I am so excited for the Chicken Salad sew along. I started sewing again when I saw Kimberly Jolly sewing this quilt. I started the first block and background fabrics from my stash. My skils needed to be refined so I put this project away. I am ready to sew with you and your quilting community.
I really will miss your Saturday quilt ( talks). I just love your videos they inspire me so much. I guess I could refresh up on some of your back videos that I saved.I truly understand your slowing down for health, family, and general life things. We all could do this to keep life going steady. Lol...😂
Pat, I want to thank you for planning the Chicken Salad quilt along. I have started this quilt and got frustrated with trying to prepare the chicken pieces (first time to try this type of appliqué). Earlier this year I did a quilt with a different type of appliqué process and it was much more successful. So, when I get back to my sewing machine in early September I want to follow your sew along! Perfect for helping me get my Chicken Salad quilt completed. I want to combine some chickens with some pieced blocks. Thanks so much!
I will miss having my coffee with you on Saturday but support you in going to five days a week. That makes sense to me. And, it’s still a lot of wonderful content for us quiltaholics. Thank you for all you do. MiCasa and Harrisonburg are off to the spa today. I need to get several quilts bound as well. No where near as many as you. I’m amazed at all you do!
What I do with binding. When I get a quilt top finished. I make the binding right away. Then put it all ready with my quilt. Then when I get to putting the binding on. It is ready to sew on and is with that quilt. This works great for me. My extra binding I put in a box for scrappy quilts. Just saying.
I don’t know how you have managed videos for 6 days a week for so long, so 5 days a week is great and I hope you enjoy some relaxation time (although I think you have so many things you want to do I can’t see you just sitting around, lol!). I have the farm girl I book that I haven’t looked at in a while and you have inspired me to get it out and so some fun blocks. Thank you!
I am so happy you are giving yourself a break. I think it will be good 5 days a week. You deserve vacation days too. I am so grateful for all you share! Happy Thursday!
I am also so glad you are taking weekends for yourself, even though I could easily watch you everyday. I have been following you for about 4 years now, and miss you when you take much deserved time off.
Looking real "crabby" today🫣 Chicken Salad looks so appetizing, I'll look for the books locally before shopping online (have to support local quilt shops). IDEA, add a few baby chicks throughout the blocks. Love your layer cakes that are on sale at FQS, bummer I'm broke😢 Fun visiting with you today. My plan is to see you, Pat Sloan, online tomorrow. Have a great afternoon & evening ❤😊
Pat, I was so happy to have found your videos during Covid. They kept me from going stir crazy😳. But, thankfully, things have improved from those days and I applaud you for going to 5 days (like a normal work week). We will all adjust. Thank you for all you do❤️
I started thinking of similar books, magazines, patterns, fabrics I'll need lol to create my own version! 😀💗 as Pat is such an inspiration don't you think? 💞
Good for you! We are sew lucky to get all the wonderful content you provide each day. You are a joy to watch and I hope you enjoy your weekends. Quilt on!! 😊🧡
Will definitely miss the Saturday shows but you have so much back content, we can fill our Saturdays in with those! You deserve more down time. I always thought that you used those big flat binding spools once a binding had been chosen for a specific quilt. The spools could even be put on the shelf until the quilt has come back from "the spa" or been freshly "wiggle stitched". Then the spool can sit between the folds of the quilted quilt until you are ready to stitch it on.
I discovered Monday that your Promise Me layer cakes were on sale, so I bought 2 of them along with a yard of 2 different 108” fabrics in the line. It is such a beautiful line of fabric.
I was wondering how long you'd be able/willing to sustain the 6-days-a-week video schedule. I thought you'd shift down long ago, but was delighted you didn't. I'm just happy you only went down to 5 days! ☺You are one hard working lady! Take care and be kind to yourself. We'll be here anxiously waiting for your videos no matter. Take care.
God Bless you Pat! Your thoughts of others is more than kind. You are loved and provide inspiration for us all. Enjoy some time for you! And we will continue to quilt along with you and whatever schedule works for you.
Pat!! All that time, finding so many bindings when you could have just got on with actually binding a quilt. I totally agree with finding a few, but I guess we know you better than you do cause in a years time you will be sorting through them again 😆
So happy that you decided to take Saturday off. You deserve it. We are lucky that you are still doing 5 days most people only do 2 or three days per week. Thanks for all the time you put into your videos.
I had 14 quilts to bind last month, so I committed 5 days to do them all. I had all the bindings premade so that saved a lot of time. I think I overcame my dislike of sewing bindings, and got over procrastinating because it actually turned out not to take as long as I thought they did.
I have no quilting computer program. What I do just measure the table …and tell that it going to fit by block size and just wing the rest, and it still works. One day I would certainly love one of the programs mainly for the coloring.
I don't cut bindings until I'm ready to bind the quilt. I change my mind too often. I might have fabric in mind that I put with the quilt project, but I just never know!! LOL.
Do the wavy stitch widthwise! It will look like water . If you set the goal at doing half those bindings by the end of the year its seems more achieveable. Then if you go one over 🎉! Tyfs 🩷
I've been watching since you were my Monday night "ME TIME"! It was great when you expanded to daily videos, but I can only imagine how time consuming they must be to produce. I'll continue to be "spoiled" with your Mon-Fri video schedule. Thanks for all you do for your many fans. And enjoy your weekends!!
I just finished my Lori Holt Chicken Salad quilt with all of the appliqué chickens. I love it so much. Am not sure what I will do with it. I have lots of fabrics left… so will sew along with you on this venture. I enjoy your daily videos so much. I will watch whatever you offer us. But am glad for your sake that you are cutting back to 5/week. Don’t want you to burn out!!!😘
Oh No! You could add the CHICKEN appliqué to the CRITTER quilt. I will be sewing along as I was in too many projects at the time FQS was hosting the Chicken Salad SA--have the books & the fabric. THANKS for the Crab Tablerunner--saved me some work figuring it out. I am sewing the quilt for my brother who lives on the water & has Crab pots out every year, now I can sew up the table runner for my niece's "Rivah" house. Where I live anything "crabby" is a hit.
Can’t wait for the Chicken Salad sew along. I missed it when FQS did the quilt. I’m all ready. I will put in a chicken or two along with all the fun kitchen items. ❤ 🐥
So enjoy your videos. I don’t know how you do 6 days a week continuously week after week. Your change of 5 days will be a good change for you. Take a few vacations as well! 🙃🙂❤️❤️❤️
Pat, I'm so happy you have decided to prioritize yourself and are going to make more time for you. I love your videos, but we will all live with one less a week. Afterall, you will still be there for us 5 times a week. Yahoo. As time goes on we all start to decide something must go and I think it's great you have made this decision. Enjoy!
I've had the vintage farm girl books for about a year and haven't picked what to make. They're all so adorable. I think l will follow your quilt along to get me started. ❤🦀🦀🦀
I have faith in you for finishing your bindings! Even though I don’t know how in the world you do everything you do. I think my mother would love the Chicken Salad quilt. Maybe I could make her one in time for Christmas…her bed is king size so it will take some time. Thanks for inspiring me!
I am so happy you are doing this chicken quilt, Miss Pat! I have this bundle all starched. The chicken quilt looked too complicated so I didn’t do it. I am so happy for this version.
I enjoy watching you plot out blocks and parts of the quilt on your computer. It gives me insight to the designing part of quilting. I am gathering my supplies to do the pumpkin quilt you mentioned yesterday. Thank you. 😘
Do appreciate all you do and I truly understand 5 days a week. While you are part of my morning ritual , I hope this will also help me keep away from the computer so early in the day. Time to get back to a normal routine. Think I might have to do the chicken salad...... hmmm.. . thinking. I need to finish quilting Harrisonburg... what to do, what to do. Have a great day .
When I finish my quilts I make the binding right away & put them all in a bag that hangs on the end of my bookshelf. I put a note with each binding so I know exactly which quilt it goes with & I already know where to look for my binding when I get my quilt back from the LA'er.
I have the 'chicken' parts, so maybe I'll do the chickens. Finally. Maybe I'll do the pieced version....but I have a layer cake I picked up to do the chickens.....Still need a bunch of the low volume backgrounds. The crab table runner is so great. I'm doing my quilt for my cousin, so maybe I'll do a few extra ones and make a table runner for myself. So many cute projects!
Love your Crabby Table Runner! So cute. Pat, I find notes with drawings and measurements like that often. I still haven't learned to write better notes to myself. Lori's Cookbook fabric does look like Grandma's kitchen--love it! I'm mid-stream in working on her Sew Scrappy Spools quilt with her Stitch fabrics.
It's only a couple hours since you posted your video. I worked 3rds last night. So I missed you this morning. Guess what? The 10"squares are sold out already (Promise Me)..sooo 😍
I love seeing you sort the bindings! I have a binding basket which I need to look closely at. Your note without saying what it is for, is something I have done often. im looking forward to the chicken salad quilt. I already have both books and a fat quarter bundle of her CookBook fabric
Love Lori Holt's fabrics. I have the fat quarter bundle of Vintage Christmas fabric. Thinking I may be able to use it for the upcoming Christmas quilt. Not sure though as I have her Vintage Christmas book filled with some great block patterns and project patterns. Oh, the dilemna 😊
Yay! I can’t wait for the Farm Girl Vintage sewalong! I bought my books a few months ago when you had first talked about it. The feed sack/1930s print of her fabrics is so cute too
I think the bright green dot binding is leftover. I think it was used on a March mini quilt. Either your cross stitch leprechaun, or a previous March block. I remember it on the small black clip stand. Not sure if it was the binding or just the border, but I think it was the binding too. Have a great day. Blessed be.
Really excited to join in on the Chicken Salad sew along. I have the books needed and some of the fabrics already. My question is since I want to sew it like Kimberly did do you know how much background fabric we would need. Lori's directions are for the chickens which are sewn onto large squares of background. Pieced blocks sewn together with a lot of stitch and flips use a lot more background fabric usually. So I am wondering how much yardage I should have ready for background?😃
Pat I'm getting to this video late and maybe I have forgotten , didn't you have some bindings in the the cabinet to the left of your sewing machine. Love all you do hope to get half as organized as you one day!!!

Cutting the block pieces & the backgrounds takes paying close attention. Trust me, I know as I cut a couple wrong when I made it along with @fatquartershop & I ended up needing to order extra fabric as I'm one of those who could not live with a teapot upside down...LOL.
That's a great idea. Also you could put it in a Ziploc bag with the quilt name written on it. Then attach the Ziploc with a safety pin to the quilt top.
Hi Pat as I watched you today I was wondering how are your wrists doing? Thanks for all you do. Love “ the bag of chicken parts” lol Glad you’re taking time for yourself . I will miss you on Saturday but fully understand your need to work 5 days. I live in Colorado and most professionals only work 4 days so good on you
i have a load quilts I'm hosting for QAL and 15 quilts to do binding on. it is boring to do that many binding one right after the other. That does not excite me at all to do them back to back, i'd have to stop doing other projects too
I am so excited for the Chicken Salad sew along. I started sewing again when I saw Kimberly Jolly sewing this quilt. I started the first block and background fabrics from my stash. My skils needed to be refined so I put this project away. I am ready to sew with you and your quilting community.

Our local quilt shop sells Lori's stuff! Sooo tempting! Love looking at her fabric! Lori's books are a bit expensive, but are very good quality!
I look forward to seeing everyone’s chicken salad, sadly I don’t have the books so I won’t be sewing along, but I think this is going to be so fun
If you have access to a library, you might be able to borrow the books.
I started thinking of similar books, magazines, patterns, fabrics I'll need lol to create my own version! 😀💗 as Pat is such an inspiration don't you think? 💞
I like Lori Holt's applique method with Sew Simple Shapes. Draw around shape on interfacing. Sew to fabric. Turn inside out.

I've loved the chicken blocks since I first saw them, and am looking forward to seeing each person's unique versions.
Nice nice crabby table topper. Love it.
Maybe you can use the Christmas green binding for you Christmas tree quilt?
Lori has some great tutorials on how she does the applique. Very helpful! I used some of the pieced squares to make cute hot pads! So fun!!
I love this quilt

You’re a sweet empathetic person Pat. Glad I’m here to watch and learn.
Thank you for sharing the chicken parts im interested it 😊 Good you need to take time for you to so will miss you but enjoy yourself 😊😊
Love the Longaberger baskets❤
Love your Crabby Table Runner! So cute. Pat, I find notes with drawings and measurements like that often. I still haven't learned to write better notes to myself.
Lori's Cookbook fabric does look like Grandma's kitchen--love it! I'm mid-stream in working on her Sew Scrappy Spools quilt with her Stitch fabrics.

Good morning everyone 😊
Pat some of those extra bindings may go for a scrappy binding for your critters!

Love seeing how you create patterns

2 yds is what the Fat Quarter Shop used
@@PatSloan Thanks for the fast answer. Love your videos!!
save those extras for pillows and table runners.
ok I had started the Chicken Salad quilt did 1 block but didn't love my fabrics so I might get the Lori Holt fabric and jump in.
Pat I'm getting to this video late and maybe I have forgotten , didn't you have some bindings in the the cabinet to the left of your sewing machine. Love all you do hope to get half as organized as you one day!!!
thanks! I actually show you that whole container's contents in a recent video. maybe it is Saturdays
Your shirt is very pretty! It looks great on you!
Oh thank you!
I’m wondering if you might consider your Monday Night Fireside Chats again? I certainly understand needing to change things in your work schedule.
Your demo chicken block u could use on a future critter quilt? Looking forward to it.
i could put the chicken into the critter quilt!
I get not wanting to learn new software. It takes more time than one wants, no matter how hard one tries to get it learned quickly. Still, I think you would find EQ8 really empowering. There are lots of people willing to teach it, and some of them have online video classes. If your program becomes so old it won’t run on your computer any more, EQ8 would be a good replacement.
I pull a binding fabric as soon as I finish a top and put it on the hangar together. It takes me longer to find backing.
I do the same. Hanging the finished top on a clothes hanger keeps it from getting wrinkled (don't want to iron it again lol). I also like to get the backing ready, press it, and hang it on another hanger next to the top. Then it's all together and ready to be quilted.

Promise Me layer cake is out of stock at the Fat Quarter Shop 😢
sorry you missed it! the weekly sale started on Monday
Maybe you could bind quilts on Saturdays now. 😂😂
If we do the chicken salad project with you and buy just one book, would the chicken salad layout free pdf still work, so we know how much yardage etch to purchase? And I got a little confused listening, do we buy farm girl 2 or the the farm girl regular.
i have yardage on the project page, did you look there? go to www.ilovetomakequilts.com/chicken-salad-qal.html
Would a fat eighth bundle work for the sew along or should I get a fat quarter bundle?
i don't know which Quilt along you are looking at, but get the supply list and use what it says
How do you make the binding for the Halloween wall hanging?
I did a video on it

Lorraine: Why don’t you take a strip of painters tape and write which quilt the binding goes with and stick it on the binding.
That's a great idea.

Hi Pat as I watched you today I was wondering how are your wrists doing? Thanks for all you do. Love “ the bag of chicken parts” lol Glad you’re taking time for yourself . I will miss you on Saturday but fully understand your need to work 5 days. I live in Colorado and most professionals only work 4 days so good on you
maybe I need a 4 day work week sometime.. haha!
Why don’t you just dig into the binding project instead of stretching it out through 2024? I’m not understanding. Is there just way too many?
Yes. She has a big pile of quilts to bind.
i have a load quilts I'm hosting for QAL and 15 quilts to do binding on. it is boring to do that many binding one right after the other. That does not excite me at all to do them back to back, i'd have to stop doing other projects too
You deserve a break. You owe no-one an explanation.
