Congratulations on the new bike! If I were 58 I’d be looking hard at a 1250. At 72 I’m actually looking for a lighter bike. I used my Husqvarna 701 on a 3,000 mile trip recently, it did well but I sure missed the comfort of the big GS.

Hello Sir, Many thanks for the nice video. I have a 2006 1200 GS, and I just got a Kaoko cruise control for it. But the original bolt is too short and wont screw when I put the Keoko. Could you please let me know how you fixed yours on? Thanks so much

Very nice review! T-up and subscribed. I had a 2007 R1200GS. Had to sell due to life situation. I want another bike. I am VERY VERY torn between a air /oil cooled cam-head and the ( 2014) LC GS. Reading on ADV-Rider, seems like the Alternator Stator on bikes made before 2015 go bad. This is a 2 to 4 week wait and approximately $2,500 bucks! OUCH !!! Would you consider getting a newer GS that is liquid ( water) cooled. I rode both and the LC seems so refined. It was like motorcycles from 2 different companies... is the best way I describe what I experienced. I love...LOVED the LCGS. But the thought of a stator failure is overwhelming. Maybe I am looking at it the wrong way. HELP!!!
I looked hard at the 1200 LC but never test rode one. I’m sure they’re amazing bikes. It’s not the price that’s holding me back, it’s the new technology and the fact that I’m in my mid 70s. I’ve always maintained my bikes and can handle most anything on the cam-head. If I were in my 50-60’s I’d have a new 1250GS in the garage right now. I haven’t heard of the alternator/stator issue but I haven’t followed the LC bikes lately. Cam-heads are getting older and most have high mileage, that might be something to consider. Do what you feel is right and report back, I’d like to know.
@@BlackdogADV There are a few ( cam-heads) with less than 18,000 miles. They want stupid money for the 2010 30th Anniversary edition. Like 15 to $16,000. They call them museum pieces. I test road the 2010 Cam head and the 2014 LC. It is like each bike was from a different manufacturer... is the best way I describe it. Night and day difference. If it were not for the stator issues a few have, it would be no contest. Even though the wet-head is about 25 pounds heavier, it truly feel lighter at all times! Not exactly what I'm trying to say, but close.
In your case I’d research the hell out of the alternator/stator issue and get one if it’s not a big deal. Now that you mentioned that potential problem I’ll research it also as I’m curious. Years ago I bought a 2005 GS that has servo brakes. It was common to loose the ABS function and it cost something like $2-3,000 to get it fixed. My bike was fine but that issue was always in the back of my mine so I sold it after only a few months and bought my present GS. A BMW is like a reliable, faithful wife that’s ok to look at. A Ducati is like a loud, hot, sexy wife that will probably kill you in your sleep.
@@davidfalgout7304 believe me. Buy a 2010 2012 version. Has a DOHC engine and the erogation of power is so lovely. I had a 2008 2009 with a single cam with 77 kw. The difference with DOHC IS OF ONLY 5 / 6 HP (82 kw and 5nm of torque more) but it looks totally another bike. The problem is that a full optional ADV DOHC VERSION ( 2010 2012) COSTS ALMOST LIKE A 2013 2014 LC. Probably more if with less of 50000km. My bmw dealer says that IN BERLIN they decided to stop the DOHC engine for too high production costs. And non they use that engine only for Nine t and Urban gs that do lower sell number. BUT is the same engine of 2010 2012 gs engine. Take a full opt with ABS ASC and ESA. You spend (a lot) more but you will sell better. From a Base model and a full model the difference is of 2000 e (when new more than 4000. From 14k to 18k on 2012 year). Sorry for my bad english
Hello sir, nice video! One question...do u had any problems with your legs touching the cylinder heads while riding? Im 193 cm tall and interested in the 1200 gs but im concerned with the space between legs and cylinder heads! Any thoughts? Best regards Roger Martinsen Sweden
You wont have a problem with the cylinder heads being in the way of your legs. I recommend you take a test ride. There is a reason its among the top selling bikes despite the high price tag.
no to motoz tires. don't do it. :-D personally, i've tried motoz three times and, each time, i removed after one ride. i understand that many people love motoz. ditch the mudguard. i removed mine.
Too late, I ordered the Adventure this morning. I have the Desert HT on my 701 and it’s been great. The mud guard can’t handle 500 miles of straight gravel roads. I always remove it first when I depart on an epic trip.
STick with the 07’s best all round tyre i have found on mine (2011 r12oogs) works well on shingle and dirt roads and still works remarkably well on road
Have two of these BMW r 2000 one an o6 the second an o7. The 06 has 40,000 kms the 07 has 80,000. Plus an 07 Suzuki vstrom 650with 90,000 kilos. One BMW dropped an exhasst valve and destroyed the right hand cylinder plus abs failed plus fuel pump controller failed, left me stranded. My second BMW 06 also had a fuel pump controller fail plus no abs plus a transmission bearing failure half way to Cape Town. My Suzuki never a failure of any sort with superior fuel economy and rider comfort. Enjoy riding the BMW bikes, however totally unreliable so I stay close to home.
Update: I just remembered that I replaced my plastic fuel line quick disconnect fitting with a metal one at 65,000 miles.

Great video.
Could you please share the contact of the guy thzt supplies modofied drive dhaft ?

@@BlackdogADV Thank you
Hello sir, nice video! One question...do u had any problems with your legs touching the cylinder heads while riding? Im 193 cm tall and interested in the 1200 gs but im concerned with the space between legs and cylinder heads! Any thoughts? Best regards Roger Martinsen Sweden
I’m only 175 CM but I have many friends your height that haven’t had any issues. I think you’ll be fine.
You wont have a problem with the cylinder heads being in the way of your legs. I recommend you take a test ride. There is a reason its among the top selling bikes despite the high price tag.
I had a 2009. 6 to Approximately 42000. Swiss army knife of motorcycles
I am 65 and just bought my first ADV. Looking forward to some fun rides with my bride, too.
Good for you! When I was 70 and my wife 73 we rode the BMW to Inuvik (near the Arctic Ocean) and back.
Hello. Can you please tell me what's the normal oil consumption of this engine?
My bike normally will make it between oil changes (6,000 miles) without needing oil.
no to motoz tires. don't do it.
@@pepelimantour3757 I have 100,000 miles on mine now, still trouble free.
Nice bike, MSgt…
Thanks! I forgot about that sticker.
