Sorry to see you crashed. I thought it was good that you did a few "intervals" to check if you head was clear. Even though you started in the back, I think you gained some valuable race time and learned. Excellent start, the best place to pass lots of people. Strategy to get out front and away from crashes was also good. Excellent idea to pull out instead of trying to ride while your feeling sketchy. Lots of race experience and ended on a happy note! Yea!!
ok, let's see here. 1 point for Morning! 2 points for snatching up that bike without a thought and getting on with it. (well wishes to the unlucky girl who flipped over her bars). 1 point for evaluating concussion. 2 points for suiting up and racing. 3 points for recognizing troubling signs and pulling out. 1 point for beer. 2 points for lippie. and 3 points for putting together a great video through it all.
Happy to hear that everything went as well as possible .. You had some hard choices there but raced well and ended the day happy with friends !! What more could anyone ask for !!
Glad you were not injured other than the concussion you seemed to be suffering and super bummed you dint get to race as you wanted as you looked ready to give a good account of yourself. Still awesome Juliet and as you say that’s fixed gear crit racing. 🤙🏻
First video of yours I've seen, youtube reccomended it to me after watching the GCN video about RedHook Milan. After both yours and theirs videos, I am 100% going to this next year. Milan is already my favourite city in Italy, I had no idea such a badass event even existed. Also, fuckin' ace WyndyMilla bike. Total dream machine right there.
Love that you and Dave are living THE life! And totally envious because 30 yrs ago when I was your age it wasn't a option. However......... :-/ pretty sure when you and your coach review the video you'll admit you were a little off the mark on the apex of that turn and your eyes totally steered you into the crash instead seeing the pass on the left? It was encouraging that you weren't late and didn't forget anything though! :-D~
Bloody hell on the crashes which wasn't your fault! At least you got up and raced again!! Your kit looks so HOT. 😍Oh and your post race dress up is gorgeous!!
What is the best part of Red Hook Crit? That is easy, watching Juliet Elliott! I imagined you were going to say, I kept getting sicker, and as I crossed the line for the win, I threw up on the flag person. Oh and thank you for not dying!
I really like your team kit...its so easy to spot you & Keira in the pack. I feel for you...you had such a great start but sh%t happens in a race beyond your control. Keira is a good team mate & she's right...people don't know when they have a concussion. But I can't believe that she didn't try to bribe you with beer not to race. I know I would have :)
That's a hell of bright colored bike you got there. I'm sorry you were caught up in the crash, wasn't your fault, there was no way to avoid it at the speed you were doing. Hopefully you're not too sore.
Great courage, although I think we all need to look more carefully at concussion. Beautiful with makeup, more beautiful without it... Keep up the good work
Rewinding to the point the slide out begins, it was moisture on the thermoplastic paint markings which caused the person in front of you to slide out. Those things are dangerously slippery when they get wet. It also appears that the original crasher already had a cast on her left leg. Perhaps she crashes a lot and should be a name you watch for in future races.
What a racing spirit! You're fabulous! Thanks for such an interesting video from the heart of the race. Oh, and by the way, what's the name of the song that starts at 6:24?
Thanks Alexander 😁 I'm not sure, I'm really sorry! I drag song into the project, export the video to TH-cam and then delete the files so now I can't find out
I analyzed the video. It's the crosswalk paint that caused the initial slide out. If you watch the previous riders you will see if they catch a little of it they slip a little. The rider that fell first road the back wheel too long on just the white cross walk paint. Slamo! I always avoid the paint on wet days. Cheers
It's not brave, or tough, or fighting spirit, it's just dumb putting yourself at risk like that. Glad you understood to not finish the race, but very disappointed you even started in that condition. I'd much rather see you keep racing than see you have to retire because you stubbornly had to race. Take care of yourself, please.
Totally agree with HOvi, Juliet. You probably will not be recommended for a head CT if your blurry vision and headache is gone, but unfortunately such incidents can result in neck problems later on in life, and more specifically cervicogenic headache and dizziness. Repeated blows to the head, wearing a large helmet which acts as a lever when you fall, stresses disks and your neck muscles through which the occipital nerves pass. Happened to me. Nothing you can do afterwards. It can bother you for decades even though you feel "fine" right after the incident and your headache goes away in a day or so. Maybe the only acceptable solution to preventing such crashes is to advise riders to slow down on corners in wet weather but if you want to stay in the sport for long, it is perhaps the best compromise.
47x14? It would be interesting to have seen how that would compare to 50x15 in terms of feel and perceived effort etc.? (less than an inch difference assuming a 25mm tyre)
I'm also interested what are the differences in feel. Theoretically the chain has less friction with bigger rings but it will be slightly heavier. But I doubt that's makes any real difference. Practically it's about trial and error. Trying different things and seeing what works for you the best. Also crank arm lengths do matter.
Glad you kept going, despite the crash. Didn't look like you hit your head. My guess would be neck muscles tweaked around. Pain can make you feel bad enough to throw up. Hopefully, better quickly. I have to say, you do impressively fast starts for such tall gearing. Looked like a very fast race.
The other rider lost their rear wheel on the zebra stripe of the crosswalk. It's hard to tell, but I think their wheel slipped out from under them as they were diving into the turn and the rear tire fell completely within the paint. That's not really on the other rider; that could happen to anyone, regardless of their skill level. Looking at in other terms, they didn't really mean to crash and/or take you out of the race. If there is anyone responsible, it would be the race promoter; they chose the course. Unfortunately, crashing is part of racing. I'd feel fortunate to walk away from it, with most of my skin intact, no major mashes, or pulled whatevers.
Crashing is always a bummer, regardless of the cause. I am glad that you weren't hurt, and it sounds like no one was seriously hurt, which is also a good thing to hear.
Yo guys i really wanna change from my singlespeed torpedo break to a fixed gear bicycle Do i have to change the whole wheel or just the cog And if i only need to change the cog Isn't it gonna interfere with the brakesystem in the hub?
i think you should be very careful with concussion...and i think there is too many racers in those crit...and on wet pavement !! ouch. i'm surprise there was only one crash. Weoul love to have news on the lady who crashed.
Great Video. So glad you got to enjoy it even with a bit of vom in your mouth! High Five, off to Insta to do some post liking as I love that skin suit!!
Gah sorry you crashed. Great effort though. Just wondered, how do you manage on all these flights/travels with your little one? Any tips for keeping a child happy (and relatively quiet!) on a plane?!
Hey Juliet! In the future if you crash and have a head injury please don’t race! If you were to crash again and sustain another head injury on top of the first one it could have serious consequences for your brain! You have a very nice brain and you have to live with it the rest of your life! It would be a shame to permanently damage it! It may be your favorite race but it’s just one race after all! Race, have fun and take care!
If I'd slammed by head into the floor, I wouldn't have raced. But I didnt. That kind of impact would be apparent on my helmet. I felt well enough to start the race and as soon as I realised I actually wasn't, I pulled out.
Any signs of neurological deficit should always be investigated/assessed medically. Vision changes, nausea, headache, amnesia altered level of consciousness etc. And its ill advised to overly exert yourself or drink alcohol following such an event. Just used to deal with this type of thing in my past profession. Don't forget to tell your G/P or go straight to an Emergency Dept. if symptoms worsen.
Amazing race footage. So many other places that talk about any coverage of the RHC barely mention anything at all about the women's event which I think is just terrible because the racing in this part of the RHC is just as exciting as the men's race. Too bad about your crash. Hope you are feeling better.
Yes, I thought that was very strange. I figured since they had Emma as one of the presenters they would also send her there to even just speak with the lady racers.
Migraines are horrible. I get 'silent migraine'. No headache, just a panic feeling and overcome with an aura that lasts 30 minutes. Triggered by stress and being in the heat too long on my bike.
Always better to put the bike down and slide in, rather that than the poor girl who went straight over the handlebars into the barriers... Bike racing is soooo dangerous....
I don't see how anyone can complain about crashing in a fixed gear race...of course it's going to happen, either form your own fault or being involved in someone else's mistake.
I just don't get it: if so many cyclist have to go together it's almost a miracle if nothing bad happens. People take a risk to get seriously injured and complain that they actually got hurt. What for? Well, at the end I don't have to get it.
Sorry to see you crashed. I thought it was good that you did a few "intervals" to check if you head was clear. Even though you started in the back, I think you gained some valuable race time and learned. Excellent start, the best place to pass lots of people. Thanks, it's nice to get some positive feedback rather than just *$@# about starting the race after crashing!!
I saw you pick that bike up after your crash like an absolute soldier and carry on. And then to race after whilst sick, hard as nails.
ok, let's see here. 1 point for Morning! 2 points for snatching up that bike without a thought and getting on with it. that's a lot of points, thank you!!
That's you half the way to an Elite License, based on those points.
Did the girl who did the flip end up in a parallel universe? She sort of disappeared. Hope she's okay.
she didn't break any bones but I imagine she is pretty sore right now
her face was swollen.
check team shindelhauergates
Great video! Massive strength on that hole shot! Save your health, JE. We love you and we all want to see more videos!
Morning! Liked it. Crashing in wet kind of inevitable. That painted crossing spooked me straight away.
Juliet, you are such a delight ! So entertaining. So real and so raw. Thanks, love :)
Thanks Lindzee xx
Proud and happy for you and Keira. Amazing effort. Stuff of modern day gladiators.
😁
Great video, thanks for sharing. You are an inspiration and motivator to keep riding.
Thanks so much, I'm in need of positive comments like yours, feeling pretty down after some of the negativity on here
Happy to hear that everything went as well as possible .. You had some hard choices there but raced well and ended the day happy with friends !! What more could anyone ask for !!
Thanks Lindsay, it wasn't the greatest end to the season but I did have fun
Glad you were not injured other than the concussion you seemed to be suffering and super bummed you dint get to race as you wanted as you looked ready to give a good account of yourself. Still awesome Juliet and as you say that’s fixed gear crit racing. 🤙🏻
Nice to see bubbly Juliet is back, really enjoy watching you race, unlucky on the fall but looking strong 💪
First video of yours I've seen, youtube reccomended it to me after watching the GCN video about RedHook Milan. After both yours and theirs videos, I am 100% going to this next year. Milan is already my favourite city in Italy, I had no idea such a badass event even existed.

Bloody hell on the crashes which wasn't your fault! At least you got up and raced again!! Your kit looks so HOT. 😍Oh and your post race dress up is gorgeous!!
Thanks. Yeah, loving our new kit!!
Respect for getting up from the crash Juliet! Even if it maybe wasn't the result you wanted you and Keira looked awesome out there! 🔥
Thanks guys 😁😁😁
crashing sucks, really glad you decided to race the finale!!!!!
What is the best part of Red Hook Crit? That is easy, watching Juliet Elliott! I imagined you were going to say, I kept getting sicker, and as I crossed the line for the win, I threw up on the flag person. Oh and thank you for not dying!
Aw, thanks, glad you enjoy watching me! Glad I made it through
Well done for going for it! Definitely earned the beer I think!
Sorry for your results and hope you feel better soon. Amazing edit and sound track and paceing of the film. I think your TH-cam has had an impact
Thanks Ryan, glad you enjoyed it 😁
that bike is the prettiest thing EVER!!!!!!
Damn that poor girl who flipped. Hope she’s okay.
Yeah, poor girl, it's horrid to watch her fly. She didn't break any bones but I expect she is very sore
Every your video i see day and night . U r very good bicycler
Great Job. Tough girl. Glad you are ok. Fun watching you even when you are obviously miserable. Keep your head up. Next season no DNFs.
Let's hope so!!
Aww i would love to try that, looks so fun and eventful.
Best ever. Just so aggro punk rock go for the win. Just avoid hitting your head again for a while.
That's a hell of bright colored bike you got there. I'm sorry you were caught up in the crash, wasn't your fault, there was no way to avoid it at the speed you were doing. Hopefully you're not too sore.
Thank you. Yeah, I would have been able to avoid it if it wasn't wet but no chance with it being so slippery
youre amazing,,,proud of you!!!
As Kiera offered you sound advice I was thinking can't see Juliet listening to anyone when she wants to do something 😂 how right I was
Great courage, although I think we all need to look more carefully at concussion. Beautiful with makeup, more beautiful without it... Keep up the good work
You would make a fantastic coach! your people skills, knowledge, drive, motivation, and attitude would make extremely successful at it.
Thanks. I'm actually a qualified coach, I'm just not doing much of it at the moment
Rewinding to the point the slide out begins, it was moisture on the thermoplastic paint markings which caused the person in front of you to slide out. Those things are dangerously slippery when they get wet. It also appears that the original crasher already had a cast on her left leg. Oh noo another time birra Moretti... like the past year ! This girl...😉🍻
What a racing spirit! You're fabulous!
Thanks for such an interesting video from the heart of the race.
Oh, and by the way, what's the name of the song that starts at 6:24?
Thanks Alexander 😁
I'm not sure, I'm really sorry! I drag song into the project, export the video to TH-cam and then delete the files so now I can't find out
That's ok! That sound was like a literally made for that racing episode. Nice pick!
I analyzed the video. It's the crosswalk paint that caused the initial slide out. If you watch the previous riders you will see if they catch a little of it they slip a little. That is bad luck. But, I'm really glad you decided to race though. One of these days you'll get a clean race in.
Is Lena single?☺

Hard-core you know the score XX
Minute 4:10 I love it!!! I did not like that she crash but the way she explained it.
Yo guys i really wanna change from my singlespeed torpedo break to a fixed gear bicycle
Do i have to change the whole wheel or just the cog
And if i only need to change the cog

You're one tough cookie Juliet, always bounce back 4:32
i think you should be very careful with concussion...and i think there is too many racers in those crit...and on wet pavement !! ouch. i'm surprise there was only one crash. Weoul love to have news on the lady who crashed.
ikr. They pack in so many racers and the track is quite narrow.
The Girl who "flipped" in the crash is Sammy (IG:@sammythefoxx). She is riding for Team Schindelhauer Gates, and she is ok, luckily.
nice work on getting up and getting on it! Glad your ok!!
Thanks Timothy
slippery in the wet painted zebra crossing, right before the apex in the wet,
Hope that girl that bloody flipped is ok don’t guess you know
No broken bones but I'm pretty sure she hurt her face ☹
Juliet Elliott glad to hear she is some what ok and you are a ok
mgsboedmisodpc2 it’s nasty 🤢
Great Video. So glad you got to enjoy it even with a bit of vom in your mouth! High Five, off to Insta to do some post liking as I love that skin suit!!
The headache and nausea are worrying. I've seen my share of concussions; I hope that all checks out ok for you.
Gah sorry you crashed. Great effort though. Just wondered, how do you manage on all these flights/travels with your little one? Any tips for keeping a child happy (and relatively quiet!) on a plane?!
I don’t understand your reply sorry?
erm a dad looking after their kid is not being a nanny 🙄

Thanks. I know, I was super annoyed that GCN didn't even mention a womens race or show a single woman. What the hell?
Yes, I thought that was very strange. I figured since they had Emma as one of the presenters they would also send her there to even just speak with the lady racers.
Great discussion about how cool you are on this week "The Cycling Podcast Feminin"
looking forward to listening!!!
Nah, the Biskwit always looks blurry, too much water and not enough beer I reckon. ;)
Glad you went for it, think you would have been second guessing yourself if you hadn't.
Migraines are horrible. I get 'silent migraine'. No headache, just a panic feeling and overcome with an aura that lasts 30 minutes. Triggered by stress and being in the heat too long on my bike.
I slowed down the video and it doesn't appear that you hit your head on the ground, but definitely symptoms of a concussion. Hope you're better soon.
There were some marks from the tarmac on the side of my helmet where I slid but no dents
Good for you!! Thanks for the vid-
You're welcome, thanks for watching
What a trooper.
What happen did you feel better later on or did the headaches persist?
I drank beer and danced at the party. All good
Juliet E and Katie K - “You can lose your mind, when cousins are two of a kind.”
If riding a bike and being a woman makes you cousins then I have a lot...
Always better to put the bike down and slide in, rather that than the poor girl who went straight over the handlebars into the barriers...
Bike racing is soooo dangerous....
sure is. and hell yeah, I was the one who flew over the bars at the last RHC, I know how awful that is!
Huge effort and a great video again Juliet. Hopefully your luck improves for next time!
You gave it 110% you did it
Who's the well inked chap at 0:26?
Mate be careful. Great video
Thanks Jay
ZEBRA STRIPES STRIKE AGAIN!!!
So are you going to show the organisers the video so you don't get down graded in position for the next critt?
It doesn't work like that
Btw, friends don't let friends ride with concussion symptoms!
What cat racer are you Julie?
Top effort to get back on and go again but smart enough to listen to your body head injury are no fun
god damn, that's not your fault, where were you going to go
that sucks
get a brain scan , i mean a CT scan to check for mild concussion, check for swelling or bleeding
Don't ignore concussion.
I barely touched the ground with my helmet - there's basically no damage except a couple of scratches
Except you had symptoms of concussion in the video. I know because I recognize them by experience.
But it's your head and your life.
Iwatched the crash a couple of times and i would suspect whiplash rather than concusion. Throw up under your armpit it stops people drafting.
You're right, my neck is stiff and sore now
Yup! at 3:42 that wheel just hit you right in the neck...

I don't see how anyone can complain about crashing in a fixed gear race...of course it's going to happen, either form your own fault or being involved in someone else's mistake.
That's silly. I've raced numerous fixed crits without crashing
I've never crashed in any of the fixed gear crits that I have raced
SOB , hang in there
you are always on the out side of the turn in these crashes just sayin
I'm so confUSED!
Dannnnggggg that blows
she's on the gear
you can only get a concussion if you hit your head. and if you hit your head, you would see the damage on your helmet.....just saying
Helmet had marks on it from where I slid..... Just saying
you and Kira ...grrrl pwr
Is your bike ok?
Yeah, just tore the bar tape and scraped the bars
Morning! 🙋🏼♂️
keira and the braless move. i approve.
The girl who flipped over. Is she okay. She flew
From what I remember she broke her finger but was otherwise ok
Ouch!!
I just don't get it: if so many cyclist have to go together it's almost a miracle if nothing bad happens. People take a risk to get seriously injured and complain that they actually got hurt. What for? Well, at the end I don't have to get it.
It’s called a criterium, it’s a very common format. Motor racing is also very dangerous. As is the Tour de France. And whole ton of other sports...
😃👑✌👌

Why do they not paint over the white traffic lines with grippy paint.. stupid..
No racing like that come on!
