  • James Bond made them famous. His bullet proof Aston Martin outfitted with oil slicks, retractable Browning 30 caliber machine guns, laser tire slashers, an ejection seat, missile launcher and more was a “must-have” dream car for boys around the world. When Sean Connery did in his foes -- everyone wanted to be that debonair, worldly man who could afford and handle anything but chose to drive an Aston. No one would have predicted that tractor manufacturer David Brown could transform a bankrupt Aston into a car line that was universally praised as being, “pleasing to the eye, beautifully finished and comfortable with all the performance anyone could want.” His cars became racing legends - challenging Ferraris on the track in the 1950’s and ferrying the upper crust around town. Aston Martin was revived by Ford Motor Company, then let go but is once again a world beating yet refined sports car.

    If it wasn't for Sean Connery Bond who used the Aston Martin DB5 to take out Goldfinger, then the car company would have gone to the wall for ever in the 60s

    DB7 is a very beautiful car. When I saw it back in the 90's, I had no clue what it was. I thought it was a Mazda. It seems I wasn't far off since rear taillights were Mazda, but I digress... It was a very beautiful car. Spot on proportions, tasteful, not really look-at me screaming, but just beautiful.

    Italian body with a English heart. Sounds like my perfect woman👌
    From an engineering and drivers point of view, you know it's all gone a bit soft when you are faced with a non manual gear box.

    Everybody is lamenting the exclusion of the DB5 but in all reality it was the DB7 which sold more as a single model than Aston Martins total prior production.

    Totally missed the DB5 (Bond's Goldfinger car), brief mention of the DB6, 6" longer and heavier. And no mention of the DBS V8 of the late 70' through the 80's or the Lagonda 4dr sedans 76 - 87 ?? Guess they ran into the 25 minute maximum for shows like this.

    The new Aston Martins are beautiful cars and performance to match. But the best Aston Martins were built in the 50s & 60s before Ralph Nader, Oil Embargo of 1973-1974, and government regulations.
    Car makers had a lot more freedom back then.

    Utterly disappointing!
    As an AMOC Event Chair, and owner/restorer, your video spent far too much time on Mr. Shelby, whilst missing two of the most beloved and famous models: The Most Famous Car in the World: the DB5, and the William Towns masterpiece, the DBS, also used in a Bond film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." That design was the staple chassis and body from 1967-1989! How could you miss that? No mention of Harold Beach, Tadek Marek, Dudley Gershon, nor William Towns! Loads of other disappointed viewers.
    The DB5 is so popular that the Bond producers used her in subsequent films, including the newest 2019 Bond 25 installment.
    How could you skip the DB5?
    Heresy!! Blasphemy!!

    • @jakekaywell5972
      @jakekaywell5972 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I'm glad that the producers of this video avoided Bond and the DB5 entirely. Those are well-known to the point of being cliche, especially in a documentary such as this.

      In case you're wondering, the car I do own and love is a 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk. She's no bit of Warwickshire, but she's a lovely thing with a great story too.
