smell like doing this. I hope you have a lot of febreze around 🤢

Around here, applesauce was still sold in cans until about 2000. Now it only comes in plastic (or glass) bottles. I understand why!

Ive got a whole box of rations here in japan there from the 1940s no joke still good never opened even to the point i can still read them and also there perfect preserved keept them in a dry place in a old box there been in my family since ww2
