Too bad the women's race was disrupted by the men, but really like the additional text commentary throughout the race. Looking forward to many more videos. Thanks so much!
Fabulous footage, and great commentary Juliet... Goodness knows where you came in the end.... and shocking how the male riders behaved (can't them be penalised in future races)
Juliet I love your vídeos, here in Brazil the Love for bike has been growing a lot. Congratulations for your work and your Joy that infects !🌎🚴♀️💖 PS: Sorry about my English.
I would be hella pissed! Maybe do a larger gap in between men and women? 2 minutes is too little of a gap, you girls haul ass! Common sense literally went out the window for the slower men. Such a shame, that sprint would've work for you Juliet! As always, awesome video, cheers!
Yeah, I was hoping to do well in that sprint. Oh well! Two minutes was definitely too little but apparently the organisers were given a very short time slot for the guys and girls race (after we had all entered). I'd say fewer people would be a good start - 600 men is too many
It's great to see the view from the peleton. I used to ride around an open air velodrome (333 metres) with Robert, a former Australian junior road race champion, and a young woman who won a few championships in mountain bike cross country and also raced on the road with Lotto in Europe. She was in the Commonwealth Games team in 2006. We had a couple of visits from Simon Gerrans, who's training partner was one of our regulars, and David McKenzie, a Giro stage winner, who ran training sessions on the velodrome. It was exciting to ride with TdF and Giro stage winners. We did a lot of laps together, talking about stuff, and telling really bad jokes. Robert tried to teach me how to win races in the sprint at the end. It was a wonderful time. I was given a lot of info about winning a race instead of coming second. Tactics, etc. You look like a winner. Do you need some coaching in tactics and killer instinct? All the best.
Cheers Mark. It was a shame but behind the scenes (and what we didn't know at the time) the organisers of our race weren't really given enough time by the organisers of Velothon to run the race successfully. Unfortunately, that was after we had all signed up and booked flights. The alternative would have been to cancel it. Still, I hope that next year they sell fewer places in this event and have a larger gap
Juliet Elliott no worries Juliet, the onboard footage was fantastic & you looked really strong. Hopefully next year will work out more in your favour. I watched your 2016 race earlier today & that was an amazing finish 👍🏻😊
I would have been very surprised if an Australian pro rider had no proper track experience and a look at wikipedia shows that Tiffany Cromwell is no exception. Anyway, nice video (the Maratona video brought me to this channel, looking forward for more :-))
hey Juliet! I also visited Berlin for Fixed42. Awesome race. Anyway, there´s glass everywhere in Berlin because people collect them and bring them personally to recycle them for money. Is actually a great system, and better than throwing to the trash. Keep it up!
Recycling is great but when it results in the entire city being covered in glass, I'd say they need to rethink the way it's done or fine people for leaving bottles everywhere. We also recycle in the UK
Exciting ride-along. 51x15... nice. Sorry for the riders ignoring protocol. Please, register suggestions with the organizer (I tried the angry route - fell on deaf ears). Looking forward to your next ride.
It seems like it was really the fault of the race organizers. I'm sure that they had a limited window to block off those roads, but it seemed like the gap was way too small. They also might have made it more difficult to qualify for the race, so there would be fewer dropped riders.
This is the problem with fixed gear racing is that it's open to a lot of unlicenced/inexperienced riders who have never done any real road racing before so they don't understand about race etiquette - moving aside for faster riders in different Cats, not impeding the race flow, listening for cues from motorcyclists/commissaires etc. If this kind of thing happens in the road races I do, people get fines and if they refuse to pay they get their licence revoked.
You're very right. I love the fact that anyone can have a go at fixed gear races, it's one of the things that's great about it but it can be sketchy when people don't know what they're doing
Yeah, Road racing has it's own problems too - very esoteric, elitist and unwelcoming. It's cool that Fixie races are open and fun but it seems there's an organisational problem here. Mad that no one thought that the fast women would catch up to and overtake the slow men.
yep, road racing is far from perfect too. The organisation went a bit wrong at this one but the people at Rad Race are good guys so no one's holding it against them. You live and learn
The Fixed 42 was held aside the Berlin Veloton which is an amateur race over 60, 120 or 180 k. It has a creasy amount of starters, all the way from serious guys on proper race bikes down to mountain bikes, city bikes or even folding bikes. Did you run into them as well?
I started racing in 1981 (I'm a male) and even then, women were given shitty coverage and respect. Connie Carpenter and Rebecca Twigg were my heroes. They often raced with us and regularly beat many of us in crits and road races. Back then there was talk of "how to improve women's racing". Seeing this now, so many years later, makes me sick. The men should have been told to stay away from the women's pack and the women's races should be given the same clear course that the men's catagory had. I hope there is a way that your video/experience can change next years' event for the better.
So surprising to see such a big event with such poor regard to safety rules. There should have been a few exits on the right hand side of the course to allow to the moto or commissaires to force the men to the right (and exit, if necessary) so as to allow the approaching women to use the full width of the course at the sprint. Also, the photographer on the ground at 12:22 is simply too dangerous, even if it is behind the finishing line. They could change the barrier at that location or put pylons as he could be easily run over by someone sprinting to the finish behind another rider or someone who loses control. Thanks for the wonderful video capture Juliet! I'm happy they allow cameras because the footage and discussion can lead to improvements in the course and promotion of women's cycling. 4:51: "Oh hi guys. Don't mind me, I'm just heading off to my bike race!"
That's a shame about the 2 min. time gap at the start causing all of that grief. They should have started them at least an hour apart and had two separate races. Or, make it a mixed race and scrore or time the men and women separately.
Hola!!! Normalmente que tipo de desarrollo se suele llevar en este tipo de carreras... Estoy fascino! no conocía este tipo de carreras, las encuentro super interesantes!!!
I was thinking if you sneeze on that chainring it's going to bend ..somebody got ocd with the weight saving. Love the beer in hand in the synopsis. Pity not in Munich lovely Weiss beer.
What an absolute farce of race organization, that finish was painful to watch. Really frustrating to see riders not contesting a race ruining it for others, not really their fault. Race organizers fault. Great video, really enjoyed watching most of it!
It is sad to see those ignorant guys celebrating their 300th place while interrupting the finish sprint of the leading female group, damnit. I hope you had fun, though!
thanks. Yeah, been having a chat with people about how to avoid this happening again, basically we either need a longer slot or fewer men in front of us. Or both
Seems like the fitness/experience disparity was the issue. Great video though very exciting race. I always wonder what makes people gravitate towards fixies. Seems like it adds a fair bit of risk riding in such a big group brake-less! I'm gonna watch more of these. How dependant is it on your gearing selection at the start? Wouldn't an incorrect gear for the course be a complete write off? Especially with any climbing. (If fixed gear racers do climb?)
Yeah, it was partly that. Thank you. I believe fixed gear races are more accessible than road races and the scene is more welcoming and more fun!! Gearing selection is important but it's unlikely you'd choose something so wildly unsuitable that you couldn't race properly. Choosing the right gear for your riding style helps - some people spin and some people stomp a heavy gear. Fixed gear crits tend to be flat
Seeing as they were caught two minutes, there's a case to be made that they should have been in the ladies race! They wouldn't have come anywhere in that either, but it might just have given them some respect for women's cycling, which they are sadly lacking at the moment.
Sorry to see the ladies didn't get the race you deserved. Seems like there needs to be some sort of qualification to filter out the non-competitive riders. Looks as though you had a good race regardless, stuck to the front. Were you happy with your gearing choice?
Yeah, maybe, I've been trying to think about how they could do something like that. My idea was to make it more expensive - being able to afford to race doesn't necessarily make you a good rider but maybe it would deter people just wanting to 'have a go.' I was happy with the gearing, it was spot on. I went heavier than last year and the race was faster
I think, they start the men in 3 groups. First are the ones that go for the win, then a medium group and then last the one for those that just want to finish the race. Which is fair enough. They started the women after the 2nd men group this year, right? Maybe they should start them 2nd so they catch fewer dropped men and let the women have a propper race. Guess it's growing pains for rad race. They had a huge blunder in the women finals at the Last Man Standing this year which was too bad, as this is always a fun race to watch and not fair to the women racing.
proper dodgy that final sprint. if that was on the track they would at least all be stacked up on the cote out the way. the organisers need to take the dropped guys off the finishing straight, like 1km before. #notfair
yeah, it shouldn't have been allowed to happen and we were damn annoyed. It was actually pretty scary as we didn't know what those guys were about to do.
no probs, glad you enjoy them. My sponsor ASSOS reimburses me for some of my race travel expenses. I made the decision to move away from London to live somewhere cheaper and I pretty much don't go out drinking, partying or for dinner ever when I'm at home in Devon. I work and I spend pretty much all my money on racing
this would not have happened, if the race had been extended by cutting your jeans, getting a tattoo or delivering a package in between. you did great, though.
So how can we know you are not doped if you have never been tested? I have the experience that people how have tattoes don't care about their bodys anyways.
Girls ride great and appropriately and the guys that were in their way should have voluntarily dropped out way before the end so as to not interfere with the girls racing. Guys are losers.
looks like you are pretty fast why don't you just go all out and beat everybody screw the men show them girls can go insanely fast as heck win the overall or make the officials make an overall category

Thanks Colin, glad you liked it
Why not, you will bitch if only men race, piss off & good for them, equality bitches.
How frustrating this was to watch, I can't imagine how you all felt riding through that........great video as always!
Another brilliant vid. Loved the silence during the race with just the hum of the wheels. That was a nice touch. Hated those dudes.
You are a great rider and easily pull your way up to the front of the pack. Great riding! Great video!
Fabulous footage, and great commentary Juliet... Goodness knows where you came in the end.... and shocking how the male riders behaved (can't them be penalised in future races)
Juliet I love your vídeos, here in Brazil the Love for bike has been growing a lot.
Congratulations for your work and your Joy that infects !🌎🚴♀️💖
PS: Sorry about my English.
thank you, really glad you are enjoying them. I've heard there's a good scene in Brazil!
I would be hella pissed! Maybe do a larger gap in between men and women? 2 minutes is too little of a gap, you girls haul ass! Common sense literally went out the window for the slower men. Such a shame, that sprint would've work for you Juliet! As always, awesome video, cheers!

Don t be sad Juliet. it was a great race and you entuasiasm is incredible for me, you are my favorite ride in all this races!
thank you. I was mad for a couple of minutes but got over it very quickly. Thanks so much :)
That was super intense vlog! really loved the race part and really annoyed by theses men who wouldn't move out of the way.
That was a brilliant vlog Juliet, such a shame that your race was ruined by the men! Ridiculous organisation by whoever put the race on.
Cheers Mark. It was a shame but behind the scenes (and what we didn't know at the time) the organisers of our race weren't really given enough time by the organisers of Velothon to run the race successfully. You Bee's needed a Snow Plow to push those Trolls outta da way. Looked krazy good fun. Glad The Wall is Gone!!!

I even got annoyed at the end just watching it! Grrr... Two minutes at the start is just silly!
Great footage though. Really enjoyed it.
thanks for the sympathy. We were all pretty mad at the time but over it now. Glad you enjoyed it, thank you
Thanks for the super-interesting first person shot. Sorry about the guys messing up your sprint.
Great Vid! I Hope you had a great Time after the Race
Exciting ride-along. 51x15... nice. Sorry for the riders ignoring protocol. Please, register suggestions with the organizer (I tried the angry route - fell on deaf ears). Looking forward to your next ride.
Love the chick at the end "fucken guys" that accent killed me...lol
The reason why you kick ass Jules you manage to take the right Line!

Start the men's race five minutes earlier and the women's race five minutes later. That would give a 12 minute gap (5+2+5). Problem solved.

At least this year, you don't have a flat tyre and run after a wheel. Thank you for your videos
Damn, those guys are fucking jerks, that was super dangerous.

Unfair, unequal and dangerous! Fully agree with your pis... of. comment. Well done considering...Shorter the races?
thanks. Yeah, been having a chat with people about how to avoid this happening again, basically we either need a longer slot or fewer men in front of us. Or both

Beautiful !!!!!
I see a lot of sweetness in this video
Long vids like this one are great!
thanks, I was worried it was too long!
Looks like you crossed Tempelhof airport as well?
a realy good repport, too bad for the bad organisation and the stupid/bad men. But a great video thank you, bye (from Qc, Can) :)
what kind of go pro mount you have on your track bike
Sorry to see the ladies didn't get the race you deserved. Seems like there needs to be some sort of qualification to filter out the non-competitive riders. Looks as though you had a good race regardless, stuck to the front. Were you happy with your gearing choice?

i whould be pissed too. you pay good money to enter that race, so you should have a good race.

the guys that got dropped should have been pulled out of the race, supper annoying, respect the women's field. total bull shit
Thank you! Love your videos! You rock! But how do you afford to do all this? What's the secret? Hey! There's Chas Christiansen!
no probs, glad you enjoy them. My sponsor ASSOS reimburses me for some of my race travel expenses. I made the decision to move away from London to live somewhere cheaper and I pretty much don't go out drinking, partying or for dinner ever when I'm at home in Devon. awesome
Have you ever ridden on the Hillingdon Circuit??
no, never
Only just heared the starting diff was only 2 minutes, that is pretty absurd, asking for problems!
Great footage, sketchy af finish!
Why do you not use Oval sprockets? Way better
how many miles or km is that race ?
*!JULIET IS MY FAVORITE RIDE!*
aw, thank you!!!!
Not sure I could keep my wits about me in those tight groups.
Pretty half ass on part of the laggard guys. Once they get dropped it is just a bike ride for them. Maybe a longer time gap between the events?
some of them never intended to race, they were just along for the ride. That's why we got so angry with them
Haha just because you're a pro doesn't mean you can go 🤣🤣🤣 I love that but they are mainly pro's because they can 😀👍👍👍
Good video. Bad organisation. Sorry for you :(
Awesome....
and you finished in what place ?.. ta
8th I think
Juliet Elliott.. " i think" wow it was that caotic :)
this would not have happened, if the race had been extended by cutting your jeans, getting a tattoo or delivering a package in between. you did great, though.
Buen día perdón quería decir amigos!!!!
no tests for doping?
They dope test at Red Hook Crit but not at Rad Races
So how can we know you are not doped if you have never been tested? I have the experience that people how have tattoes don't care about their bodys anyways.
You can't know without testing.
That's a ridiculously narrow-minded statement
TypeRacing2007 ten points for the most ridiculous comment so far!
Right thou, narrow minded or not.
Hola amigos bien di@!!!!!
Girls space good, and they do not force their way through the pack. The guy riders are losers and dangerous,
LoL your boyfriend is looking at you like "Wut, you know why......oh right for the vlog".
The men holding you back =/, such dingusberries.
julliet, will you marry me?
so many wastemen
I think fixie riders need to change their rhetoric in light of the recent accident in London. Riding without a front brake is illegal and not clever.
One other thing...Could you promote cyclists using a flashing rear light even when riding in daylight. I know this isnt compulsory, but I have found that cyclists wearing dark gear and riding in wooded areas very difficult to see sometimes. With all the tints on car windows and people wearing sunglasses the chance of accidents is high. I have mentioned this to a road race marshal but all I got was a dismissive and not very proactive reply about not needing lights in daytime. Do yourselves a favour cyclists and light up... even in sunshine.
