What a wonderful time, We didn't know how good we had it.
Ed's Special K breakfast ad is GOLD!
Norm Macdonald said if there was ever one guy he met that could be a stand-up it was Bob.. Norm said he would have been awesome.
What's with the belt Uecker is wearing?
Welcome to the 70's.
Back in ‘71, Bob joked “Well when you hear of baseball you automatically think of me…” but here in 2024 that’s absolutely true Mr. Uecker. Thanks for so many years of Brew Crew Entertainment
Bob Uecker is comedic gold! He's one of the funniest people I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
My memories of Bob Uecker are at least a decade later when he was doing lots of commercials. I definitely don't recall him being this dry and witty. This video puts him in a whole new perspective and appreciation for him.
Master of the deadpan look. Amazing how he never broke.
That's what I was thinking
the best at it, see the one about the deflated football
Well he was really just speaking facts, so it wasn't hard for him to just tell the truth and let everyone else laugh!
I really liked the old Miller Lite commercials that Bob Ueuker used to do?
Tastes great, less filling.
How have I never seen this? Uecker is a legend. Always so stoic when everyone else laughs their asses off!
it's cool bob wore his batting helmet for the show.
I just got a picture sent to me from 1984 they I was unaware was taken. With my lack of knowledge of a barber I know why I allowed so few! Big hair!😆😆😱
If Bob Newhart played baseball, there he’d be.
Did you know that Bob Uecker hit a grand slam home run?
Bob is so dead pan the audience does know whether to laugh or pause 😂.
Bob Uecker reportedly adlibbed the line "Just a bit outside." in the movie Major League. He was honestly better at comedy than hewas at baseball... but then most catchers would have only been a backup to Tim McCarver.
Majority of his lines were adlibbed. He was told to just do his thing
Carson keeps saying he played 14 years in the majors when he played 6- and Ueker never corrects him. classic.
I think they counted the minor league time too.
Eat cereal to "fight"inflation... 😂 Juuuust, a bit outside...
Cereal companies actually are pushing that again with the argument that cereal isn't just for breakfast anymore.
"Juuuuuuusssst a bit outside!"
His Hall of Fame speech (as a broadcaster) is absolutely hilarious.
Johnny Carson said Bob was the funniest person he ever met.
Wow, I didn't realise he was so funny. I only knew him from the 80s sitcom Mr Belverdere until a few years ago.
he still announces brewers home games.
They should leave the team there and move Washington !!! 😂😂😂
That photo, getting ready for the game !!! 😂😂😂⚾
this one really goes back, the tonight show still in new york.
One of his funniest anecdotes, I believe chronicled in his book "Catcher In The Wry", involved Uke and, I want to say, Brave's pitcher Lew Burdette. Uke was catching one game, and called time out, in order to confer with him on the mound. Uecker trots out to the mound, and Burdette asks him: "What are you doing out here? THEY (gesturing at the crowd in the stands), think that you're out here, giving me pitching advice. The only thing you know about pitching, is that you can't hit it."
I miss this show so much. That's why I watch them now❤
A great announcer too. Brew crew fans sure are lucky to have Bob in the booth.
I prefer listening to Bob on the radio over going to a game.
Been listening to Bob do play by play since 1974, and I used to tape record his home run calls during the post game shows in ‘82. To me he is the best announcer ever. Man, is Wisconsin gonna miss him when he retires!!
@@deejay8403 Dan Dickerson is the radio lead for the Detroit Tigers. I play tennis with Dan. He speaks highly of Bob as a radio announcer. He also likes the stadium in Milwaukee.
I so appreciate comedy that centers on humor, things that are just funny.
Johnny got the biggest kick out of Uecker!!
Never have seen him with brown hair!
What a hair style!
Just a bit outside. I've said that a 1000 times.
Jonny Carson will be 46 on October 25th, 1971, and he is already turning prematurely grey.
Juuust a bit outside 😂
🙋♀️ I’m not a baseball fan, but I always enjoyed when Bob was on all those decades. I love his dry sense of humor and snarkiness. He cracks me up.
Every time I see Uecker my first thought is he must have been a fun team mate. The teams he was on must have had a loose dugout and dressing room.
If you have never seen it, watch Bob's induction speech into the Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony. You will watch it at least 2 times I guarantee.
"Maybe my last time at bat I'd look in the visitors' dugout and see the guys sitting there with their street clothes on." CLASSIC!
People don't realize how important Ed was to the show. In the 60s and 70s the show was 90 min long and Ed did the announcing, side man conversation, and ads. In 1980 during Johnny's contract negotiations, he got NBC to shorten the show length but still kept Ed as an announcer and side man.
Watching Johnny's face going to commercial, he knew that he was in for it. Bob was so deadpan and could just kill one liners. Johnny knew that he was in trouble. As someone who knew every comedian, and Bob could just kill him. Says so much about how funny he was!!!!
That belt? Lol
he had the lady next to him laughing big time
Confirmed, Mr. Baseball is not dead.
Whew!
He'll be 89 soon, birthday January 26.
@@Arashi_2358He will be 90 on January 26, 2024.
Update: His 90th birthday is today, and yes, he’s still alive and well.
Happy Birthday Ueck!
I am watching this for the104th time because Bob Ueker was the greatest Tonight Show guest of all time.
he was tied with Rodney Dangerfield and Tex Cob...A triple tie.
Great tv
THIS SHOW is how comedy was FUNNY, WITHOUT swearing and being vulgar. 👀👍👍👍
😂😂😂😂😂
They weren't allowed to on TV. But off camera and in late night clubs, they all worked blue and were often very nasty.
@@kindabluejazzThat's a good thing.
i loved uekers dead pan look with his humour except he didnt use it as much in his future persona
This is from the early 1970’s, which was early in his entertainment career. The deadpan was his schtick then, and it was hilarious. But I think it would have been limiting, too, and become too routine over his long career. The man is so funny in so many different ways.
Bob Uecker is the KING!
He’s the best!
Never cracked a smile the whole time...gosh dangit that man was funny...
This is hilarious ! I loved them both
Dude is a natural.
Ok help me out folks. Was that Barbara McNair on the couch? First off, beatlutiful woman; secondly what a great sense of humor!
Just a bit outside.
Way back, when the two of them both had non-gray hair.
Mr. Baseball. Always loved him on Carson
great video! Happy belated 90th birthday Bob.
Groovy
7:06 you can see the leftover smoke from Carson's commercial smoke break.
My father loved Carson. He most likely watched this episode.
I hope he saw the episode of Zsa Zsa Gabor and the cat! It was unforgettable.
Oh man Carson the pro he is and respect Bob kept serving up the t-balls
the live commercials .. they were great.
Never knew Uecker was so funny…..
Uecker was hilarious
Thanks Mr Uecker for the memories...
He was so goofy an funny about himself!!!
Bob was one of the most hilarious people there has been.
Is
Still is
@@brettbaratheon9776 haven’t heard from him in awhile.
He still calls Brewers games
@@stephen41467 I assume he’s still hilarious. I don’t follow and haven’t seen him for years.
Love special K, but it’s probably a bit moot on the skim milk if you add sugar too….
Yeah. I could definitely eat that cereal without the sugar.
Neat for me to see this. Being born in the early 80s, I only remember him from movies like Major League, where he still had the same, dry sense of humor, but a bit more animated. His deadpan delivery in this clip was interesting, and yet I was still laughing out loud even sitting at a DQ while having breakfast. 😂
Ill say this about the Knuckle Ball 3:33 Boston Catcher Jason Varitek could gun down someone stealing 2nd. Plus he was a switch hitter with power but he always sat out the games that Tim Wakefield pitched.
I got to sit at the perfect height and position at Fenway once; Just about midway to 3/4 up the dugout from home plate and a pitched ball was at eye level while you're seated. Sure enough that ball danced after it left Wakefield and until it crossed the plate. For another game, I sat just 3 rows up from the on-deck circle and Tek was waiting there while I was talking with friends about the knuckler dancing and while Tek never said a word, he was nodding in agreement.
Baseball was so great before they mandated criminals on each team. 60s 70s 80s was great. After that I haven't gave a chit
Me too
He is so funny. I really enjoyed this.
Bob looks like he just came from a guest appearance on Space 1999 with that belt over the sweater 😂 (Yes I know the show actually wasn't in production yet) But speaking of which it's funny when they cut away from the picture to presumably get a closer shot and come back to essentially the same shot. That's all those cameras had back then and you couldn't just truck them in. Not easily anyway. Love the lack of depth too on Jonny's iso. That production especially the set sure came a long way over the years!
One note: Ball Four didn’t knock baseball. Calling out the stupidity and hypocrisy of coaches and owners isn’t knocking baseball. It’s being truthful. It remains one of the finest sports books ever written, always funny, and it’s timeless. And it’s about more than just baseball. It’s about the changes going on in the country at the time with the Vietnam war end the masses finally fighting against authority.
I liked it too. Hard to tell when Uecker is being serious but he seemed to be when he was talking about Ball Four.
The question is; is the haircut and outfit part of the joke too?
No, that was part of the 70's😂🤦🏽♀️
Uecker says he was once traded for a case of baseballs. Gold.
His autobiography, "Catcher In The Wry" was absolutely side splitting....😂
I bought the paperback version when it came out and I read it twice, it was really a good book.
@@KTVH12 my Dad was an avid reader and left books lying around all my life...,a real eye opener when I was a middle schooler was Snake:The Kenny Stabler Story or something like that. The Kenny Stabler on the NFL Films show on ESPN was a little different than the Kenny Stabler in the book 😂
@@samspurgeon4222 I would like to read that book. I enjoyed Dan Pastorini’s autobiography. I am a big fan of his and the Houston Oilers. Dante’s life had a few twists and turns. I like learning about football players from the 1970’s.
@@KTVH12 I looked for it a few years ago with no luck, so it must be out of print. Might get lucky at a used bookstore or flea market. And I agree with you. The players from the 60s and 70s always seemed to have really interesting lives and stories to tell.
Always loved Bob, but seriously who dressed him?
The 70s
He was the best in Major League
This clip is older than almost all the others here, Johnny's voice is definitely different. I guess this was more his natural intonation?
He was just younger, hence the voice - plus he was a smoker so his voice may have aged more in his later years than is normal, but that is just a guess. I think he was 45 in this clip in 1971, and there just aren’t very many of the older shows out there for reference. This show was taped in NY, and I don’t think I’ve seen another one with that night cityscape background. Way cool.
God Bless this man.
Legend
I'm crying, he's funny as hell
After tonight's presidential debate between Donald Trump & the doped-up democrat, Harris, this is just what I needed to wind down.
Transit fares?.. he had left New York the year before.Who's the African American lady sitting there?..😢
In the thumbnail it looks like Mr. Ueckers' head is on backwards.
Bob Ueker on Futurama, "This is brought to you Month Old Hot Dogs, thr hot dogs with experience ummm hmmm 😅
What's Bob wearing? A miniskirt?
White George Brown Lisa Miller John
Could have been as big as Leslie Nielsen rip.
Loved his story about trying to get a hit for a sick kid in a hospital. He struck out 4 times and the kid relapsed. But he said it didn't matter because the kid was an outpatient, anyway.
Anyone eat Special K lately? They really are Frosted Flakes in disguise.
