    VERY useful. Many thanks. Like you, I kept finding videos about making and selling low content books. My interest is in writing poetry for use with or by children; something I've been doing for 30 years as a teacher.
    One tip I would like to add (as a way of emphasising something you said) is that it is ALWAYS best to print out what you write. I found that when I wrote and edited on my computer I often fell into the trap of "reading what wasn't there" simply because the poem was in my head and I easily overlooked a spelling error or missing or repeated or word on the screen. If you also print onto paper, you double your chances of finding errors, omissions, repetitions etc. You also see your text in the real world and get a better idea of how it will look when it's part of a book. Even if you intend to go down the e-book route, it still pays to proof-read and edit on paper as well as the screen.
    I've ordered your poetry books and will be particularly interested in comparing the 1st to the 2nd in terms of print quality . . . and also to see what route you took for non-KDP self-publishing. I am also looking forwards to reading your poetry. Many of my own have focused on our world, nature and animals . . . plus shadows, ghosts. childhood, nonsense etc. I've done a lot of research into the worlds of self-publishing and it truly is a minefield. I'm still trying to decide which road to follow.
    Thanks again for your video.
    One question - my hearing is a bit dodgy and I couldn't quite pick out the name of the software you used for setting up the layout of your books. It sounded (to my ears!!!) like Cambra or Canvas, However, I "did a Google" and found that it is almost certainly Canva. Did you use this for the actual layout of the pages in your second book?

      Hello, thank you so much for ordering my books, I hope that you enjoy them.
      I couldn't agree more that it is good to print off your work. Having them to hand and rereading with fresh eyes after a couple of days break also really helps.
      The website I mention is Canva.com It is great for all sorts of things, not just book layouts. I use the paid version, but the free version is very good and well worth using.
      I have started using Google Docs to organise my work, which is also very good, I wish that I'd used it earlier.
      Good luck with publishing your work, I look forward to hearing what you decide and how you get on. I also look forward to reading your poetry!
      Thanks, Cally.

      Thanks Cally. When I receive the books, I'll naturally post reviews on Amazon.
      As you may have guessed, at the moment I've focused on recording and uploading many of my poems for chldren on You Tube, but finding a way to publish the best is the next thing on my 'bucket list'.
      Thanks again for your response.

      @@CallyLawson Hi Cally, just an update. I've just posted my reviews of 'Colliding contrasts' and 'Distraction in the minutiae' into Amazon.
      Assuming they don't find something weird to object to, I hope they'll go live in about a week or maybe a year . . . you can never tell with them.
      One thought -I initially looked for this upload in your 'poetry' playlist, but didn't find it there. It might be an idea to add this into that playlist.

    Hello Cally, I am so glad I discovered you ! I love your poems and your style, and your easy going way. The poems are so wonderful and creative and they do paint a picture with words.... I am sure I would love your artwork too in your beautiful book of paintings and poetry..You are so talented! And I love writing and drawing too, and learning to paint watercolors..I am an older lady from America, who finally has a small book of poetry about ready to publish..I am trying to figure out what artwork to include. My artwork is about average. I cannot afford to pay anyone.
    I would love to buy your books as soon as I can afford to. as I am helping a friend right now..And I will be sure and leave a review for each book.. I look forward to knowing you better and exploring your videoes..

      Hi Mary, thank you very much for watching and for your lovely feedback. It's great to hear that you are ready to publish your own book and I wish you lots of success with it. I am sure your artwork is fine, it will be unique to you, the main thing is to get good photographs of your work. I would love to read some of your poetry, do you have any online that I could see? Good luck with your book and enjoy your painting and drawing 😊

      Hi, thanks for watching 🙂 The first book is 21cm x 21cm and the second is 23cm x 15.5cm (6 x 9 inches). The font I used for the main body of writing was Arimo.

    Is there a cost involved in KDP? Please let me know

      Hi, thanks for watching. No, KDP is free to set up. They obviously get money from the book sale, and you get paid your royalty once a month.

    Did you have any issues formatting your e-book version? How did you keep the stanzas separated in your poems for reflowable text? Did you include images in your poetry e-book? If so, how did you format those for the EPUB?

    • @CallyLawson
      @CallyLawson  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. I didn’t have any problems with the formatting, I used Canva for that. I added my images on Canva, then flattened them when saving.

      @@CallyLawsonThanks for replying! Does that mean the pages were all image files? Were they fixed format for the ebook? I’m trying to do reflowable text. Thanks again,

    Dear Cally, just watched your other video on your first book you self published.
    My question is, I have a friend who is a really god artist, but not at all good with selling. She has a really good following in IG, however could you give me an ideas of where to start selling prints of her work, as web stuff is not hers or my forte. I think she needs to start selling some work as she is not working, is it a good way to make money, or is there better ways to sell the actual canvas. Thank you

    • @CallyLawson
      @CallyLawson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. This is a really difficult question as what works for one Artist doesn't always fit for another. I sell my prints mostly at small local galleries and gift shops as well as on my website. There are lots of people who maybe don't feel they can afford the original and are glad they can buy a print. I also sell prints at art and craft fairs. I would suggest finding a printer who does small quantities so that your friend doesn't have to invest in lots of stock. Pick a small handful of her favourite paintings and have those printed to see how it goes. I find small framed prints sell well. Has she thought about greetings cards too? They can sell well in local shops. Don't undersell, by selling too cheap it devalues your work. A local Christmas craft fair would be a good place to start. I hope that was useful, maybe a should do a video talking about this too! Thanks 😊
