Its 'just' a bass with a short cut off ADSR envelop on the filter. That is what gives it that punchy, fresh start, immediately decaying into the warm tone that is the body of the bass.
So I been struggling with fem baso a bit recently. Bought it thinking man this is gonna transform my bass sound. But I find it sounds out of tune! It might just be me, not sure, but every time I go to use it I'll get half way through a production and think something doesn't sound right here. Change the bass for a different synth and all of a sudden it sounds okay! Any thoughts?
Think that will probably be a topic for another video, but to answer your question, I'm mainly looking to find different synth leads (the 90s packs are quite good for these). Then I'll add a 16th arp and play around with the start point of the sample, to listen out for those nice textures. You can also add a bandpass filter to help bring those texture out further.
Thanks for the video! I think I have Live 12 but not Suite. I tried downloading but it said its not available in my version of Live. Is Suite needed or is there another workaround?
Nah, dude. I'll tell you. The real bass is super sensitive to velocity, you need that. Samples are crap. HALion 7 is the official Yamaha engine. 100% accuracy, sans DAC noise. Primal Audio actually do FM and it has the DAC noise emulated. You can get close with other synths, especially if the read the sysex. Arturia DX7 or NI FM8. Try that instead. The MeatBeats actually have a FB-01 looking interface. Very popular to back in the day, just like DX100.

This video came out at the exact time I needed it ! Thanks for the free preset man !
Happy to help!

How do you know what key your bass samples are in ?
Easy mate, most samples should automatically be tuned to C, but I'd use the Ableton tuner to check if I'm not sure.
Where do you get those texture arps and stuff mate? I’m making an old TDV style track and they could do with something like those

Yeh I believe you'll need Suite, or Wavetable installed separately, as this one uses that plugin.
It’s just a bass they said…it’s the B A S S
It's not just a Bass, it's a way of life 😂
