Charlie’s friend enables him because of the trauma of watching her brother slowly starve himself. She would beg Alan to eat something, anything at all. Through Charlie, she’s feeding Alan, finally. It’s a weird, confusing thing, but it’s so, unbelievably real.

Tears aplenty. I was emotionally exhausted at the end, but I didnt mind: it was beautiful, touching and honest.

🐋Brendan Frasier brilliantly embodies a man hopeful of others but tired of himself. To be sure "The Whale" can be a difficult watch as is the case with Aronofsky's "Requiem for a dream" and "Black Swan." but to me it never came across as uncaring or exploitative. I feel this tremendous affection for Charlie and great sadness for him. If he truly believes people are capable of great generosity of heart , if he means what he says when he tells the hatefull Ellie she's an amazing person, why doesn't he want to stick around to see Ellie flourish? Why does he seem so resigned to his fate and so unwilling to do anything about it? I think Charlie's believe is that he has reached the point of no return and all he wants to do is hear a certain essay about "Moby Dick" that was written long ago and carries great meaning to him, maybe to achieve some last sort of resolution with Ellie and to make her see that beneath her cruelty, that she truly is amazing and that he simply wasn't equipped to be her father all those years ago. It's been said that literature and drama and poetry hold up a mirror to humanity, and movies certainly do that.🎭 I gotta say i'm very surprised you picked this one Maureen. The only other movie that made me cry as much as this one was Clint Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby"... and that is a great film. 💔🌿

This isn;t an enjoyable movie, but it is beautiful in its own way. And Brendan Frasier(and the lead actress too) delivered an unbelievable performance.

Part of me really wants you to watch this director’s magnum opus (Requiem for a Dream) because you feel the empathy I did, but the other part feels evil because it’s so heartbreaking

A lot of people don't realize, but at the end when he lifts off the floor was supposed to be symbolize that he died right there in front of her.

Watched this the first time by myself, in my room. I was so glad the door was closed because aside from Passion of the Christ, I audibly bawled my eyes out during this. That's the second movie to make me do that.
Still makes me tear up to this day.
