      Seems accurate, annoying, I get people trying to make money off the net but not by misrepresenting or click baiting. I'm sure his dad knew before he shelled out the $ if it was real or not. More importantly who cares if you're only gonna butcher a Pontiac legend with incorrect parts etc. Ames Performance Engineering makes everything you need to make the Goat 🐐 New and you can find basically every part for a 68 🐐 and it's clearly a driver not a trailer queen with no original drive train, color etc. We had an old saying, back in High School in the late 80s, " paint it white and sell it" because it showed less waves, bondo and the like. Too bad I was hoping to see someone asking a legit question about real Pontiac info. I have had several GTOs and could be very helpful but that's not needed because a year has passed by and No updates on this car, and putting non Pontiac parts (drive train) is bad enough but truck parts. SMH
      Oh well, IMO I just wasted some time. 😅 he sure got lots of good info. To each their own I guess opinions are like A-holes and mine is as unimportant as theirs. All I have to say, THAT'S STRAIGHT FACTS IS, THE GOAT 🐐 RULES PONTIAC #1 THE ORIGINAL MUSCLECAR. NICE WHITE 68 DON'T RUIN IT. KEEP IT ALL PONTIAC AND MAYBE THROW A 400 428 0R 455 BLOCK, IN THAT CAR AND MAKE IT A KICK ASS STREET ROD LIKE HIS DAD HAD IN THE OLD," BACK IN THE DAY" PIC. RANT OVER...✌ BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR CHANNEL MAKE THAT CASH JUST PLEASE LEAVE THE GTO OUT.OF IT. NOT A HATER. ✌ 😮😂😂

      @@angelo_giachetti "on the net for 20 years"!!!! I got my GTO in 1983 and my dad and I checked the VIN using an article in "Used Car Price Guide". Every desirable muscle car has been cloned for many years and some are so much easier than others. Many people won't even buy a Shelby Mustang unless it is in the Shelby registry with documentation all the way back to it's original owner. I know that sounds a little extreme but with that pedigree it is very hard to fake one.

    Great find on the 1968 GTO.Was glad to see the vin 242 a legit GTO. I saw a video before yours on a 68 GTO for sale and he said that Pontiac produced 87,684 GTO's in 68. Hope that helps. Great idea on the 2019 5.3 engine. I have a 1968 Pontiac Tempest Custom Coupe I'm getting her back up after in storage 25yrs. All original specially ordered 350 instead of 326. VIN Code Decoded for 1968 Pontiac GTO.
    242378 G 126790
    2 = Pontiac Make
    42 = GTO
    37 = 2 door hardtop
    8 = Model Year 1968
    G = Assembly Plant "G" for Framingham, MA
    126790 = This is the Sequential production numbers for this car. In this case, it's number 126,790 produced.
    Also, looking into "Classic Industries" car parts is a great place to start for these older cars. I have a 78 Firebird Formula T-Top that I have to hunt for parts as well, most of which I can find there. Good luck with the project car and have some fun with the old man, those should be great times spent as father and son.

I knew it was awesome just not to what extent. Unfortunately dad sold his around 95 or 96. Sold it running and driving for 800 dollars. Cousin bought it and drove it home out of state! I used to have a 68 GTO clone Le Mans. Cool car. I bought it knowing it wasn't a real GTO, just a few years ago. I don't have the car anymore, I could never afford a full restoration, but I could make it look nice and dumped all my money in it. Nothing is ever going to be perfect. I'm 25 and might sound like a boomer, but that's a clean, good looking car. Put it together and have some fun. Make some memories. I've had more fun and more "memories" in my Tacoma than any other vehicle for one. And it's just a truck. The only other car in the world for me is a '68 GTO. Enjoy it while you have it!

    Pontiac owners are very lucky. We can send off our VIN number to Pontiac Historical Services that can tell you just what THAT CAR was ordered with from the factory. What motor, what trans, what options as PHS is a Pontiac factory title company, not a fly by night outfit. I think they get 50 to 75 dollars to do a complete tracking of what YOUR car is and what all it came with from Pontiac. Also if interested, I have a 1970 Ram Air III 400 out of a Trans Am that is doing nothing but sitting in my shop. It is a YS stamping block that had a Automatic behind it.

    Nice 68 GTO I had a 68 Lemans with a 400 in it, also 65 GTO 389-4 speed 3 duces. And a 66 GTO that i ended up buying a 1968 Firebird Formal 400 H.O engine at a junk yard with 60k complete with carb, starter, exhaust manifolds, and air cleaner for $250.00 back in 1972, now that brought the ls 66 to life. Much better engine then the 389. Wish i still had them. I would LOVE to see your (lucky dad) look hard for the Pontiac 400 motor. There plenty for the motors out there yes, with a hefty price, But Keep it PMD. old Vet Tom

    I just finished restoration of my 65 GTO. Total price for sheet metal, engine rebuild, replacement of seat covers etc was over $60,000. You can not convince me that about 1/2 the 65 GTOs still in existence are not fake. I bought my 65 in 1980 for $500. Mine was the only 65 on the road for 20 mile radius at that time. It's impossible that there wasn't a reduction of them between then and say the 90s, with gas prices increasing, wrecks, junk yards crushing them for the high steel market etc. Today I know of 4 within the same radius and I see them at car shows nearly all the time.
    Years ago my brother and I searched and found quite a few "barn finds". Contrary to those youtube and TV shows, where they clean the car up and have it running in no time. 99.999% of those shows are 100% BS. Anyone who has actually restored a barn find will tell you that. Barn finds will have trashed interiors whether by rodents and or mildew. Engines, fuel lines, gas tank ,brakes etc. Can not sit for years apon years without going through and replacing nearly everything.
    Is your 68 a fake? More than likely but if the person you bought it from, or one of the previous owners, was careful swapping the serial numbers no one will know! How do I know this? I know someone who has restored muscle cars for 30 years. He's tried several times to buy my 65 before I restored it. He knew where I could scrap the body without the title or serial number. Low and behold he has restored 2 65 GTOs. No coincidence at all I'm sure.
    I'm also an old school restorer, if you're not even putting a Pontiac engine into it, let alone the original or period appropriate why do you care if it's real? It won't be a "real GTO when you're done anyway.

    So you take a 3 d printer and do a set of new Pontiac style badges that say LaGoat and carry on with all of the Gto appointments. I mean.. get a Cadillac motor from a rolled SUV and put two turbo chargers in it and have fun. Make it a LeGoat and enjoy ;-)
