    I've been running ARB diff covers and Lube Lockers on my JK for 3 years; no issues with leaks. I recently removed the rear cover and noticed that small portions of the Lube Locker stuck to my diff housing. I put a small bead of RTV in these areas when re-installing. Given how easy it is to use a drill + wire wheel to remove old RTV, I'm not sure that the Lube Locker is really that much more of a time saver after a few years of deployment. Just thought I would pass that along.

    A rubber WIZZER Wheel on an angle grinder air tool works perfectly for cleaning those surfaces.

    Just bought the cover for my 44 front. Unfortunately, they don't make one for the 70 rear. I opted for a different company. Great video!

    You could save a lot of money by spraying Kerosene from a spray bottle. Its cleans withouth stripping the micro surface lubricants, and when its time to fill will not degrade your gear oil if any leftovers get missed.

    Too bad you have stopped JEEP mod videos, because this one on differential covers is the best that I have seen. You even gave good advice on not over torquing the bolts and what to do with the stock e walker wire harness which other videos leave out. I am a novice, no skills, but I think I can pull this off. Now off to look at some of your other JEEP videos...thumbs up and sub.

    Maybe you did this off camera or I missed it, but you’re supposed to check for proper oil level on the dipstick by aligning the old and new covers. Just so you know for sure where it’ll be on the dipstick. This is definitely on my to do list. I love the looks of the ARB.

    • @TMogo116
      @TMogo116  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking up on forums I matched what is the norm for a fully drained dana 44 and went with that plus alittle. Since the arb holds alittle more than the factory cover. The worst case is if you over filled it would leak out of the vent tubes.

    You need to open the diff and clean inside with brake cleaner and brush.

  • @231mac
    @231mac 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not picking on you, but you don't need a gear lube with a friction modifier unless you have a clutch type LSD. And the Rubicons have open diffs with E lockers. Good vid, though. I like the part where you made sure to break the filler plugs loose first. So many people make the mistake of draining then finding out they can't get the fill plug loose, lol. STRANDED!

    • @TMogo116
      @TMogo116  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      231mac really? I was told always use the friction type with any locker but whatever won’t hurt it

    • @231mac
      @231mac 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, it won't hurt anything, but you don't need it. And since most syn lubes seem to have it already, why not?

    • @TMogo116
      @TMogo116  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joey McClary yes I believe the full plug is 25 and the bolts on cover are 20

    • @christophermichaelson9050
      @christophermichaelson9050 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      25 for the diff cover bolts. Lube Locker and ARB disagree on the value; go with the ARB recommendation, which is based on the torque specs of the BOLTS themselves.

Or are you one of those kids that's gonna lie and say you have regeared when time comes to sale the jeep just to ask more $$. Running those tires you definitely need to regear..unless u just have a fully modified jeep to drive in the damn highway and show off.

    $500 to change diff covers and gear oil? For that price, you should be able to get it regeared. Some of these shops are out of control. There's a bunch of shops in NYC that claim to be "Jeep Specialists" now when just a few years ago they were Euro tuner specialists because they know Jeeps have gotten trendier...they probably figure that if you have to come into a shop to do a job my grandmother could do then you must be clueless and try to catch themselves a sucker.

      @@TMogo116 Palmdale is nice I like LA just don't like the traffic, the bay area is a little better in my opinion. It's expensive though. Hey one of the coolest joyride is riding from La Cañada Flintridge take the 2 to Big Pines, and from Big pines to the 138. Hit a right and stay on on the 138 to Crestline then cross to the 18 and hit a left at the Rim of the World. Circle on the Rim to the 330 hit right and come on down. That's a 4hour wind in the mountains from LA to San Bernadino but the view is amazing. I'm looking forward to a Can-Am Riker next year to to it in. I used to take my Honda on that route when I'd hike in LA.
