Columbus Crew off memory built the very first soccer-specific stadium in MLS about 20 years ago but, of course, recently replaced it with a newer stadium. Also, you called it a new and up-and-coming league which isn't quite true because the league started in 1996. It nearly folded in the early noughties but has gone from strength to strength since.

TQL Stadium in Cincinnati is woven into the fabric of the neighborhood it is in. Over-The-Rhine may be the most gentrified urban area in all of North America but game day is amazing. The march to the stadium is a tradition going back to when they played at Nippert. There are a ton of awesome things to do around the stadium with bars, restaurants and even Findlay Market a little further away.
Columbus' new stadium is sweet too. The Arena District just keeps getting better.

Soccer is very popular in Canada. Here in the Metro Toronto area, we used to have a lot more football and baseball fields than soccer. Now, many have been converted into soccer fields along with new pitches as more and more kids / teenagers are choosing to play soccer instead of baseball or football. Less chance of injury, less expensive to play, and great exercise as there's a lot more running involved than the other two sports.

I grew up in Uruguay which is historically one of the greatest soccer nations. Any of these stadiums would be a jewel in the country.
Although we have the Estadio Centenario which hosted the 1st Fifa WC in 1930, there are very few stadiums and none of them as modern as these. We're lucky in this country.
Baseball and football should do their projects with private funding. If they're so confident in their product and vision, they shouldn't ask for a community handout. That's why I'm so mad at the A's situation. If you don't have the money to play, then stay away and let the big boys handle it.

I hate Toyota Stadium. It’s so far from Dallas (in Frisco), parking is atrocious, no canopy at all (it’s sooooo hot) and the overall atmosphere is sad. Maybe only redeeming factor is the national soccer hall of fame but they really should invest on a newer stadium or some very extensive renovations. I would rather see them play at Dragons Stadium (literally a high school stadium) in 2003 than watch them now at Toyota.

There are 6 teams in MLS that currently don't play in a soccer specific stadium NYCFC, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps, Charlotte FC, Atlanta United & the New England Revolution. NYCFC currently splits games between Yankee Stadium & Citi Field & this arrangement will continue until 2027 when their new soccer specific stadium is completed. As for Charlotte FC, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps & Atlanta United they play in NFL/CFL stadiums & for 3 of the teams (Seattle, Vancouver & Atlanta) they likely won't move out of their current homes mainly because those stadiums were originally built with soccer in mind. In fact all 3 stadiums will be hosting 2026 World Cup matches. As for Charlotte, I could see them going the soccer specific stadium route for their new home should the Panthers decide to build a new stadium to replace Bank of America Field.
Then with New England, they play at Gillette Stadium. This isn't by choice even though Robert Kraft owns the club because they have tried to build a soccer specific stadium in Boston (where the majority of fans live) in the past but it has been rejected many times. I could see the Revolution move to a smaller city in the New England region (think Hartford or Providence) in the future to get that soccer specific stadium. However as long as Robert Kraft owns the club, he is perfectly fine with keeping the club where it is because he can make a profit off of fans having to drive 45 minutes to Foxboro & pay high prices for parking & concessions even though attendance has gone down dramatically each season the Revolution have played there.

      1. The Revolution don't charge for parking.
      2. Attendance hasn't "gone down dramatically" each season. They've been there for 27 years now. If attendance had gone down each season, they'd have no one showing up any more.

@@simonhimself1 yeah but they play an hour away from where most people live. If they were to go back to the Cottonbowl or Arlington they could get more fans. Also the design with one end having tons of seats across 1 or 2 stands is copying Dortmund and their stadium. They call it the Yellow Wall. Tottenham did it too with their new stadium. It's meant to be the section where the ultras reside.

I can see Belmont University using Nashville's Geodis Stadium for college football in the next few years. They wanted Vanderbilt to use it, but Vandy said no, thank you.
