    I once had a neighbor who would turn his dog out, when he saw me outside, working in my garden. The dog would make a bee line to me, and of course, trample around in my garden. Well, my pear trees got loaded down with fruit, so I picked a pear, and threw it for the dog. She chased after it, and brought it back to me. When the neighbor seen us playing, he called his dog in, and never set her out on me again. I felt sorry for that dog.

    This works as long as the violators are sensible. If they genuinely don't care, they'll take the money or whatever offered and continue to do it or in the situation that I'm dealing with - they'll continue to have a high amount of traffic coming and going - that blast loud music from their cars at all hours of the night and early morning.

      living next to a trailer court for 44 years with my wife we have found drug pusher, hoods and illegals know if they keep the neighbors happy they can go about their business with much less cops at the door-- also works for most others who need wee bit of training just as you train a dog or horse to do what you want--

    • @exoticlady3scanines
      @exoticlady3scanines 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Good luck with that, you've found something that works for you. Me being female and trying that with males, they will be looking for some thing sexual. I tried being cordial and that does not work. What I've found that works for me, is being stern, showing them cut and dry that I'm serious and I don't tolerate any bs, period.
      Three examples: 1st, a neighbor used to rent the house across the street with his "gf/baby mother" and their daughters. There was a constant stream of noise from the yelling, music from the cars, fighting, glass breaking, etc. I tried being cordial, in turn he took it as an invitation to try to openly flirt with me. 🙄 They became backyard breeders and their dogs would constantly be out roaming the neighborhood. He'd try to intentionally agitate the pit by raking a shovel over concrete in front of it and kept it wearing weights. Him and his homies would constantly try to make open passes at me.
      2nd, another crappy neighbor that rented the house next door. He seemed to be friends with the wonderful neighbor that lived across and he'd partake in trying to openly make advances at me too. 🙄 At one point, he got a dog that he kept in the backyard and at some point he moved out and left the dog chained in the backyard - with no food or water. I ended up rescuing the damn dog being that animal control didn't come in the 3 days that I called. Such wonderful examples of mankind, those neighbors are - with all of their noise pollution and contributing to the other behavior along with his fellow homie across the street.
      The dog had been wallowing in his own fecal matter as the heavy chain had gotten tangled. Yes, great people. You cannot reason with everyone, because not everyone are civilized, some people are absolute trash and anyone that mistreats animals or kids are the most disgusting individuals. As I've observed these same low life type mistreat their kids as well, but "hey" maybe your way works for you. I choose to get them TF out of my neighborhood.
      3rd, another renter, him and his ever changing "gfs" they'd sometimes argue and fight. They'd have a constant stream of guests that would come and go at all hours blasting such wonderful music from their cars. Their house sits next to the bedrooms on my home. They were shooting guns one evening.
      4th, another one - a renter, as with most renters (not all), they have a temporary mindset and do not think about whomever lives around them, so most (not all) lack respect. It is supposed to be an older mother (60+) and her (30+) daughter renting that home, with the daughters kids, but they keep a steady stream of traffic at all hours that blast music from their cars, yell, hangout in the front yard. And don't get me started on the uncouth, lazy, disrespectful, trifling heathens teenage boys that hang out there. Those parents don't care about their disgusting kids as long as they can text them.
      So your way works for you, but it really is based on who you're dealing with and if they'll want something more from you. You being a male will have a different outcome as if you were a woman, you may not have the same outcome in dealing with idiotic, disrespectful males. And, I'd rather not coddle anyone to try to pacify bad behavior. In many instances it only begets more bad behavior.

    • @donze52
      @donze52  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I normally do not read long comments, yours I did, and must say I give you much respect and would not want you to be my enemy with that said, I think kindness and talking should be plan (A) even if you must say at the same time--- this is what I want-- "nothing more or less from you"

    • @exoticlady3scanines
      @exoticlady3scanines 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I tried talking and it has only led to constant frustration. It comes down to some people's mentality, some people are just rude and were not raised with civility. Again, your way may work for you, but that does not work for every situation. Plus I can't pretend to be cordial with anyone that lacks common respect for others. Take care.

Good laws will force people to keep it down. Freedom is not stepping on the toes of others. Civilized people do not get loud outside. Push for laws. We need more.

She was a miserable old retired woman who set up video cameras around her property to monitor her neighbors 24/7 and then sat at home all day and night thinking of ways to harass everyone in the neighborhood in any way she could by making false complaints to the police, fire dept. post office and local gov't and by filing frivolous lawsuits in which she would often hire homeless people and clean them up enough to appear in court and act as witnesses lying on her behalf. At one point a frustrated police officer investigating a dispute even hinted that a hit man might be the solution to everyones problem. But she finally sold her home and moved away there was a big party on the street!

    Lol, I remembered watching this years ago when I was thinking of a solution to a problem neighbor this week. I’m living in an otherwise quiet and peaceful neighborhood for the last year, and all of a sudden the next door neighbors kids recently got an ATV/Dune Buggy - doing short circuits down my street, subjecting my house to loud engine revs every single minute for hours a day. Your solution worked wonders!
    The only problem, you didn’t give a tutorial on how to dispose of the bodies, so I’m flustered on what to do next!?
    Just kidding ;) ... I printed out my state laws re: ATV’s on public streets and tossed in a 5 dollar bill as a sign of goodwill, mailed it anonymously. No more obnoxious noise.
    Thanks for the tips!

Behavior doesn't reward wrong behavior continuously, don't treat, then the dog will think, oh, behave bad, no treat,, do I really want the treat, let's rethink why I receive. I had my older bicycle stolen and then two night later I saw a 20 year old guy riding my pink girls bike downtown ...I went up to him and said ..that's my bike ,I'll give you $20 dollars for it back …..but if you don't take that offer and I see that bike downtown again I will make sure you cannot ride it ...He didn't give my bike back for the $20 ...so the next time,a couple of days later, I saw that bike locked to a pole downtown I superglued EVERY single screw and nut on that bike ,seat,wheels gears ect..and HIS lock …..nobody could move that bike or steal any part of it for over 3 years and the city finally cut the pole down when they did road work redesigning that block , and threw the bike away …..yea I still didn't get my bike ,but every day I walked past that bike I knew I had given that guy a chance to do the right thing and he had to look at that bike every day too ..sometimes ,the situation is a balance ,not a clear win, so I think I know what you are talking about

    • @RiffRaffMama.
      @RiffRaffMama. 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Superglue? Superglue is removable with acetone - easily purchased from any supermarket. If someone wanted to, they could quite easily have removed your bike, no worries, including yourself - because it's not like you couldn't have cut that lock off. Three years? Superglue doesn't weather well. 6 months and it would have dried and cracked and become useless, again making your bike perfectly movable.

      I have several 'bad neighbours' all with dogs, every morning they let their dogs out into their gardens before they go to work.
      As soon as one dog goes out, it barks to call to see what other dogs are out in their gardens, before long they are all barking at each other.
      It settles down after a while, but by then I am already disturbed.
      I am retired and I looked forward to not be having to wake up at 6 am, but that dream has been ruined.
      Should I go round 5 or 6 neighbours and ask them all to get up earlier to take their dogs out for a proper walk, and then offer them money to do it, I think not.
      I might get one or two to do it, but I would not be able to afford to pay them all, even if they were all in agreement.
      This plan therefore has limitations, so I am happy to listen to affordable solutions?
      ( I have moved my bedroom to the back of the house and use earplugs, but when they all join in it's really noisy, and I still get disturbed)
      I don't have a dog ( although I like them) as I measured the negatives of dog ownership as outweighing the positives, but why should I,and others , suffer the negatives of others' dogs?

      I recently retired and moved in to a somewhat rural area with a small cluster of homes (5 or 6). I have a bully neighbor who tells me what to do with my property, has been disrespectful on numerous occasions, and apparently views my kindness as a weakness.
      I don’t feel a need to be nasty and I really wish the best for the guy, however, being disrespected (and in my opinion abused) is not acceptable.
      I got him to stop his unacceptable behavior in a passive way....I found out that he put his fence illegally on our property line before we bought the property. I told another neighbor (she is the neighborhood gossiper) about this , his disrespectfulness, and my solution of putting up my own fence that he definitely wouldn’t have liked. As weeks came and went with out our usual impromptu ‘neighborly’ talks, we finally made eye contact as we were cutting our grass. I looked at him--he stared at me--I stared back without hesitation or change of expression. This exchange happened several more times in which it was obvious that I was creating and welcoming these situations. Now...he’s like a little puppy dog with his tail between his legs. Basically it was like punching a bully in his mouth but in a passive way.

      I'm not sure you understand his approach. He handed him the $20 in order to get the guy to listen to him, and also made it very clear he did not have to do anything. To get a person to listen to you with an open mind is not easy, and I'm a professional in mental health. His approach is very elegant. There is a form of therapy known as Cognitive-Behavioral, but it's all about change. This approach changed the dog-owner's behavior, but his initial offer of the $20 just to listen got the neighbor to listen from a perspective of willingness to actually hear what he was saying. It was risky, in that the neighbor could have treated him even worse, assuming he was an idiot who is throwing money away. But, it was worth the risk, and it's hard for most normal people to treat someone badly if they have a good feeling towards that person. Hence, when some person walks up to you and hands you $20 for just listening to them, it's going to be more difficult for the dog owner to just ignore the guy. It wasn't about buying him off as much as getting the person to listen / hear his problem, and change his attitude towards his neighbor.

    • @prissynonee1999
      @prissynonee1999 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what you are calling cognitive behavior, or more importantly bribery for good behavior will only work for those who are willing to have their behavior modified...where I am coming from, forced to deal with the savages of the denizen 24/7...proof can be seen on my channel. I fully understand his approach, but good neighbor policy can't be bought w/ savages, they only return with more negative behavior expecting, or demanding payment...aka welfare system is based on this ideology but gone haywire, rife w/ corruption. Btw, never cared for Skinner and his outmoded sadistic theories of conditioning and has been proven wrong w/ the advances evolutionary biology, nuerobiology & nueropsychology.

    I love this!!! I had some TERRIBLE neighbors years ago who just might have gone for a deal like this. I tried many times to talk to them about the loud music at 2 to 3:00 in the morning, to no avail. It was in a trailer park and their power meter was on the same pole with mine. One night at about 3:30, the music had been booming extra loud for over an hour. I went out and shut off their power and went back into my house with no response to their angry screaming. After a few minutes their power came back on but no music. From that point on there was never a problem with their music again. Also they were very friendly to me when they would see me outside, and there was never a mention of that night.

    Biblically I agree. Treat your neighbor as yourself. So with that being said I don't think it has much to do with the money or snow cones. It has to do with people treating people as they would want to be treated. Hate vs. Love. If your neighbor likes you he or she looks out for you. If they don't they wont. Good tips and again I think this is exactly the type of thought process we should all take a closer look at. Who knows maybe Washington will even learn how to make better decisions on our behalf as a result. Pay it forward is another one. Yall take care. May the Lord Jesus abundantly bless you with peace and wisdom. Shalom

      Hypermecha I agree with you. I stated Biblical I agree meaning that when we look into the scripture of how to treat each other we will find the answers that not only work but are justified in heaven by our Father. I even pointed out in my original comment "I don't think it has much to do with the money or snow cones". So when you said "your way of viewing it" It is unclear if you Hypermecha are addressing me or the one in the video? How many times must I forgive my brother? 7 times? Jesus said 7 x 70. I tend to ramble and I apologize if I came off as agreeing with this behavior. I am in agreement with the Scripture and what it has to say about how we are to live our lives. Dont get me wrong I am not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but i do try and hold myself accountable to the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. My Savior is Yeshua the Son of God who lived, died and rose from the dead on the third day. My goal is to align my God given potential with Gods power revealing my purpose. Blessings! Shalom

    Lived in Raleigh, NC next door to a renter. She had two BiG yapping dogs. Could not use my back deck because of their constant barking. Asked that she move them to other side of yard or take them inside for awhile. Her response....”they are dogs, they are supposed to bark”. TAPE RECORDED them. Next grill on our deck.. with yapping dogs....set tape recorder next to fence... full volume...so friggin dogs were barking at themselves. Three minutes... her damned dogs were inside. Mission accomplished. .

    Mr. Bill seems like a cool guy who knows how to deal with all kinds of people, and he makes a VERY good point. Sadly this just goes to show everyone has an angle. It also shows that if you want to be successful in life you have to give people a reason to value you. If you have something someone wants they're a slave to you...and the level of that slavery is based on HOW MUCH they need it. Just ask the guy dying of thirst on an island next to another guy with the last glass of water. The more you an leverage things in your direction the better you'll be because the easiest way for someone to get what they need is what they'll do. If they have no need of you or what you can provide they'll do what THEY Want..and most of the time it's not what you want. That's humans for ya. Now that I've done all the mental psychology on this vid, what's really interesting about this video is how normal it seems to have this many problems, and more specifically, these KINDS of problems. Shouldn't a normal life be without them for the majority of time? Or is that just my perspective from living a somewhat charmed life? I certainly don't deal with any of them, but then again I live in a nice area with cool people for the most part. But whatever.

      +donze52 That was a good video, but all of your videos are interesting to watch. But you're exactly right. "The trick is to give them a reason to do what you want them to do without making them feel forced or used". Motivators...money...power....sex....ego. It's a lot of manipulation and I have a hard time looking at the world through that lens all the time, but it is smart. The thing is..you do that long enough you start to get jaded. But....it is the way things are. As for your other video...you said something to that young man about him having sex with his father in return for what he said to you .....but the thing is...that could have led to a nasty violent scene if it had been with the wrong person. So although I appreciate you using your words to try and work the situation out, I still don't see how that wouldn't simply escalate the situation into more trouble. I guess it depends on the person and the situation....the people around etc. You seem like a happy guy though, and that's not a very common thing to see these days. God bless.

    It's just a shame that you have to pay people to act like decent human beings, anyone with more than two brain cells will know that your neighbour probably won't like your dog barking outside their bedroom window in the morning. It's just lack of common curtesy tbh.

  • @applepiebetty
    @applepiebetty 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    So basically your saying being a bad neighbor can be profitable. You seem to have a much bigger bank account then I do. There are laws for a reason, you pay officials with your tax money for a reason, use them. Violence on your part is not called for unless you are threatened at the time with violence. Nor is depleting your account. You have to teach children right from wrong, and if they are "grown self-indulgent children" then they are still in need of training. Just call me teacher.

    • @blackhood2256
      @blackhood2256 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Applepiebetty If you watch Investigation Discovery's "Fear Thy Neighbor" series, you will see that the police is basically helpless against "he says, and they say" problems and basically some end in violence. What Bill is saying, compared to what really happens out there, is really a clever "trick"; to avoid having the ire of your neighbor when you call the police on them and make the situation drag out on a long vendetta when they would try to get even on you for calling the cops on them. I promise you, even I would get even with you if you call the cops on me. Really.

    • @izzaduck8896
      @izzaduck8896 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Applepiebetty From the thoughts expressed in your post I think you'd be an awful teacher because you seem to be inflexible, unimaginative, and uninspiring and I doubt your neighbors, er pupils, would respond positively for reasons outlined by BlackHood... Donze52 has a lot more knowledge of 'what makes people tick' and a great sense of community. I didn't get the idea that being a bad neighbor can be profitable from this clip. The message I got was 'start a problematic negotiation with a positive attitude; treat the person with courtesy and speak as though you assume s/he is reasonable, and one will usually get the desired result'. Adopting a superior 'teacher - student' dialogue would definitely alienate me and you'd quickly find a defiant 'student' on your hands.

      +Izza Duck ; And you would find the authorities I already pay for at your house on a regular basis.This guy must have a big checking account to buy 20 kids expensive ice cream three times a week. I couldn't afford it once a week. I am not paying inconsiderate people to be considerate. There are noise ordnances, I would call the police, and not tell my name (you don't have to) and they would not know who did the calling, because they would be an obvious pain to everyone that was not them. Dog driving you crazy? It doesn't have to cost you $60. to get your neighbor to do what is right. I have my daughter in laws brother next to my house with 5 dogs. They bark all the time when he is gone just for fun, so I bought a $20 bird house on eBay that gives off the high frequencies that shuts them up when they bark (They will ignore it IF there is actually something to bark at). They have quite having barking contest, and I didn't have to say a word to my daughter in laws brother. It is her families inherited property since 1850. The dogs didn't have to take their bad behavior to someone else, could go outside all day, and be trained without anyone lifting a finger. This bird house will probable last forever, it is made of plastic and is small, so I just put it in my hanging basket on the tree and the foliage embraces it. They are smart and do go to the other side of his trailer now when getting barky, knowing it doesn't set off as well with the trailer blocking it, but if it bothers my daughter in law (who has 6 dogs and three grown kids living there), they can hang one out there.Paying people to stop bad behavior just encourages other bad behaviors.

      +Applepiebetty -- just for the record it was snow cones, not ice cream as I run a snow cone van for 32 years along with part time bakery at night and part time ranch work now for 42 years. but snow cones cost me 40 cents each and I sell them for 25 cents each, yep loose money but it gets me on the street close to young people to preach the words.((common sense)) and if moved by the holy spirit I preach his word as well. year round, Mr. Bill in McCook, Ne.

    • @applepiebetty
      @applepiebetty 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +donze52 ;
      I'm sorry +donz52, but "paying" for good neighbors
      is not "common sense" it's extortion.
      Rather it is your business or not.
      That is how people were treated by the mobs in NY, Chicago etc... You do
      as you please, but I am not paying someone to be nice.
      That's why kids today expect money for everything they
      do. About 40 years ago schools started
      rewarding them when they got good papers, or did something good. Now instead of them getting the feeling that
      comes from being a good person, they expect payment, which evidently they can
      get from you to further their education on being a decent person. Try just asking at first for them to please
      keep the music down.
      Sometimes the student (child or adult) must be taught that
      bad behavior brings bad consequent's, good behavior can bring complements and
      occasional gratitude in the form of a free snow cone now and then still you can
      develop friendship and respect in kind.

    The back of my yard ends on a home and a cul-de-sac. The people living on that house used to dump beer cans onto my yard when they had parties. I was getting tired of it but I'm to busy to do something about it. About two months ago one of their rabbits escape and my dog started to chase it on my yard. I grab my dog and gave them permission to catch the rabbit. In the past two months they had at least 5 big parties and I haven't found another beer can. They thrive on drama and live for starting it with people because they hate their own lives. Telling them you are annoyed about what they are doing can be the worse thing you can do sometimes. From my experience this type of person will usually “shoot them-self in the foot” somehow if you ignore them long enough.

    The thing i see wrong with this is you shouldn't need to give them anything, the only thing you need to do is talk to them about it, if they don't then you try offering them stuff or call the police on a non-emergency number. Report them as a disturbance and get the police to talk to them. Keep logs of the stuff if it keeps happening (EG. Video, Audio, Diary log,) Then report them again and say they have done this before and you have come to see them, say they have not listened to me or you and say you have proof (Thats where the video/audio stuff comes in) Eventually after this gets worse after alot of stops from the police you can eventually send them to court or get them evicted/civil order for causing multiple disturbances. Or something like that. What you did in the video is basicly showing you as soft. Hope that helps. P.S: When doing the logs try to do it so they cannot see you doing it. CCTV with audio is good, especially the CCTV types where people cannot see what direction the camera is pointing.

      thanks for wisdom but just as you train a puppy to be a life long friend so a wee bit of training and treats can do the same thing for neighbors.
      it has worked for my wife and I living here for 41 years next to this trailer court

      honor to have you watch and comment, I live in McCook, Nebraska in the same house for 41 years now with my wife.
      peaceful tactics so far have worked with neighbors. teaching new ones with treats or wee bit of cash is so strange that so far have given in and been quiet safe neighbors.
      now the cops are a different story,

      yeah the whole CCTV with audio can fall under wiretap laws which in some states/most states that I know of take very seriously, it is a felony and comes with a 25 year to life prison sentence in some states so yeah......... I really wouldn't advise it until you have explicit permission to do so..... thats basically with any audio device. The only exception to this rule and its not always true because it varies from state to state.... but you can only record video/audio of state/local police while they are performing their duties/on duty and again this isn't always true across the board so be very careful about it.

      we visited downtown Memphis, Tn. the year dallas mavericks won championship. There seemed to be beggars everywhere. one followed us cellphone in hand to beg money frim us.My mother in laws birthday, my wife and son with me. I rarely give money to beggars, I told him no, leave us alone. He was a black dude. Most all of the cops I had seen our 2 days were also black. He wouldnt leave us alone. we had to walk 1 half mile to the parking garage.I wanted to whip his ass but I knew the black cops would throw me in jail if I did. So we just kept walking. Finally He stopped following us. I shared this story with a friend back home and he said when beggars approach him he gives them $1 and then asks if he can take their picture. He said it always works. The man who paid his neighbor a deposit of $20 and another $40 later had 1 and half years of good sleep with no barkink dog. Congrats, if you r reading. Money well spent. and you didnt have pay any dines or spend 1 day in jail😀

      Alexander: You are definitely RIGHT! Peace and Quietness is my Right! When I'm home , I want peace and quiet. Your home is your castle, regardless of where you live.
      I had some neighbors shoot fireworks all through the night, past 12 am as well as after 2:am. The neighbor across the street was someone that I knew; so I got up because I couldn't sleep, went to my door and hollered to them that they needed to go inside. They didn't. I got up after time passed, got dressed and went there, woman in her thirties, her male friend, her 11 year old son, and OMG her 3 year old daughter still shooting fireworks. She stated to me we are going in in a little while. I didn't get any sleep that night and had to be at work the following morning at 8:am. I had developed a tension headache that lasted all day!
      When I got home that evening which was the next day; I worked in my yard tying up and removing small branches, weeds, vines and other cuttings., I was constantly jumping every time that a firecracker that was shot.
      When I finished ; I went to the house across the street that was shooting them.
      Two teenaged girls were the culprits. I told them that they needed to go inside. I informed them that I wasn't going to listen to that noise tonight, which was after 9pm. They continued and I called the P.O. P.,O. finally came after I called a Sergeant. P.O. , too kindly informed them that they really weren't supposed to be shooting fireworks . Culprits mammy and her lover came out, got nasty, talked nasty to me because I wanted them to know that I was SICK and TIRED of their continued noise. P.O. left and they went back to shooting them. I called P. O. again and the officer gave them an example affidavit of DISTURBING the PEACE and informed them that I would file charges if their noise continued.
      SO FAR, IT HAS BEEN PEACEFUL!!!!!! I intend to do some more things with GOOD NEIGHBORS to make this the norm as well as other issues being addressed, heard, executed and resolved !!!!!

    It's fine if you have a person who is not a nut job. I am living next to one who likes to play loud music just to harass me and he even told the cops that he will keep on doing so because he can. He also let his dog loose to poop on other's people yard including mine. He parks his boat in front of my driveway to block me and many more I don't have time to list. He uses racist slur. He uses illegal drugs, beat his wife, slashed his own daughter's tires. He is a nut job. He is also very nosy, he sticks his nose in everybody's business. So, no amount of money will solve this problem. I had many shouting match with this A-hole and I will not back down. He finally learned that he was messing with the wrong guy and now he stopped. So, sometimes you have to stand up to an A-hole whether you want to or not. I did try the polite way but it didn't work in my case, so at times you have to be rude to rude people so they know how it feels. Thanks for sharing!
