      Have no fear! I did 2 colour brioche for my second ever project, I had only made a cowl in stockinette before when I attempted doing a brioche cowl. It was actually not difficult at all, my only advice is just to pay attention to what you're doing because mistakes are a bit tedious to try and fix. I watched Arne and Carlos' tutorial as well and that was helpful :) Good luck!

    I’m so enjoying all the textures - it’s becoming a sensory blanket for me as I’m knitting. Leaning towards attempting brioche for the first time to break up the hole-y textures. Thank you so much - every section is new learning for me! I’ll be celebrating my 1 year knitting anniversary with a piece I never dreamed I could accomplish 🙌

  • @christina.b2710
    @christina.b2710 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Puhhh, Mr. West ihr "Criss Cross" verlangt mir einiges ab, dass ist echt Arbeit, am schlimmsten empfinde ich das weiterschieben der Maschen...😁 Da hätte ich aber einen Tipp, evtl. nicht für Alle...ich stricke mit austauschbaren Spitzen und habe mir jetzt einfach eine 2,75 mm Spitze drauf gedreht, damit geht bei mir das Weiterschieben um einiges leichter und ich werde vielleicht bis zum nächsten Freitag mit Section 11 fertig🙄
    Dies ist mein erstes Projekt von Stephen West und mein erster MKAL, es macht mir Mega-Spaß und auch wenn mir nicht alle Muster supergut gefallen, bleibe ich hartnäckig am Ball und ziehe das jetzt durch😀 Ich habe bis jetzt schon viel Neues gelernt, u.a. Brioche, worüber ich mich sehr freue👍 Tausend Dank an den "Meister" für diese hervorragenden Tutorials, Chapeau 🎩🎩🎩

    Stephen, you are an incredible teacher. I avoided brioche for years until THIS pattern, and this video (and I've been knitting since 1978). You have totally broken through my fear/anger at previous brioche instructions by others. You make it so dang easy. And I LOVE the troubleshooting-- for example, how to find a dropped brioche stitch. I also love, "if you don't have the right number of stitches, just throw one in/out somewhere..." Thanks, too, for the "counting 11 in the reverse color A column" for figuring out how many rows to do in the brioche section. I would not have figured that out, and I've been worrying about it. I don't have to worry because of these great videos. FYI, I don't think -- even as experienced as I am -- that I could have done this pattern (or done it correctly) without these videos. They are an absolute must, at least for this pattern.

  • @TheSukiebapswent

    Just on the short rows of section 2 and I am looking forward to my favourite brioche! Your teaching is so clear. I had tried to learn brioche without success but having watched your tutorials I took on Flying Foxtails as a first project and nailed it! This shawl is a real knitters workout, new techniques and challenges every week so far. I'm not 100% happy with my colour choices but I'm adding in a few extra pops and trusting that the overall effect will be wonderful. Thank you for helping thuis overworked, exhausted doctor to stay sane amidst the madness x

    I originally thought my skill level wasn’t ready for brioche but this shawlography has been such a learning experience, I had to do it. I finished the brioche (with a few boo boos) but your instruction was so amazing. I loved the stitch shawl and party analogies - they were very helpful for me. At the end of the section, even though I made a few mistakes, I understood what I did wrong and was able to read the knitting. Thank you for the great instruction!!. I’m working on the criss crosses and they are so beautiful. I decided to add a strand of mohair to this section and have absolutely no regrets. Anything goes 😀. Can’t wait to see clue 4.

    I am picking up my Shawlography from last year, where I left off after completing Section 2 with the shortrow wedges. Now, in Section 10, having chosen the brioche option, I have knit Row 1 (RS) row and Row 2 (Wrong side) with color B, and am beginning to start Row 2 (2nd wrong side row) with Color A, when I counted stitches and realize I have only 408 instead of 415. Can I increase to get up to the correct number of stitches, or will this mess up the brioche columns at this point? You are an amazing designer and wonderful teacher. Thanks so much.

    • @cmc7489
      @cmc7489 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a tight knitter and have suffered with needle and cable joins. Loosen up! In your body and the yarn. I use to choke the needles with the yarn when making a stitch. To solve the immediate problem of moving stitches over the join, find some ease in the row. Move the stitches from the needle to the cable. Starting with a small segment close to the join, pull those stitches using the extra yarn over the join and onto the needle. Continue until you have enough to start working the stitches and not too tight.

    Ouch!!! Section 11 is turning out to be a b&^*# ! When doing the wraps (four times around each knit stitch), you should tell people to either wrap those really loosely or to use a larger needle for the wrapping, then slip it all onto a smaller needle. OR be sure to use interchangeables and be able to change your left hand needle to a smaller needle so you can push those wraps onto the needle (from the cable). It's pretty much impossible to push those wraps up from the cable to the left hand needle. I don't even know if I can pull the needle out to rip back and start this section over. (A local knitting friend said she actually CUT her cable to free her stitches... I really really do not want to do that.)

    My one comment on Brioche. I've done it many times, so I'm not intimidated. However, on Row 4 WS I realized that I'd dropped a stitch while working Row3 RS. I was able to undo it and with DPs pick it up at the beginning and hopefully I've repaired it. After a couple more rows I'll be able to see if I did it right. For those unfamiliar with Brioche, maybe take some other yarn and needles and work up a swatch to become familiar first, and take your time while working it on your shawl. Don't drop a stitch like I did!
