    1: Don't kick it to get a few more dripps of oil out of it. Does more bad than good. Nicasilplating...... 2: NEVER put a dry oil filter in a dirtbike. NEVER! Soak it in motor oil for at least 10 min. That way the filter are ready to operate properly at once when you start the engine. A dry oil filter isn't. 3: Everything on a MX bike should be torqed to manufacturers spec. It's a race bike. Have a great day!!!

      oil change doesn't affect smoking, you have something else going on there, maybe blow by at the rings, burning little oil..

      @dirtniron  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      congrats!
      I am not sure about 2017 yamaha model, there might be different design that holds the filter in the place. After you put the filter in, does it feel like installing the cover will make it sit tide or would it move around?
      Check the manual, you should have pics there, if you dont have one I would call the dealer..
      consider getting the manual, its very handy..

  • @devodar2579
    @devodar2579 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No, read the manual and look at the strainer. The tube like strainer you removed in the vid comes apart, trust me I did it and it is in your manual. Also, take the cover off on the shift or Magnito side, and you will find a small round bowl type screen filter right before your oil pump. This is actually the first point of defense for straining oil particles, hence the MOST important. Great vid and thank you for the great show... But you must look at this and adjust your vid. You could accidentally damage bikes with bad info. Ask me for email if you'd like to have me clarify further

      The strainer has 2 metal clips on either end that come out with needle nose pliers and a magnet is in the middle. Soap and water and rub all the metal off the magnet then reassemble and blow dry.

    Hey man, what changes you have to make if i put race gas or fuel gas pump? I mean is there any changes in copplers or the settings in the carburetor?

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never ran a race gas, all my bikes have stock engines, no compression changes i never needed race gas and frankly I dont want to spend that much for gas. So are you sure you need race gas?
      If you decide to run it, then you might need to lean your mixture, go smaller size on your jets, possible drop needle one step down. Play with the air screw as well. If you have fuel injection like my rmz then you can use lean coupler and see how it works. I would first run it and see if my bike runs rich and then do some adjustment.

      yea, i should have used closer shot for some parts of that video.
      I usually make sure all the oil gets out, and then put in what manual recommends, follow the procedure in the video, and once the bike rested little bit, open the check screw.. there is no oil coming out if the bike is leaning to the left, once i put it straight and wait for couple seconds i see the oil coming out and then just put the screw back.. i dont wait till the oil stops coming out.. because i am quite confident that i drained everything..

    I went and read the manual on this bike, you're missing two huge parts. One, you take the strainer apart and clean it, not just blow air through it. Two, there is another metal strainer within the Magneto case. Take the case off and remove the oil pump strainer, it's very important. You should re-do your vid to get it right.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thanks for comment Devo,
      well, i do take the strainer apart, i take it out of the casing (bolt housing) and clean it well, blowing air through it is the best way to clean it, even the manual recommends that. There is no way to take it apart more. Once you take your strainer out you will see, strainer itself is just one piece
      I know about secondary strainer, you need to remove oil pump cover to clean it, I think I don't need to clean it every oil change. Its good to clean it after break in period and once you put your new top end. I am pretty confident about my oil change since I put new filter in and check one strainer, if there is too much stuff in the strainer I would definitely check secondary strainer as well, mine was very clean when I did the oil change.
      this is how I maintain my bike.
      Owners manual is great, but I don't follow it 100% every time, for example they recommend to change top end every 12 hours, oil in the forks every 6 hours, new silencer every 12 hours, etc.. pretty much as often as your oil filter.
      They recommend little too much for an average riders like us. If you race and abuse the bike all the time, then yes, follow it, but in that case you would usually get your own mechanic who would do all the work after each race/ride.

    • @taffgriff69
      @taffgriff69 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dirt N Iron that's bonkers. a new silencer every 12hrs. as an average Joe I would expect my stock 06 silencer to last year's! new packing once in a blue moon and your good to go ide say :)

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi amigo, you might have overfill the oil so the engine spit it out, or you maybe installed oil filter incorrectly and you are building too much pressure in the engine, or pinched O-ring on the filter
      take filter out and check it all, reinstall the filter.. pay attention to detail..
      check oil level with check screw after bike rested for at least 5 minutes.. if you have too much oil in, it would probably get out thru the vent..
      how much oil got out? how did it happen? is the oil still coming out or was it just one time thing?
