    I bought this exact bass and amp, I went with the 25W Fender Rumble, though. Now I gotta take lessons and learn how to play bass, getting a late start at age 45.

      Kevin Michael I'm 43, played guitar for 30 years now, and I just bought my first bass. Now looking for a decent practice amp, and these Rumbles look pretty good so far. It's never too late to learn some new tricks.

      Don't feel bad. I'm just starting bass at 56. I have the rumble amp and a full scale Ibanez bass, but I want the Squire SS in red and Sweetwater doesn't have it.

    i just bought my first bass. Really didn't know what I was looking for as a guitar player. I just know I wanted a jazz type neck, but a P-bass pick up. I ended up buying a Fender Duff McKagan Deluxe Artist series bass with both a jazz and p-bass pick ups and with a hip shot bass extender. I love it.

  • @VicCross
    @VicCross 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    A buddy of mine gave me both a Rumble 40 and a Squire. You are 100% correct, both great value for the money. No matter what bass I plug into the Rumble 40 it sounds amazing.

  • @Jadesayade
    @Jadesayade 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Holy shit. This was my EXACT beginner setup. Got the Jag off of Cragslist for $100 and the Rumble vs 40w for a gretsch Uke and $40.
    One week later I played my first gig. That was a fun one.
    Seriously this beginner setup is awesome, have since upgraded to a Behringer 300w ultra bass head with a Kustom 2x15 tuck and roll cab from the 70s, and a yamaha bb300. Cab and head were $100 each and the yammy was $150, all used from my local music store. If you are a beginner and need gear, go with the second. SS basses are fun, but have a distinctive sound that you may or may not like, and a 40w bass amp really isn't enough to play with a dummer in most instances.
    Love your stuff man, keep the bass love coming.

    I own this bass, I really like it, I also recommened it to a friend who then bought one. They had not recieved it yet. I was worried they would have consideration about it and maybe regret buying it. I then search around and found your video on this bass. It was great!!! Your chops on playing the bass and your comments about it were just what I needed to send my friend! There super excieted about getting it! There are aslo buying the Fender Rumble 100 (they like your presentation of the 40 watt amp as well)! So glad you kept this video up! Glad you made it in the first place, I really feel people will "Know there Gear" from your videos! Thanks for posting! Note there selling now between $300 and $350. Someone mention neck dive, I do not have this problem at all, in fact it sits totally level, well balanced.

  • @philchapman1463
    @philchapman1463 ปีที่แล้ว

    For neck dive attach a slip on SCUBA weight pouch at the bottom of your strap by your hip. Buy the SCUBA weight that you require! This advice was provided to me by Keenan Crow. Such a simple solution for neck dive!

    Ibanez Mikro is a blast! Also short scale, but 29.6" rather than 30". Ibanez Mikro is much lighter than the Fender Jaguar short scale.

    Thanks for the bass video!
    The Jaguar bass looks awesome, although I personally prefer standard scale bass guitars over shortscales.
    I picked a Squier Jazz Bass for my first bass guitar some years ago. I still love it and play it live. In my opinion, theres nothing wrong with getting a cheap (bass) guitar. Especially when personalize it and upgrade it over time. I sanded the lacquer off the neck and it plays fantastic. Maybe someday I'll put new pickups in it as well.

    Aaah pre-Harley Benton "you can't beat this" statements :) like time travel
    Now I'd say get the PJ-74 or PJ-75 (4 and 5 string PJ basses) which are $70 less than the Squier Jag but better, (especially the P pickup) and their 80W practice combo (with TEN BAND eq section)

    Man.. this video came up just after I bought a bass and amp in the past week.
    Having watched Phil semi-regularly he's mentioned short scale basses so I ended up with the Ibanez Mikro. Pots are low quality, but it's light, easy to play, sounds good & cheap. GC had a used Rumble 100 in perfect condition so I grabbed it. It really is light and sounds great too. Good advice from Phil!

    I decided to look for a bass guitar, so naturally I looked to my gear hero Phillip McKnight to see if he had any advice and of course I found this video. Apparently so did everyone else because these basses are impossible to find! That's OK though because sometimes the hunt is just as fun as the score.

    nice! When you engaged the overdrive channel it was Motorhead time!! I had a Squire Jazz bass and it was sweet. I also had an Ibanez Soundgear(cheap one, maybe $200, but still great) as my first bass and that was excellent for someone coming from guitar. I stupidly traded the Ibanez for a 5-string Squire P-bass which I THOUGHT was gonna be cool but I ended up hating.

    Although short scale basses do tend to have a more mid-rangey sound and are a bit more genial to small handed players at the outset the short scale basses do tend to lack a lot of really defined low end and are limited in other ways too, regarding strings for one. That being said, they shouldn't be discounted..

    Hi Phil, I do own this bass since some years. It's my only one. I changed strings to half rounds and the bridge pickup to a schaller, as is weak compared to the front pickup. It has only 5.2 k. I still not content with the sound. It makes a snappy scratchy noise when you dig in a bit harder. Not full and round even for back position. Any ideas? Only think I could try again would be pickup height. Greetings.
