I agree. His one-liners, ad-libs and quick wit actually made their humor smarter. Curly is a legend but way too silly, broad and slapstick. Shemp kinda toned them down and brought a balance to their schtick.

The first time I ever saw the routine we watch with Shemp around 40:52-42:15, it was hilarious. Unbeknownst to me, it would first appear in the episode 'An Ache In Every Stake' with Curly--albeit it didn't have some of the extra stuff we see with Shemp, here. As a kid, I didn't get the "Separate 2 eggs." part, but, my dad found it hilarious--mostly because I was like "The cook book said to separate 2 eggs & that's exactly what Shemp did." & my dad was like "That's not the type of separating the cook book called for, exactly...".

He was no worse for the dangerous prank. He was an INFANT!!!

I don't know if anyone else noticed this blooper. In "of cash and hash" the robber eating in the cafe doesn't have a mustache, but soon after, in the deserted house he does. I've never seen a mustache grow that fast.
I remember when I was a kid I was confused why branding for the stooges such as logos and ads never seemed to include Shemp despite him being so important to the group. I always wanted him to be shown in the logos along with Moe Larry and Curly, but I guess they probably didn't want to cause confusion because it is called The "Three" Stooges. I still wish to see that happen one day though.
