I had the same problem with a FAI timing chain guide. Broke the same way as the one you showed us.

That's a classic fatigue failure. Either the metal being too low a grade or the design of the pressing not stiff enough for the job.

I know it's not a truck, but I had a warranty issue on a Juke 1.2 dig. What started as a small, on-load and at certain engine speeds engine buzz- turned out to be a stretched timing chain - and the engine started to sound a bit like a tractor before the dealer could look at it ... My car had only done 27k and had been fully Nissan serviced. Luckily (I think?) for me it was caught just before the warranty expired and was sorted under warranty. However, 27k miles is nothing and I am appalled that a fully serviced car can have timing chain issues so soon! I am concerned that Nissan may have put another poor quality kit in? I have no idea what they have put in. Although the engine is sounding as sweet at a nut again I am concerned that I might have the same issue in another 27k miles? Also, the Nissan dealer, in response to my question - could it snap? said "No' and I was driving around in the car for 2 weeks before it could be booked in for the job to be done. I am hoping that they might have upgraded the components - but am not sure: I have put a complains into Nissan to try to get some answers - not holding my breath.

Could you really recommend a BGA timing chain kit (65,- GBP) for my Qashqai 2.0 petrol as this kit is almost cheapest one (Ebay) compared to other kits which costs two or three times more - I'm aconcerned if this is a really good quality. Thanks in advance for your reply.

When should timing chains be changed really, maybe over 100k?

I'm puzzled why you couldn't heat up the cylinder head and press out the valve guide stem insert and reverse fit a new one?
    Instead of scrapping the head.

The problem was the broken shimm damaged the wall of the guide. Thanks for watching. More due out soon.

      West yorkshire engine services
I've been tempted to have mine done at bill Carr Shrewsbury.
      (Nearest upgrade centre to me)
But £1300 is a fair wedge of money when you won't see on the return value of the vehicle when you come to sell it.

I just brought a d40 cheap because that guide actually wrapped itself around the bottom cog and spat the timing chain off shattering the timing case cover I’m hoping the valve hasn’t kissed a piston

@@westyorkshireengineservice9160 hi there I'm Daniel from Australia I'm looking to buy an 2008 Nissan pathfinder 2.5ltr diesel engine manual transmission I'm just wandering if they have an issue with the timing chains or as it got 186000ks on it now

pretty weak timing chain guides to break like that
ive found people also buy cheap timing chain/belt tensioners only to have them fail and destroy the engines
like you say buy good quality not just something someone advertises as a quality component which turns out to be a poor quality quality component.

Cheap Ebay parts again when will people learn, Most of the time it's traders wanting to make more money as they dont care about the customer they just want a nice profit a few have tried it on me.

West yorkshire engine services expense upgrade though.
I can see why people try to save a few quid when Nissan should except there's a problem and fully if not partly fund the timing chain kit.

Had the misfortune to own a Nissan Navara I can honestly say it’s the worst vehicle I have ever owned, if your thinking about buying one then don’t you will definitely regret it . I could bang on about all the the things that went wrong with it but I can’t be bothered I just hope I can stop you wasting your hard earned money on on a bag of shit vehicle.
