    This video is THE most helpful longreining video I’ve seen. I’m in the process of starting my youngster and so far lunging and longreining has been a flop. Will be testing this method on Sunday as it seems far more relaxing for both horse and handler although she’s so laid back and slow she’s almost horizontal so far....

    I'll be honest, instead of a stirrup leather I just used baling twine to tie them together as I have a "breaking" saddle thats 75 years old and don't care for it too much

    This video was so helpful. I've have ridden for years but never done this before and want to do it with my new horse. You explained it all so well and really clearly thank you

    I've been long raining my cob, and he is very good but difficult to get to stand. After watching your video I tried your method of saying "aaaannndd 'horses name' Staaanndd" whilst gently pulling the reins and he stopped immediately! Brilliant! Thank you 😊🐴

    This is really interesting and helpful! I'm in the USA and I've never seen long lining done (other than on youtube, and occasionally horse movies/shows). Definitely going to try this out sometime!

      if your trainer isn’t long reining or longing, you need to find a better trainer who actually cares about foundations and not just riding.

      @@marycanary3871 Oh lunging of course, just not as much long reining/or lunging on two lines, in the US, or maybe it's a western vs. english discipline thing, rather than a US thing
      - we do a lot more round pen work, vs long reining, since the focus is on teaching voice cues and self carriage over rein cues, and constant contact.

    Hi, I've started long reigning my gelding as can't do ridden work due to injury at the moment. He dives on the grass and wont budge, i tried today with lunge whip to give him a tickle to encourage him forward but found i had too much in my hands. Have you got any tips for long reigning greedy horses who think everything is a picnic?

    Nice 👍🏻 a question if I may?? How do you stop a horse from coming in on you?? My mare faces up too much

    • @imba.hjaltalin
      @imba.hjaltalin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi persephone, I know what you mean, it is quite common. You need to pull slightly on the rein that is further away (outer rain) but if that does not wokr then you just need to use sound a lot to make sure they are not coming in, push them on if you know what I mean. It is more common that horses want to face you if they are not used to this. Here is why: They feel the reins pulling on the bridle (remember that there is constant connection to their mouth because these long reins are heavy) so they often shy away from this pressure either by stopping or facing you and coming in. You can also have a long whip with string on the end lying in the floor and pick it up when needed if the horse is closing in too much. Later the horse will usually stop doing this and this whip wont be necessary.

    I exercise the RDA ponies this way, its a really good way of getting to control a horse and see them in action at the same time.

      And relieve them of the need to compensate for the riders unintended, but inevitable infractions. Groundwork @ lunging i have loved dearly, a bond - the intimate shared pleasure of hanging, together, with my horses, my whole life. Magic.Many thanks to you for yr video.❤🐎🐎🐎🇭🇲🇭🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Quick question I'm actually trying this for the first time tomorrow not sure how this will go ... tried lunging him and hes turning in and throwing his back end out so think this might be challenging haha ... hes also very much a follower on the ground ( I seen you said about using another person to start this which I will do) what's would be your tip to the next step of that person stepping away? So hes no longer following ( if that makes sense)

    I really enjoyed your long lining demo!

    How would you go about slowing down at the trot or canter? Do you just use your voice? How would you use the lines?

    • @ellie-pm9hp
      @ellie-pm9hp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      you would slow them down the same way as in the walk to halt, or the same as when you’re riding.
      you also don’t tend to canter when long lining, only walk and trot

    My pony keeps turning around and will go in circles around me to avoid going forward :( he seems to get bored of going forward within the first 2 minutes. He does this when lunging as well. I know he’s being cheeky but are there any tips plZ? X

    Do you only long line at a walk or can you do this at a trot as well? My OTTB loves to throw her head in the air and fight contact. Everything medically has been checked she is just pushy!

    I would love to see DAY 1 with this method, without a helper. I have had a bad experience with a pony running away from me and breaking the surcingle.

  • @IDriveHackneys

    I didn’t have the sound on because I first wanted to see if you do this exercise correctly… with all due respect, you should be stationery as if lunging and not following behind the horse 👎
