If you buy state and go entry level make sure you get the 4130 line, also black friday is the best time to buy from them since those bikes should be on a 300 mystery sale.
Look into the Aventon Cordoba Series, really great aluminium frames and okay components that you can upgrade down the line, if they don't suit your needs
This is the future of bike racing. Now a days not too many people watch a stage from beginning to end. RHC is fast, furious, full of color, available for everybody (bikes are relatively cheap) and just amazing. GCN should help to promote this kind of races and maybe organize one as well
The simplicity of the bikes and the paint jobs make them beautiful. Also, the fixed gear scene is so much more laid back and friendly than the road scene from my experience.
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be competing in a Redhook Ollie. Don't think we've forgotten about your TT loss and the bet that was made just because it was on your previous channel... #neverforget
I did Red Hook Brooklyn for the first time this year on a 1980s track bike. I used a modern wheelset and components, so the weight was pretty similar to most of the bikes shown in this video. I wasn't alone, as there were a few other people racing lugged steel bikes as well. I was running 23s and had 50x15 as my ratio, although the Brooklyn course is different than Milan.
Red hook bikes always look way hotter than world tour bikes. You missed the coolest part of that Cinelli tho. It's the new Vigorelli Shark with an aero "fin" below the BB inspired by the old Cinelli Laser. Can't wait to get my hands on one. Love how Cinellis look and handle.
More fixed gear content (specially track cycling), please! I REALLY wanna know how James prepared for RHC (from bike choice to training sessions and nutrition).
Yes more fixed gear content please. I love how many different variations there are to riding a bike and this is just what I'm getting into lately. Recently figured I can commute using a single speed so I bought a track bike.
A thing about fixed gear...the art,the design, the people, the cornering, the speed and most importantly the crashes...hell yeah...no other sport as fun to watch as this.
Thank you ollie for not calling them fixies GCN has done so on the past. It's nice to see you guys covering a Red Hook finally hope to see more fixed gear race coverage
Red hook crit is something I watch every year live and it’s a great experience and the culture and bikes are always amazing...it’s great you guys are expanding into this sub genre...more videos on fixed crits please!!!
I love riding my fixed gear bike. I used to ride a road bike. I decided to jump to a fixed gear bike as it is just much simpler. It has been around since for decades. In fixed gear races, it is lesser about the tech and more about the skills. You dont have to have a full carbon bike to win a race. It is also much more fun to ride than a road bike. I have been riding fixed gear for about 6 years now and looking back, selling my road bike for a fixed gear bike has been the greatest decision of my cycling life.
I really want to try it but I also love brakes... How do u handle emergencies on the road? I have to emergency brake all the time where I live. Pedestrians all seem to be trying to commit suicide on roads right now.
@@reddaB you can ride fixed gear bikes with no brakes. Start with two brakes.. once you are confident back pedaling to slow down you can remove your rear brake. After that just use your front brake for emergencies only. You can learn how to skid a fixed gear bike. There are loads of tutorials on it on TH-cam. You can keep the front brake on as a form of emergency. The most important thing about riding a fixed gear bike is to be aware of your surrounding and always look ahead.
FINALLY! Some fixed gear content on GCN. More please. I want to learn more about the tech, the skills, and the races! I love the simplicity of a fixed gear setup.
Just love Ollie's enthusiasm for the track bikes! He catches all the details that make them so attractive. Include more fixed and track coverage please!
Was excellent to see Fixed Gear coverage but the best part was Ollie's enthusiasm and excitement throughout. Good job. Hopefully they put London back on the race calendar next year and we get more coverage.
One of the other cool bits of tech is that track bike frames' geo typically sees a raised bottom bracket to avoid pedal strike. This means that the high BB, shorter 165mm cranks and road pedals, pedal strike is nearly eliminated. Also, at 2:37, the woman in the background was the rider whose bike was being featured.
Saw him at Ladner Crit 2017 at BC Superweek when he had to borrow a female teammate's bike because CyclingBC didn't allow disc bikes yet and they were scrambling. He was the only one on his team who got to race the day and he won on the borrowed bike. He is a monster!
I ride fixed gear track bikes as a courier. I love this channel but I can't really relate to all of the roadie stuff. I'd absolutely love to see more fixed and single speed content. Especially DIY builders and small shops that specialize in it all over the world that you fine folks get to see.
GCN should cover track bikes more. Ever since watching the first track bike video produced I started riding a track bike and I feel that more videos on them should be made
Short cranks, as well as the high clearance, would surely make sense for high rev races. If the racers are doing 100+rpm, smaller circles would have to be easier to get around so quickly. And yes, more of this kind of content. Lots of cyclists have single speeds/fixed gears as our 2nd/commuter/round-town bike (well, I do, anyway) and it's great to see things that apply to that end of the scale.
Yes! Please show more fixed gear racing stuff like the RHC. I'm a road crit racer who doesn't ride fixed, but I believe the fixed racing scene is underrepresented. Many road racers (including a few of my teammates) race road, track, and fixed.
Another interesting note, the drive train on that 8bar is using a special chainring and cog that are designed specifically for an 11sp chain. I believe the system was developed for or in conjunction with the German national track team
henry watts they just use 3/32 chains instead of the wider track chains. you can get dura ace chainrings and cogs in 3/32 narrower teeth nearly in any shop
+1 to much more tech on fixed gear particularly with the track world cup coming ! It would be awesome because there is plenty of super cool custom tech over there too 😍
Love seeing the breadth of road related cycling! Track bikes are how I became a damn roadie! Still jam around the Portland streets on my track bike a couple times a week! I pretend it’s for my training, but really it’s for the love.
The coverage is much appreciated. Every year it's a challenge finding content as Red Hook Crit doesn't provide anything really. I think there was one year that race commentary was put out but mostly just waiting around to see what the other TH-camrs do. Also would like to see some SS/fixed training vids. Think it could really help bring the cycling community together once more roadies see the value of it as both a training tool and separate discipline.
Red Hook is not the only series. It spawned many fixed gear criterium races. Many of the racers go to multiple venues, and a few add in velodrome racing.
Awesome behind hide the look for the red hook crit. What I really loved is the detail that you went into for the bikes. Gearing ratio 50:14 = 96.4. 28mm tyres.
Great job Ollie you answered all my questions that I had! 1.( Clinchers, Tubulars or Tubeless) 2.( Air Pressure and Tyre Width) 3.( Crank length and Gear Ratio) 4.( What type of Tattoo do you need and how many?( LOL)! Again great job I especially enjoyed the custom bikes there are just some really really cool custom bike and wheels sets there! Do they have a free lap at all for mechanical or tyre pressure? Also it would be cool to see some track bikes once and a while! The Tech show have John show us how you can turn your road bike into a fixed gear bike with the rear wheel?
The Specialized Allez is the Allez Sprint frame. It has D’Aluisio Smartwed (DSW) which adds extra aluminum to the frame in the torque points of the bike. It’s also running the Fact 9 carbon seatpost from the Venge. They build this bike for Team Rocket Espresso as track specific and release another to the public with vertical dropouts and road spacing for a full cassette. They do a limited run of the horizontal dropouts so if you want on get one as soon as they release. The helmet is the Evade II, also from Specialized. They designed this helmet with specific aerodynamics and cooling features in mind. This is a fantastic example of Specialized putting their wind tunnel to work to create a product this is functionally aero with still all the amazing safety features you would expect. My favorite bit - they designed it with a magnetic clasp. Boom, thank you Specialized. You have my chin in mind 😂
I feel like Ollie might be an art history major or art enthusiast..I am noticing him using more and more art terms lately. go ollie! awesome video thanks GCN
Hey GCN, I've been flirting with the thought of getting a track bike, if it's not already in the works, I'd suggest you guys put James et al on creating a little fixed/track intro content please.
I super want to see more track bike videos. About chain tensioning/slack, gear ratios, best position to be riding in, what training to do for criterium racing, why brakes are not allowed...etc
Yes please, more fixed wheel content as it’s very interesting and looking into getting one.
They're so much fun... Bought one earlier this year. Check out State Bicycle Co. ;)
If you buy state and go entry level make sure you get the 4130 line, also black friday is the best time to buy from them since those bikes should be on a 300 mystery sale.
For the money you can do a lot better than State. My first fixed was a State Contender, it was ok but I've moved on.
Look into the Aventon Cordoba Series, really great aluminium frames and okay components that you can upgrade down the line, if they don't suit your needs
Thank you all for giving advice, lots to think about, it shows the friendliness of the Fixie world👌
In the history of the RHC, Aluminum frames have won 27 times, Carbon 12 times, steel 6 times, and Bamboo once!
Aluminum 4 ever!!!!
Go 52 10 gear
Lol wtf... bring a panda and the bamboo bike is done for
Gives me hope for steel! 🤙🏼

Love GCN covering red hook. Keep the fixed gear content coming. It is a area of cycling it isnt covered very much.
Yeah, more RHC content please, thanks for this one GCN!
@@alantippett7602 itll be awesome if they did a rhc special coverage of riders, courses, bikes. Just how they do with the tours
WE NEED RED HOOK CRIT BACK!!!
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be competing in a Redhook Ollie. Don't think we've forgotten about your TT loss and the bet that was made just because it was on your previous channel... #neverforget
So much beauty!!! Of course we would see more videos like this, no matter the type of bike or event.
I remember Mr. Bridgewood losing a bet with one Alec Briggs wherein the stakes were Ollie competing in a Red Hook. . . Don't be a debtor Oliver.
Props to Ollie for bringing his 20th Century Art History knowledge. I’m sure you’ve done your professor proud.
That Specialized paint job is a piece of art.
Were you able to finish? What were your results?
Red hook bikes always look way hotter than world tour bikes. You missed the coolest part of that Cinelli tho. It's the new Vigorelli Shark with an aero "fin" below the BB inspired by the old Cinelli Laser. Can't wait to get my hands on one. Love how Cinellis look and handle.
Love fixed gear tech, I think the scene has the coolest bikes
Absolutely
More fixed gear content (specially track cycling), please! I REALLY wanna know how James prepared for RHC (from bike choice to training sessions and nutrition).
Prepared by doing poppers in gay bath houses.
Yes more fixed gear content please. I love how many different variations there are to riding a bike and this is just what I'm getting into lately. Recently figured I can commute using a single speed so I bought a track bike.
Love that Don Walker steel frame!! Thank you for showing off a hand made bicycle!!!
A thing about fixed gear...the art,the design, the people, the cornering, the speed and most importantly the crashes...hell yeah...no other sport as fun to watch as this.
Finally. Only took 10 years. Im pumped you guys are covering this race!!!
Thank you ollie for not calling them fixies GCN has done so on the past. It's nice to see you guys covering a Red Hook finally hope to see more fixed gear race coverage
More RHC please, thanks for this one GCN
Please more of this kind content. Fixed gear and single speed scene is very vast all over the world, also urban biking.
Cinelli vigorelli shark.....really really beautiful
Absolutely more of these bikes, track bikes and this type of racing along with track racing. Fascinating and great to watch.
These videos on Red Hook have been awesome! There’s so much energy and excitement at the race and you guys capture it really well.
Red hook crit is something I watch every year live and it’s a great experience and the culture and bikes are always amazing...it’s great you guys are expanding into this sub genre...more videos on fixed crits please!!!
really love this, looking at stuff thats super different to the usual carbon frame wheels and durace groupset of every probike ever.
That 8bar frame is beautiful.
Absolutely, definitely my favourite one from all of those
Yes, I'm savin up for one
I love riding my fixed gear bike. I used to ride a road bike. I decided to jump to a fixed gear bike as it is just much simpler. It has been around since for decades. yep definitely more of this!
Second that!!
There's so many beautiful fixed gears out there, it's great that GCN is finally starting to recognize an entire community of racers and riders.
Yes olly would be awesome to see more red hook crit type bikes on the show!! 👌🏼
FINALLY! Some fixed gear content on GCN. More please. I want to learn more about the tech, the skills, and the races! I love the simplicity of a fixed gear setup.

I dont wanted this video to stop, really. So many nice infos and great looking bikes.

Lov to see more Fixie content. Such a clean way of riding. Would like to see more of the tech side of it
I hope the Redhook comes back to London next year. It is a fantastic event.
Fixie riders are a whole different breed. You gotta respect their mad skill set to ride like that.
Absolutely, would love to see more of this! Such a refreshing change of pace from the sometimes stale production offerings.
I’m not much into fixies but those were some of the sickest looking bikes I’ve ever seen
More fixed gear & single speed content please. Both fixed gear crits & single speed CX/gravel please.
Finally some Fixed Gear Crit videos on GCN 😍
😎😎👍
Shout out for the Don Walker. I have several of them myself and loved seeing my team represented. Corks for bar ends, that's Red Hook!
Finally again some love for track and fixedgear Bikes ❤️
It was refreshing to see some track bike / fixed gear bike tech and events on the show. Definitely more of this please! :)
GCN should do a Pro Bike on Justin William's bike. He's a double national champion here in the states!
Saw him at Ladner Crit 2017 at BC Superweek when he had to borrow a female teammate's bike because CyclingBC didn't allow disc bikes yet and they were scrambling. He was the only one on his team who got to race the day and he won on the borrowed bike. He is a monster!
MORE MORE MORE on fixed gear racing and bikes!
Yes, more like this! Another Ollie stellar show!!
Haven't seen a GCN guy so excited about bike tech in some videos.

Oliie crackin out the art history. He's good our Ollie
Awesome video! I like how you guys are more and more covering urban cycling and fixed gear in particular
Yes! Please show more fixed gear racing stuff like the RHC. I'm a road crit racer who doesn't ride fixed, but I believe the fixed racing scene is underrepresented. Many road racers (including a few of my teammates) race road, track, and fixed.
I love red hook. its one hella mean race with a crash almost garunteed everytime. so brutal but so cool!
Super cool. Much more interesting than yet another carbon wonder bike with Dura Ace.
Yes more fixed gear content. Riding fixed is perfectly simple and simply perfect. Buy one. You'll learn how to be a Jedi on wheels.
Ollie coming up with the goods this week! First an Everesting and now Red Hook. Keep it coming GCN 🔔
Great video. This is where the aesthetics of bike design peaks at the moment.
Yes! Please keep up the fixed gear content. I’m definitely enjoying these bikes and videos.
Finally !! Great video guys !! Please more Fixed Gear / Track Cycling content !
Thanks Ollie! Amazing to see Fixed Gear content in the channel, keep it coming! Please, more fixies & track videos!
Would love to see more red hook crit racing. Seems really exciting
Finally, fixed gear bikes have the attention they deserve :D

6:35 A blond sinks away when noticing the camera ha ha ha ha
xD
She was just waiting for a redhook elevator and took it to a lower floor. Super cool lift tech seen here first.
A rare sighting of the wary Cinelli Foto-Bomber Bird
Good spot mate
Perhaps she wanted to get in a few squats?
Loved this! More of these type of videos PLEASE!
+1 to much more tech on fixed gear particularly with the track world cup coming ! It would be awesome because there is plenty of super cool custom tech over there too 😍
Oh, I love this! Love seeing all the custom bikes, I ride a fixed gear bike myself and I'd love to see more of it.
I remember the paint splatter effect being used on retro mountain bikes; Kona, Fat Chance and Salsa bikes come to mind.
It was cool to see you so stoked on the bikes. RHC is epic, street racing track bikes
Love seeing the breadth of road related cycling! Track bikes are how I became a damn roadie! Still jam around the Portland streets on my track bike a couple times a week! I pretend it’s for my training, but really it’s for the love.

Great, please continue coverage of fixed gear races! Pedals also an important consideration in fixed gear riding.
Fixed gear racing is brilliant! Please cover more events?
i ride one of the rainbow red hook edition allez sprint bikes and the bike gets compliments like no other, what an awesome concept
Red Hook is not the only series. It spawned many fixed gear criterium races. Many of the racers go to multiple venues, and a few add in velodrome racing.
Crit bikes always look amazing
Great vid guys, as someone who races fixed crits himself I didn't expect to learn much but you showed some really nice bikes!
Awesome behind hide the look for the red hook crit. What I really loved is the detail that you went into for the bikes. Gearing ratio 50:14 = 96.4. 28mm tyres.
more way more is needed, who doesnt like looking at sexy bikes?
Yes, more of this please.
Really liked this video, it was nice to see some slightly more customised bikes! Yes to more!

Keep it up with the fixed gear content - good video.
I can just feel the torn ACLs across the screen when those people crash on them fixies.
Yes!! More Track Bike related videos would be amazing.
first interesting gcn tech video since ages. kudos for that
That belt driven Shindelhauer looks awesome. But if I could combine the paint job of one of the other bikes with the belt, that would be perfect.
i would have never expected to hear a reference to Jason Pollock in a GCN video!!! i am pretty amazed!!!
I feel like Ollie might be an art history major or art enthusiast..I am noticing him using more and more art terms lately. go ollie! awesome video thanks GCN
