Taking a photo of the poem in the book is a really good idea. Thanks. I try to keep a copy of my collection with me wherever I go. I find that if poetry comes up in conversation, or if the person seems to be open to read poems, it’s a good opportunity to show them your work.
Great vid good tips. I actually left the sales business today im done 😂 ran into the cutco scam after weeks of door to door sales for other companies. I would rather sell poetry.
You'll never find an audience if they haven't read or heard your poetry first. The benefit is getting people to fall in love with a handful of poems and then releasing a whole collection for sale. As long as most of the poems in a collection are never before released, a lot of publishers actually prefer if a few of the poems have been previously published by journals because it tells them there's a market for your poetry. A few poems that go viral online would tell them the same thing.
Thanks for this video! It was really helpful. I started publishing all my poetry on Wattpad as a young teenager and it has been such a wonderfully supportive community , but it is frustrating to know that everything you've posted there counts as being previously published. Also I really love the shirt/sweater that you're wearing. I wish I could see the whole of it in the video. 💜
Thank you for the comment! I'm glad it was able to help you! I'm so undecided about Wattpad because the benefits and the risks are so tenuously balanced... LOL~! Thank you! The shirt says "Camp, Coffee, Repeat" and is super comfy! If I happen to wear it again for a video I'll show the whole thing. XD
You have won the secret giveaway! Sorry for announcing that a day late! Would it work for you to DM me on Twitter @KayeSpivey with your address so I can send you a signed copy of Fragments?
Hi Kaye thank you for the resourceful information. I use facebook, hope that's a good platform. I have instagram(I don't post on there as much as facebook) and Pinterest I haven't posted in a about a year (I had to create another account).
I've never had any luck with facebook for marketing! I've even done paid ads through them and found absolutely no return for poetry. Even just posting on my wall I found half the time their algorithm hid my posts from even my family and friends so I've barely been using it lately. Has it been beneficial for you?
@@KayeSpivey oh no, I truly understand. No, it hasn't been a good marketing place for me, and I haven't even paid for advertising. My pages of writing's get followers and likes, but no acknowledgement's for my poetry. My personal page get more hits when I share as a status. So, I will keep doing what I do, post where the audience read. 😁 I will keep vibing with you.
Watching this three years later and my thoughts are: poems have to be *marketable* to market

Just want to say thanks for these videos - they are super helpful to me, as I'm working on a little chapbook myself. Be well! x
I'm so glad they're helping you! Thank you! And good luck with your chapbook!
@@KayeSpivey Thank you very much!
So what good does it do to post your poetry for free when it prevents you from selling your poems.
