My baby just turned 8 months old. She’s 17 pounds but keeps waking up at night 😭😭 she wakes up 6 times and drinks 3 times out of the 6. She won’t go back to sleep unless she gets a bottle. If I give her 2 ounces she’ll wake up 30 mins later wanting a bottle 😅 I’ll definitely try this 😭

Can you please write down the first method? English is not my first language and i am having trouble understanding the first part of the first method. Thank you!

Sure thing! So when your baby wakes at night time for the first time after going to sleep for the night you would not offer a feed, resettle your baby back to sleep another way. The next time they wake, offer a feed. The next time the wake, resettle without feeding. Essentially you alternate between resettling back to sleep and feeding. If you are consistent with this, you should start to see improvements after 3-4 nights.

Thank you for the clear and helpful video! My little one is 14.5 months and waking up every two hours overnight for the past 6+ months and I breastfeed her back to sleep each time (she sleeps in her own crib in her nursery). Most likely waking up out of a HABIT and not hunger since she eats solids and breastfeeds during the day. I want to try OPTION 1 - Any suggestions for how to "resettle" that are not going to add additional "crutches" that I then have to wean her out of? Thanks!

Hey Melissa, yes definitely sounds as though your LO is waking needing to be fed back to sleep. If you are comfortable to do so you can leave her for intervals, at the end of the interval go in and feed to calm the pop back down and give her space to settle again. Our Program can help you in depth with this process if you need.

Im doing a combination of option 1 and 2 for my 10 and a half month old. Still trying to drop to wakes to only once a night instead of twice.

Try sticking to one option to start with. So if you look at option 2 and keep reducing the amount you are offering. This will then make your Little One increase their daily calorie intake during the day and also help with dropping those night feeds.

    Hi there,
My LO is 6 months old and still takes one feed overnight, but is never interested in milk the following morning! Is this a sign mg LO doesn’t really need this overnight feed?

Hi Judith, Yes if your baby isn't interested in their first feed of the day that's is a sure sign they don't really need the feed overnight. I would try using one of the methods in this video (your preferred one) to move away from that feed.

If I reduce the amount of time for nightfeedings, lets say from 10 to 5 minutes, wont the baby wake up more often to nurse because she wasnt full after the first nightfeed?

Hi Maiken, You'd only be looking to night wean after your LO is well established on solids. Often babies will wake and take a full feed overnight even if they're not actually hungry - they know it will help them go back to sleep so it' a comfort feed really. So if you are confident it's not genuine hunger then reducing the amount / time offered shouldn't result in more wakes.

Is it aimed to age 6 months and up? Or is it effective at age 3 months?

This is really aimed at Little Ones who are well established on solid foods from 6 months onwards.

My 9 month old wants to nurse (flutter sucking) to sleep after every sleep cycle and becomes hysterical if denied the breast. Rejects a dummy and is inconsolable. I’ve let her scream in my arms shushing, cuddling, rocking for up to 30 mins before giving in and giving the breast. She ends up sleeping in my bed because I can’t keep waking up every hour 😫

Hi Katherine, Our Older Baby Program will be able to help you get on track. We have a couple of methods in our Program which allow you to be as hands on or hands off as you wish while moving away from feeding to sleep. Your LO may also be resisting it so much if her nap times and lengths aren't quite at the right times meaning she's really struggling to settle any other way.
