I remember seeing this out of a NY City station, hosted by Officer Joe Bolton.. and I remember him explaining that it was "Satire" and explaining what satire is.. wow...I learned more from watching the Three Stooges than all those years in school....
To Jerome curly howard and larry fine and moe howard brought laughter for generations here we are laughing hysterically the howards and fine family would be proud and laughing no one close to the 3 stooges your legacy of laughter and slapstick still continues on you may be gone but not forgotten still going after these years later appreciate the memories and a good laugh cried and cried nearly died of laughter couldn't breathe and stop laughing you are loved and appreciated by thousands around the world god bless you knuckleheads keep the laughs coming old is solid pure gold way to go very impressed !!! Joe
This is a colorized version. It was actually shot in B&W. It was the first released film from Hollywood to portray/parody Hitler. I never recognized how short they were until watching this. All three, as I checked, were 5' 5" and under. Moe is listed at being 5' 3 1/2". Not having watched a Stooges film from a long long time, I am also struck by how compared to much later films that are mostly slapstick, this has a lot of clever word play and contemporary, for the time, references. One example is the "the boy's from Syracuse" referencing the 1938 musical The Boys from Syracuse. The exclamation "Beblach!" is a Yiddish word meaning "beans" When Moe is imitating Hitler speeches, he is doing it in Yiddish. At one point he says "in pupik gehabt haben" which translates to "I've had it in the bellybutton".
Thanks SO much! I was really curious as to some of those "quips"..I knew I was missing the references...SO cool that you know about those details...Thanks again!!
I wouldn't say that about many Stooges shorts (and I love the team), but in this case it's true. This film was also gutsy; it took nerve to make fun of Hitler at that time. And they did it very well.
You are wrong. Its been shown many times on MeTV Saturday evenings. EVERY night on MeTV+ at midnight they show the Stooges followed by the Little Rascals.
It's a shame the similarities between this and the states! We the people have no one to blame but ourself though we set back for 60 years and just let the government go wild!
Actually, Moe is obviously the big head of cheese. Curly is supposed to be Fatso Goring, with some Benito thrown in for his public persona. And Larry was, supposed to be, club foot Goebbels. Ribbentrop never wore tails, too proud of his military uniform. Personally, I think Larry looks more like Prime Minister Chamberlain in that getup.....but I digress.
90 years on tv and still as funny is ever.

I watched him every day. Moe would drop in for a chat. Bolton and Chuck McCann were legends.
In Ft. Worth, we had Slam Bang Theater hosted by Icy Twerp.
I’ve been watching these lugs since I was a kid and will till the day I die.
They are amazing. I used to have a huge print of all four stooges

This warned of the power of the arms-industrial complex long before Eisenhower did.
They were funny when I was 4 and now at 68😊

Remember, The Howard Brothers and Fine were JEWISH.
This was dangerous to do then.
Applies to the country now 😛

To add to the description: the Three Stooges also appeared together in 196(4?) in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World."
I love it ❤
An American movie showing big capital installing dictators for profit is so giga-based. They won't show that on TV anymore.
Mammon

I understand the parody being Hitler and Mussolini, but...is Larry supposed to be Ribbentrop???
