What a gem! This is such a precious evidence of her perfect and unsurpassed voice, tecinc and art!!!!!!! What a perfect version of this beautiful aria! Renée is just the best!!!!! What a perfect style of singing and what a strong passion! Really touching! I wish I could have seen more in this role! THE BEST OPERA SINGER EVER! Brava Renée!!!
So glad you enjoyed it so much! I quite agree, she was a miracle. I have many many rare recordings of hers on this channel, and am about to produce a retrospective video so you may wish to subscribe!
I will never forgive Fleming for altering her gorgeous technique and sound in the mid 90's. This is gorgeous. Her early Aminas were also PERFECT. Same with Battle, WHY CHANGE TECHNIQUE mid-career, people? Come on.
She didn't change technique per se but the sound is much more knödl-sounding as you get closer to the late 90s. It's more a style thing. And mannerisms. She began to sing EVERYTHING with this incessant cooing, sliding that she only does sparingly here, although it's still there. I suspect as she got her record deal, she felt no one could really coach her and say anything critical of her unclean singing (full of sliding and unmusical breaking up of the phrases) and so she just did what she thought everybody wanted to hear to recognize her voice from the rest.
@@smurf902 but you can hear the placement changes! Early it's all supported, everything as a large column of air. Later, it's through the nose and beyond, really changes the quality of her gooorgeous sound.
We have to consider the fact that when someone makes it big the way she did people begin asking you to sing bigger rep and want you in everything. She may have adjusted her technique to be able to accommodate her schedule and the extremely wide range of rep she began to take on. Whether that was a good decision or not is of course open to debate. We often hear early recordings of stars and think they sounded better then. They were likely only singing the roles they were perfect for at that time to build confidence and kind of put their best foot forward in rep they know they can sound amazing in. This is just my take of course.

This is perfect.
Gorgeous I agree. She sang the role only one other time in 1996. But my god, an Ilia with body in the voice and perfect trills is thrilling!
