When I found my Labrador he'd been shot with buckshot and wandered around for about a year. Then he'd been recently shot again with bird shot. I have no idea how he survived. The bone in his foot that he'd been shot with buckshot completely rotted away and just left behind the muscle and skin. I really really have no clue as to how he survived. But he did and now he's our happy tripod dog. The enraging thing is we're pretty sure who shot him. Police won't do anything but he traps and shoots dogs on his private property. Somehow my dog escaped.

@@PotterYouRotter7 as the owner of a six-year-old black lab named Luke I have to say to you how sorry I am to hear of this. All Creatures our wonderful but to me there is such an amazing courage and resilience that you find in the lab. They can be in the most terrible condition but still what is most important to them is loving you. I'm wondering where are you from that the police are not offering to assist you in stopping this man's behaviour. It is Unforgivable and must drive you crazy knowing that this is going on. I'm from Vancouver Canada and fortunately there is zero tolerance of this kind of behaviour and the penalties are Swift and harsh. Blessings to your Brave fur buddy.

@@dixierae3442 I was living in rural Georgia at the time. There are a lot of loose wild dogs out there and they do genuinely cause a danger to farm animals so some people will shoot them if they come near their livestock which I can't blame too much. But this guy that likely had my dog just shoots and traps for sick pleasure. The police said that they would have to catch him in the act to arrest him or someone would have to come forward with proof and his property is private so anyone coming forward would more likely be arrested for trespassing. I still think it's just the police not caring because we found him on the guy's truck yard that is public along the road and they know he does it and could easily show up with a warrant. It's an 800 people town and nobody cares.
Unfortunately since I posted this my sweet lab has passed away from extremely aggressive malignant cancer on the 22nd of July. I miss him a lot. He really truly was the best dog and most loving thing I've ever known. All he ever wanted in the years we had him was to be in your lap and loved. And boy did he get it. 😞💔

The dog being injured, by who knows what, is a perfect illustration of why dog owners should keep their animals leashed and in their sight any time they are off their own property. No running loose in a park where anything can happen in the blink of an eye, be it a negative encounter with another dog (or a fractious cat) on the loose, getting spooked and running off, or going into brush and bushes and having an encounter with something unknown. Keep'em leashed and by your side where you know they are safe.
