Thank you so much brother!!! And please don’t think that I owe you a shout out for sure. I promise that I have one planned. I’m doing my own version of your smokeless fire pit this summer and I want to let my viewers know that your video inspired me. I wanted to do it last summer but time got away from me as usual lol.
Thanks for all you videos it helped a wife drag her old man into doing something he never thought he could do, and when he did, has done four counter tops now and loves it, thanks for making it look as easy as it really is
Just discovered your site! Also impressed with Cajun country dry pour technique. LOVE you did a test of water penetration! 40 year Gen Contractor here, recently widowed💔💔now doing everything by myself - so your site is truly an inspiration! Thank you a bunch - been wanting to do concrete countertops in our barndominium in very rural Colorado. Eager to try this!
These are the kinds of videos that got you the most views glad to see its back again. Can you try doing some ones where its acid stained. That would be interesting to see. thanks
That looks like it would go great in the kitchen as a butcher block or set against the wall as the coffee station. I have used rubber strips like that for making my concrete garden benches. I wish I could get rapid set here where I live but the nearest home depot or lowe;s is over 100 miles away. Thank you again for the ideas I still have to get a polisher and pads.
That is gorgeous! No, I do not want to build my project in 19degree weather and I don't have a beautiful shop like yours but, come spring, I am inspired to build a gorgeous table like yours. Thanks!
Excellent video! My wife and I plan to make concrete window sills for our new home, dyed some sort of charcoal gray-black. This video shows it won't be so difficult after all. By the way, that Marshalltown bucket scraper is awesome! I want one! Cheers from British Columbia, Canada.
Thanks for these video's, you've inspired me! I'd like to add one note of caution when using the silicone form - if you need an exact size top, make sure you add the width of the form to the dimensions of your box. I made tops for a brick BBQ and wanted a 1/2" over-hang. luckily I realized my mistake while mounting the form and was able to rebuild the boxes to compensate for the form. Thanks again!
I switched jobs and been training for the last 3 months so I'm late to the party, but awesome videos and can't wait to see Zac builds and start building stuff again myself
Wow - that is exactly what I want for my outdoor kitchen countertop/bar. Just don't know if I have the nad's to pull it off. Never really worked with concrete before - let alone a countertop!
Hi! I love the concrete table from another video! And just couldn’t stop to watch your videos! I’m from Brazil, and absolutely loved your channel! PS.:English under construction! Haha
Thanks mike for the awesome video. Yet again you never cease to amaze me. This video did answer one of my lurking questions but was wondering if you can advise on the following questions: 1. Rapid set is a Product generally located at Home Depot. As an alternative, could you also use Quikrete concrete mix at HD? 2. What other alternative product instead of Rapid Set Mortar mix at HD could one use? 3. In the event Home Depot is not available or convenient, what concrete Mix and mortar mix could you recommend at Lowe’s? 4. Finally, can the Rapid Set FlowControl and SetControl be used with other products other that Rapid Set, such as Quikrete?
Okay, this is VERY cool. Maybe a stretch, but do you have any suggestions on finding a mold for a big outdoor table that’s ROUND? I saw your coffee table DIY, and it looks awesome, but I’m not sure they make drain pans big enough for al fresco dining😂
Michael, for a larger size...say the size of a outdoor picnic table, would suggest adding a wire mesh? Also look forward to information on how you sealed it.
Cool stuff. What if you are building a counter too large to mold and carry? I assume pour in place and trowel finish the top? Likely answered my own question!
Hi, I have 3 porch columns that I'm looking to make concrete caps poured around them with a edge like in this video. How would I build the form with a 6x6 post already in place?
Lololol, I laughed so hard when he jumped up on the table and yelled. "# old guy noises." I was rolling when he said that during his sealer video. We learn and get to laugh. Love this channel!
I’ve watched a few of your videos trying to determine the mesh you put in the countertops. Is that just a metal chicken wire type mesh? I only see plastic mesh available for purchase for concrete counters.
have you ever tried the concrete mix less than 2"? or maybe mixing the mortar mix with the concrete mix? is that a total rule braker? maybe a cool experiment. love your content, keep up the good work.
Nice video as always. Have you tried Stain-Proof Color Enhancing Sealer by DryTreat. They boast a 5 year protection. It is a penetrating sealer and does darken the concrete a bit. It is not a coating and does not really add shine. I was disappointed at the outdoor concrete countertops I had poured. You inspired me to polish them and it turned out great (with a little trial and error). I used this sealer and am exteremly happy with the final result. Thanks for the inspiration! and tutoring!!
Michael I did 16ft of kitchen countertop with rapid set concrete mix and in one section at the end I was a little short and am trying to find what slurry to make that matches without having to screen the aggregate do you know which bag is same color without the aggregate.
Great Job again. your videos are fun to watch and very informative.. thinking of trying the process for my outdoor kitchen counters. Don't think i want the natural color of the rapidset mortar. What color additive product do you suggest to get a very dark grey / Black???
Michael, thanks for the video, love the countertop and the explaination of the rapid set differences. Thanks to you i also have that bucket scraper and the mixer for the drill. (I used to use a hoe and a wheelbarrow.) Have you, and if not, could you make a coutertop for a kitchen, made in place, with an undermount sink and a faucet hole... i want to do that! Thabks a ton.
if i make an "L" shape countertop using the live edge rubbermold any suggestions on how to make that inside corner look good, thanks for the info eddie rodgers
I have 2 questions for you. 1. If I make a small table top fire pit Is there a specific sealer to use that is fire resistant? 2. To make an L shaped bar top how do you join both pieces if they can’t be made as one solid piece? Thanks again!! Great videos!!
The fire pit should have a space between the flame and the surface. Most will probably be fine. Make sure it's outdoor rated. If your flame is at an odd angle to the concrete, there are marketed sealers that claim to be excellent even for fireplaces.
@@raffikkiz thanks! My plan was to do about a shoe box sized block with a 2” x 6” sized slit to pour rubbing alcohol in to burn. Not sure how that would be with the sealant
This is so awesome Michael, I love it and how easy to get a live edge look. :) Your new shed is already seeing things come a live....🤣🤣🤣 I want to use this on my kitchen counter tops, the best part, I can do it in my cold garage, instead of waiting for warm weather. Question, can I do the river rock look through it by using less water and doing the same procedure you did with the mortar mix on the river rock bench.
Michael, I am in the process of doing an outdoor bar and kitchen. Can I use the cement all instead of the mortar or concrete mix? I saw your bird bath and it seems it would work just as well. My wife is not a fan of the exposed aggregate and she agreed to the kegerator, so you have to pick your battles.
Michael, I came across your first video not long after you posted it. Since then, my wife and I have poured vanity and table tops with great success. Question--do you think you could lay your reinforcement mesh before you add your second bucket of concrete? Just wondering if putting it in last leaves a half inch or so without any aggregate? As always--fabulous job! !
As a Milwaukee tool guy, I have no doubt that it will mix up a bucket of mortar. But why not use a corded drill? I don't needlessly run them that hard unless I have to. Also a palm sander works wonders for getting the air bubbles out if the mix once poured. And concrete will freeze even though it's set up in the cold. The water is still in the mix and will continue to get stronger over time. When it's that cold it will eventually cool down and freeze. It needs to be at least covered and not placed over frozen ground, heated if possible even.
Can’t tell you how much I’ve learned about concrete from your videos. Thank you so much for these informative gems! A question: can you color mortar mix? Trying to plan for a “mosaic” project using terrazzo glass on a previously laid concrete (Quikcrete) base. Also, do you use acrylic fortifier when you embed the glass or overlay on older concrete?
