I love dirt N Iron videos because they are always short and to the point, no excessive talking and no bullshit. straight facts, and doesn't waste time.
You have great quality videos and I enjoy how you keep it simple and give us all the info we need! Would you be able to do a video on changing your fork oil? Thanks man keep up the good work.
Thanks Joshua! I will put fork oil change video on the list, stay tuned to the channel it will come soon, perhaps couple weeks or so. Appreciate your feedback.
+Jo Money no problem, keep an eye one that valve though, check the clearance in like 10 hours or so, just to be sure. If it happens again then I would suggest to do the valve job. Good luck Jo!
I know this video is 5 yrs old but I’m new to dirt biking. I have a Yamaha tt-r230 and I was wondering if I would use the same oil you showed in the video ?
loosen the bolts that hold the fender, move it over to the right and while holding the fender in right position tighten up the bolts. If its still not aligned, you can try to make the holes in the fender slightly bigger so it will allow you to move the fender to the right. Or next option will be to get a heat gun and warm up the plastic fender (while mounted on the bike) and push it to the right and see if you can straighten it up little by little, just be careful not to heat it up too much. Fenders are not that expensive, if your bike is not too exotic, then you can easily get one for $20 - $30 hope that helps
i manage to allign the fender, i have to drill bigger holes but i allign it, thanks for the tip man, i have another question, now i notice that front wheel and handlebar is not at 90 degre angle, how can i allign handlebar and front wheel?
that usually happens to me as well when I crash, but the fix is very easy. I just stop next to a tree or wall and turn the handlebars fast enough to hit the tree with the wheel, it works all the time.
have someone hold your wheel while you move the handlebars to straight it out.. but you need to hold it firm.. I always hit the tree, with the tire there is no danger of damage at all, works each time..
I need help. I held the kill switch button and kicked it a few times to drain the extra oil in the engine and then the kick starter got stuck. it wont go down at all. i have tried rocking the bike in gear back and forth and it wont clear it up. Any advise? I also have a rekluse auto clutch so i cant try to push start.
its not related to oil, something got stock on your kickstarter. shift in 5th gear and see if you can rock it around .. but you need to disable that rekluse clutch ..
@@dirtniron Thanks for the reply!!! I was able to fix it by taking the clutch cover off and the water pump cover off and by tightening/rotating the bolt that holds the water pump fan. It rotated the clutch and cleared it all up if that makes sense and now it runs great. By rotating the water pump it prevented me from having to take out the clutch or disable it. that water pump rotates with the clutch and and kick starter shaft. Thanks for the Oil change video. it helped a lot and other than that small problem made it super easy for my first time.
+James Grooms yes, I think so. Check the screw after you done. It's not good to have too much oil. Sometimes if you don't drain fully, you can have too much oil.
Dirt N Iron Alright well it's weird having a dirtbike with the oil check bolt on the side without having a glass to read but I changed mine with the filter and put 1100ml in it but scares me I don't wanna fuck the bike up if I set the bike straight up and open the oil check. Bolt nothing comes out ...but if I run it 3 mins let it cool for 2 then oil will come out the bolt. Like the manual says
Dirt N Iron you don't think that's over filling it ? I looked up manuals on the internet but idk if it's correct to my bike or what it says without filter 950ml oil and filter 1,000 ml overhaul 1100ml..... but my oil filter cover says 1100 that's what I have been so confused but you think I'm good with 1100 In it? As of rightnow
make sure your bike is straight, open the check screw and see if you have too much oil coming out, you can kinda see the flow, or how long it takes for the oil to come out. If you feel its too fast then let it drain a bit.
I have a question.. I have a 02 wr250f & oil pours out of the vent tube under my shifter.. the bike also sounds boggy & doest have power like it did... can't seem to find the answer..can anybody tell me what causes this??
Nick, it sounds like you are getting blow by at the piston, your rings seem to not be sealing properly hence the compression gets into crankcase and pushes out the oil thru your breather hose. Also you lost power at the same time... it is an older bike so I would definitely do the top end rebuild and once you are there check bottom end as well.. you might need both. good luck my friend!
Is the correct full name the t4 heavy duty Diesel engine oil doesn’t say whether it’s full synthetic/mineral or mixed I’m quite concerned because 4 strokes are NOT Diesel engines
Great video! When you clean oil strainer no. 1, is there anything you would need to take apart or just hit it with the air? From what I understand there is a magnet in there I wouldn't want to damage... Brake cleaner for extra measure?
thanks Matthew, normally I just blow air thru it and wipe it with paper towel, I dont take it apart. Next time I am doing oil change I will check if there is an easy way to take the strainer apart. I will update the comment then. it should be within a week. I guess you can use some cleaner, but make 100% sure you wipe it dry before you put it back. Personally i wont do it that way..
i have masai db 50cc 4stroke and i think my oil filling bolt is stuck, the bike is prety old but it runs great so idk if i should hcange the oil, its been used for mostly transportation (#finland)
hello mr dirt n iron, i have a suzuki rm450z 2009, and i even didnt know there is a strainer there, soo on the last oil change i didnt pull the strainer out and clen it, is that horribly wrong?
its not terribly wrong, you can do it on next oil change, its ok to do it less often, as long as you do it periodically, lets say each 12 hours (2 oil changes) it will also help you to see if you have any metal debris caught in it, helps to keep an eye on your engine..
Have you ever had an oil sample done with the shell rotella oil? I would be extremely interested in finding out how it holds up. For the money you just cant beat the price of this oil. Having done research on Rotella T, I found a lot of people using it in their four stroke mx bikes. The problem I've come to find with this oil is it lacks some essential additives that motorcycle specific oils contain. For example the zddp levels in this oil are much lower than what is in some better quality motorcycle specific oils, mainly because rotella is deigned to run in vehicles so they cut back on the zddp levels for emissions reasons. This can lead to excessive cam wear on these high performance racing engines. Also the fact that this oil shears down a weight very fast from the stresses it gets subjected to in the gearbox. However I do run this oil in a drz and my quads because it is in fact a jaso ma certified oil because of the wet clutch protection it provides. but have always been hesitant about putting this into any of my race bikes.
Cameron, I haven't done any oil sampling with Rotella. I didn't go as deep as to check all the additives and compare it other oils designed specifically for 4stroke race bikes. I did my research as well and found that many people use this oil for their bikes, also Rekluse will recommend this oil as one of their preferred if you are running their clutch. Once I talked to Sebastian Tortelli (2times world champion) and he told me that he uses this oil in all his bikes (he runs MX school) and he highly recommended it. Shell Rotella is heavy duty diesel oil, those diesel engines have very high compression and they work hard, plus they are running for several thousands miles on one oil change. So if you are doing your oil change every 4-6 hours I think you are safe with Rotella, this oil will take some abuse. Till now I haven't seen any negative comments about Rotella.
do you use a copper washer on the drain bolt underneath the engine? does your brain bolt sit dead flush with the engine casing as I'm dealing with a sheared bolt head on mine and I've tapped it out..... now I am trying to repair this but it looks like the casing on mine had a slight shoulder or rise where the bolt goes in? my question is does your bolts and washer sit flush or is yours raised like mine and sit quite aquard? please help....I need to sort this so I can go ride this weapon✊💨
Dirt N Iron hello again dude. I'm not on Facebook sorry mate. the only thing stopping me at the moment is this drain plug issue! I would have thaught the casing would be dead flat but there is just a slight knuckle on one portion of the hole. just seems as if the bolt and washer wouldn't sit flush and wouldn't be the best seal to keep the oil in. I really appreciate your help mate. thankyou....Mark☺
+taffgriff69 take pic and email me at dirtniron7@gmail.com. I would think it's supposed to be flat.. I am due for oil on my RMZ so I can check it for you.
What kind of oil is that? I don't see regular conventional. I see triple protection 15w40 CJ4 synthetic blend. Would that be good in a Yamaha yz250f? So from what I'm gathering if you go riding all day like 8 to 10 hours you should just be doing an oil change after every ride?
yes I would run it in your Yamaha, here is the one I use : www.walmart.com/ip/Shell-Rotella-T-15W-40-Heavy-Duty-Diesel-Oil-2-5-gal/54604946?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=1853&adid=22222222227000000000&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=42423897272&wl4=pla-51320962143&wl5=9031496&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=54604946&wl13=1853&veh=sem
hey, I had a question. I have a 2006 crf250r and it doesn't want to start now, I checked my valves and 3 are in spec just my right intake valve has 0 clearenance. what do you suggest?
Jo Money set the valves to correct clearance, install new spark plug, make sure you have good strong spark, clean your carburetor, specially pilot yet circuit, put new air filter and try to start it. use choke but no throttle, hope it starts, if not take the spark plug out see if it's wet, install new one and try again or even try to bump start it. that's what I would do. let me know
Exelents videos. Bro i got a question. I recently bought a brand new rmz 450 2019. I did the first oil change. My question is. Im not professional and i dont race my bike. My use its most like enduro. My use its very softly. Do i need change the oil every 6 hours? or i can use more than 6 hours. Please excuseme my english. Thanks and regreats from México.
personally i would change it more often, its safe to follow manual on that. those engines can handle full throttle, of course not cruising on highway.. give it full here and there is ok
The bikes 1st owner was a very good rider(he is 7th is supermoto league in the world) and oil was changed on 5hr and oil filter on 10hrs he is the second owner and he rider 40% less powerfull
I think compressor is not necessary, make sure you open secondary drain bolt, push the kill switch in and kick it over 5-10 times... that should take care of all the oil. I am not sure what kind of pressure will your compressor build, i wont be comfortable using it.. i think you can damage some seals if pressure is too high ..
seems to be common problem, you can shim it, it will last for some time all depends how you ride. Or maybe you are ready for new Stainless Steel valves. Definitely you need to deal with that valve clearance. Here is some useful info: www.thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/709809-no-valve-clearance-on-right-intake-valve/
I'm 14 and I have never rode a motorbike in my life ,but want to get started in dirt biking .do you think a Suzuki rmz 450 would be a good beginner bike if not what do you think would be ?
zXo Phillis oXz if you do end up getting a 250 competition bike without any motorbike experience I would be careful. I'm 14 too and i recently got a Suzuki rmz 250. I love it, it's powerful and fast but I had previous riding experience. If I were you I would first go for a trail bike such as a Yamaha ttr 230. You will learn to ride ( because it is hard in the beginning) and you will be able to appreciate the power of the race bikes later on when you're ready. Best of luck finding a dirt bike!
i would imagine most of the things are similar, I am not 100% sure though. But the procedure is almost the same, just check the manual for strainer location.
Hello question. Do I still have to do it every six hours even if I'm making it a supermoto and not riding harder than fu** Like motocross riders and it's a 2019.
I did not know about the oil strainer!!! I have rmz 250 (2008) and it has the same bolts. I haven't cleaned it! The oil is allways clean and the oil filter to, but i don't know about the stainer. What can happen?
Hello. I really love your vídeos, i think that you give good tips and a lot of good information. I have a RMX 450z and our bikes are similar. I would love if you do a vídeo changing your liquid cooler ( i think that is this the name). Thanks and continue the great work
I am sorry my friend, I dont have any videos in Portuguese. I dont really mess with fuel injection, the only thing I did was to swap the couplers to make it leaner or richer, but I like stock the most.. so I put stock back in.. I will make video about ignition couplers soon.. take care
this is what I use, I think your link is very similar. www.walmart.com/ip/Shell-Rotella-T-Triple-Protection-Heavy-Duty-Diesel-Engine-SAE-15W-40-Oil-2-5gal/14958359
Do not do not do not kick your bike to get the extra oil out. You are sucking oil out of parts of a bike that should never be without oil. Please spare your bike and just drop the drain plug and call it good.
The Suzuki manual tells you to kick it over 10 times. They built the engine and have to warranty it, so I assume they wouldn’t advise such a thing if it was detrimental.
The service manual says to hold the kill switch and work the kick starter 10 times. I've never seen that before but it's best to follow the actual manual.
thanks for comment, I would not worry about it, there is still enough oil on piston and bearings to not damage anything if you just kick it over, just make sure it does not start. Guys from Suzuki recommend to kick it over 10 times while you change the oil, to get old oil out, and I believe they know this bike inside out since they are the one who designed and built it. (you can read all that in the owners manual)
I love dirt N Iron videos because they are always short and to the point, no excessive talking and no bullshit. straight facts, and doesn't waste time.

Thats great advice bro!! I've must've changed my oil hundreds of times over the years but its nice to see a refresher vid after a long winter!! :D
thanks, appreciate your comment!
Mr. Dirt and Iron, I am a big fan of yours :)
thanks Moses, appreciate it :)
This channel help me a lot I am new to suzuki rmz450s. I thank you
I am glad it helps! :)
this person should have a lot more subs than this for the type of vids he makes

cool Jon, I am glad it helps!
Helpful video thank you... I also appreciate how you've taken the time to answer everyone's questions in the comments. Subbed...
Thanks bro, welcome on board 😉
Please make a video about using Rotella. A lot of information can be put out there about it
aww man thank you for replying back, I thought I had to do valve work for just 1 valve.Thank you so much, I'm going to order a shim kit right now

Sure, no problem. I will keep videos coming, hope you guys stay tuned ;)
Do you ever clean the screen in the stator on the oil pump?
good to do it, I did not do it very often..
How often should i change oil on 4 stroke dirt bike(crf450r 2008)
Normally ride, low rpm, not for race
I can not find the rotella T. I think they rebranded it for the rotella T4. Are you using that now?
yes, T4 15W40 since I made that video i heard more positive stuff about that oil, I am even more convinced now ;)
This helped so so much thank you! I just got an rmz 250 as my first bike and I’m loooving itttt
cool! I am glad it helps, enjoy your RMZ bro!

thanks dude

this is good oil for high power engines, thats the only thing i use for my dirt bikes

I think you are safe with shell rotella.. but following manual makes a lot of sense too
Hey what year is the rmz
2012
Can i use compressor to push all the oil out?
I think compressor is not necessary, make sure you open secondary drain bolt, push the kill switch in and kick it over 5-10 times... that should take care of all the oil. I am not sure what kind of pressure will your compressor build, i wont be comfortable using it.. i think you can damage some seals if pressure is too high ..
Isnt bad for the valves and piston if i kick it without oil in the engine?
no, its safe, but make sure you are holding kill switch in, you dont want to start the engine.
soo the piston doesnt move if you hold the kill switch?
no, piston will not stop moving, but since the engine is not running there is no heat no detonations and its pretty safe to kick it over few times..
3 are oem spec in clearance but 1. the right intake one has has 0 clearenance I can't put the feeler gauge.
seems to be common problem, you can shim it, it will last for some time all depends how you ride. Or maybe you are ready for new Stainless Steel valves. Definitely you need to deal with that valve clearance.
Here is some useful info: www.thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/709809-no-valve-clearance-on-right-intake-valve/
hey bro. same procedment for 2009 rmz 250 ?
not sure, I suggest to check the manual
2016 rmz 450 engine work in the 2006 rmz 450 ?
Probably not, not sure tho
I'm 14 and I have never rode a motorbike in my life ,but want to get started in dirt biking .do you think a Suzuki rmz 450 would be a good beginner bike if not what do you think would be ?
+zXo Phillis oXz I think 450 is bit too much. 250 4 stroke is way better option
Dirt N Iron thanks. Any suggestions on what brand of bike I should get e.g. Suzuki etc.
i like them all, dont really have a preference.. get the one you find best deal on..
Dirt N Iron thanks
zXo Phillis oXz if you do end up getting a 250 competition bike without any motorbike experience I would be careful.
What size is drain plug
i am not sure, sorry look it up on oem website
So would this be the same with a rmz250 2011 .??
i would imagine most of the things are similar, I am not 100% sure though. But the procedure is almost the same, just check the manual for strainer location.
Thanks
Dumb question, just bought 21 Rmz 450 & can find zero info on the red button next to kill switch.Have no manual.
I believe its a launch control, but don’t quote me on that.
Hello question. Do I still have to do it every six hours even if I'm making it a supermoto and not riding harder than fu** Like motocross riders and it's a 2019.
I would, maybe 10h max.. check your oil and see how it looks after 10h..
@@dirtniron alrighty thankyou I'll always check I dont have it yet remember I said I'm ordering it just waiting arrival but thankyou.
I have a defender 150 and it says change oil after 1 month, what should I do?
not sure man, do some research.. there has to be mileage or hours.
what if your bike is only electric start and you cant kick oil out
you dont have to do that, just drain as much as you can..
Thank you for a good quality video, this has been helpful. Nice bike too!
Thanks Ross, glad it helped!
so I can shim a valve that has 0 clearenance?
+Jo Money yes you can replace stock shim with thinner one so you get your clearance right.
Would this work for a 2 stroke too??
similar, 2 strokes have no oil filter and use less oil. its called gearbox oil on 2 strokes, since you are not lubricating your crank
Me buys my dirt bike brand new in 2014 and changed it in 2015 and never since and still runs perfectly fine
thats not right, but its your call
Applies for 2012?
+luis medina yes, mine is 2012
Is oil leaking bad?
it shouldnt leak..
me suzuki 450 so hard start and too hight running ,how fix?
not sure man.. its hard to tell based on your explanation
I did not know about the oil strainer!!! I have rmz 250 (2008) and it has the same bolts. I haven't cleaned it! The oil is allways clean and the oil filter to, but i don't know about the stainer. What can happen?
next time you do oil change go ahead and clean the strainer, once it gets too dirty it can restrict oil flow.. you dont want that to happen
Damn, every 6 hours
Ikr that's what I was looking at
I was actually changing my oil every 6 hours in real time due to a bad oil leak.
It was more like every 30 mins
I haven’t changed mine in a year
Hello.
I really love your vídeos, i think that you give good tips and a lot of good information.
I have a RMX 450z and our bikes are similar.
I would love if you do a vídeo changing your liquid cooler ( i think that is this the name).
Thanks and continue the great work
thanks Rui! I will put it on the list
What year is this bike?
2012
this is awesom! thank you for sharing
thanks man
this is awesome thanks
you are welcome, thanks for feedback!
Excelente video!
thanks!
tem um video progamaçao de injeçao em portugues
I am sorry my friend, I dont have any videos in Portuguese. I dont really mess with fuel injection, the only thing I did was to swap the couplers to make it leaner or richer, but I like stock the most.. so I put stock back in.. I will make video about ignition couplers soon.. take care
I always wanted a dirt bike and live in the country I'm still trying to confence my parents to get one
good luck brother!
Tell them you'll be a drug addict, if they don't buy you one
I cleaned my carb, my pilot jet was clogged couldn't even see thru it
is this the oil? www.lowes.com/pd/Rotella-128-oz-4-Cycle-15W-40-Conventional-Engine-Oil/3472487
if not can you provide me the link?
this is what I use, I think your link is very similar. www.walmart.com/ip/Shell-Rotella-T-Triple-Protection-Heavy-Duty-Diesel-Engine-SAE-15W-40-Oil-2-5gal/14958359
Do not do not do not kick your bike to get the extra oil out. You are sucking oil out of parts of a bike that should never be without oil. Please spare your bike and just drop the drain plug and call it good.
ok, thanks for sharing
Once filled and the bolts tightened you could kick it a few times holding kill switch to recirculate before restarting.
The Suzuki manual tells you to kick it over 10 times. They built the engine and have to warranty it, so I assume they wouldn’t advise such a thing if it was detrimental.
Why not just just pour a small amount of new oil in to wash it out?
The service manual says to hold the kill switch and work the kick starter 10 times. I've never seen that before but it's best to follow the actual manual.
@Blaž Benčič 10w40
he looks like obi one conobi
You musnt hit the kickstarter when your engine is out of oil, that can cause serius damage to your cilynder, piston and lower
thanks for comment,
I would not worry about it, there is still enough oil on piston and bearings to not damage anything if you just kick it over, just make sure it does not start. Guys from Suzuki recommend to kick it over 10 times while you change the oil, to get old oil out, and I believe they know this bike inside out since they are the one who designed and built it. (you can read all that in the owners manual)
You don't have to change your oil every 6 to 8 hours of riding😂
+Dj Mystery how often are you changing your oil?
Once a month on my Yamaha blaster I only drive for 5 hours at a time every Sunday so every every 20 hours
@@djmystery7235 makes sense your drive a pos quad this is a 4 stroke race bike which needs to be maintained in order to last
If you don't know how to change oil after having a dirt bike you probably shouldn't own one.
oil change is definitely essential...
Thom 1883 what about if you are a newbie to motocross and need some help and tips
like me! i just bought my first bike and need to learn how to :)
Yeah me too
Thom 1883 you too had to learn how to do that. You don't come out of the womb changing oil!
