    I'm so lost in the Black beauty side of TH-cam ..I watched one vid that led to another and another and another.. I love how different the hair types are . So vast in style and reaction to how you girls style it , even the same hair types don't look always look similar when they are emulating the same style. I love seeing you cutting the ends to begin fresh and natural , I was Here getting hyped for you!! Lmao it's beautiful

    Honestly I went to a stylist and got the big chop.. When she turned me around I started crying no lie. I love how you had such a positive vibe about it. Now it's grown so much over the past years but I will never let my hair get as damaged as it was again :)

    I think your big chop is very evolutionary. Black woman need to more comfortable with their hair. I recently big chopped and because its summer soon i decided to wait to put braids in. All the JUDGEMENTAL comments, critiques and glares I'm getting at the moment by OTHER black women with the SAME type of hair i have is UNBELIEVABLE. Im beginning to love myself and my hair , I even dyed my afro red :) STAY natural Chevyswavey, black hair can grow!

      I don't think you should just openly disobey your parents as the other person suggest. At the end of the day you're the one who will have to be confronted by your parents regarding the decisions you make. If I were you, I would research and gather adequate information to present to your parents. Doing this will show your parents maturity and responsibility in your actions. They will see that you're serious about this subject. Find hair pictures and videos that is similar to your hair texture and length you hope to acquire. Also research information about how to take care of your hair if it were to be cut. Present all this info to your parents and explain in detail why you feel that this matter will benefit you in the long run and why its important to you! Hopefully your parents will understand and allow you this experience. Best of luck!! :)

      What most people don't notice, most of the time it's the parent who has to deal with their child's hair. If they don't wanna deal with the stress then that's completely fine.

    Your hair looks G O R G E O U S and so healthy. I love how excited you were. I am at that point now with my hair too. I've been transitioning only a few months but I'm already looking at the relaxed ends like they should not be there, some foreign thing on my head making my curls act up lol. So I think I will go to a shop and get it cut because I don't trust myself with scissors and my new growth isn't as long as yours is to be able to see. I'm scared but also just so ready for it to happen. Thanks for this video!

      Jaliyah Latrell thats exactly how i started to feel toward the end of my transition, it might be time for you! • @JaliyahLatrell
      @JaliyahLatrell 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      chevysway I big chopped on Sunday! I was surprised I didn't cry once. My hands were shaking so bad the first few cuts but after a while it felt kinda exhilarating. I'm still finding little strands here and there and as soon as I see them I cut them off but I did it myself, didn't go to the shop. I had my mom do the back I could not see. I love my curls! I love waking up for work in the morning and it's so easy to get ready and out the door. my co workers liked it, some didn't even notice really because I had been keeping it curled up tight on my head anyways with rollers. My family and friends all loved it and had really positive things to say. I don't regret it for one minute and I really thank you for this video because you made me want to do it and continue my journey natural. Thank you so much!

    Not that it's a big deal, but I'm white, and I've watched 5 Big Chop videos in the last 45 minutes, and yours is the first time I understand what it's all about! The damaged part, the relaxed, permed, flat ironed, dead, dry ends is what you're cutting off! THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME UNDERSTAND! And you're too cute!!

    • @rawbeachqi
      @rawbeachqi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Angela, aren't these big chop videos addictive? As an AA woman, I am glad YT (and the web in general) is helping the world LEARN about our hair. Unfortunately there is a false narrative about black hair being difficult: it is EASY to manage, products and human beings respecting the beauty of our hair makes the difference. For whatever reason, decision-makers in media, beauty industry, etc, are still dragging their feet in representing AA women, so we are doing it ourselves. (Yet they still want our money). Last, it is a big deal that you are white and have watched 5 Big Chop videos. 👍👍 You are educating yourself; please SHARE SHARE SHARE these vids with other white friends, family, etc. It is exhausting trying to 'teach' the world about 'us.' Plus, who does not enjoy hair and beauty vids? :-)

      @@rawbeachqi Exactly, Yes! My bff, also named Angela, has ALWAYS worn wigs, and I never understood why. I took my sew in out yesterday and the same thing happened to my hair in the back. It broke off! I was transitioning for a few months before and I was planning on cutting my hair after graduation. So today I woke up and looked in the mirror and decided it was time to chop my relaxed ends OFF. I finally did it and I feel so happy and free now! I'm so excited that I'm finally a complete natural

    I teared up a little when you cut the last bit off in the front because it looked like a huge weight was lifted off you. I just decided to go natural but I'm transitioning instead of the big chop. I'm 26 and don't even know what my natural hair looks like. Yours looks beautiful!

I'm going to my cousins house so that she can help with the back. I just big chopped my hair today and it was definitely weird seeing how short my hair is now. It's shorter than what yours is but so soft and curly; however part of my misses the length but I know that having the relaxed ends gone makes my hair healthier and allows for it to be able to grow out better with less breakage. But I'm mostly likely gonna get braids done and drink biotin and hopefully my hair will grow back out faster

    I really love natural hair and yours looks really amazing :) btw I'm transitioning but my mom doesn't agree. I got box braids about 2 weeks ago for a protective style. My mom doesn't agree with me transitioning becuz she some how thinks I can't 't take care of my natural hair and idk why she thinks that. She keeps saying when I take out my braids that I'm going to get a touch up and get a trim and I keep telling her no I'm not becuz relaxers hurt my scalp.. Like I don't know why I just can't get my hair straightened instead.. That'll be just 6 months without a relaxer down the drain again. Also this is coming from a woman who has depended on relaxers for years and now she's natural and doesn't really know how to take care of it.. I really don't want that to happen to me.. Btw sorry for the long paragraph.
    Please reply someone!

    • @discoveringthestoryoflife
      @discoveringthestoryoflife  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries! It's fine that its a paragraph. I understand where you're coming from, my mom always thought I was gonna relax throughout my transitioning stage. Other people will always have a different opinion of what works for you than the opinion you have. You just have to go with what feels right to you! I was steadfast in my decision to go natural and if you are too then just prove everyone wrong :)

    • @iJada96
      @iJada96 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your story Is just like mine when I tried to transition the first time I transitioned for a whole year and my mom pressured me to get a relaxer she said that going natural was something I could not handle and I did that was a whole entire year down the drain(wore braids the whole time) then I told myself I'm not going to get another relaxer and somehow my dedication(and I showed her women who embraced there natural hair on TH-cam)to go natural rubbed off of my mom and she big chopped before I ever did she use to always complain about how hard it was and she told me how come I never had the same problems she did being natural and I told her I did I just sticking it out and that being natural was something that I wanted now I'm fully natural and so is my mom we encourage each other and love our natural hair

    • @iJada96
      @iJada96 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol long story short show your mom that you can take care of your natural hair and love your hair and it will rub off on her encourage her to try new things with her hair as well me & my mom had this fight for years trust me it will all work out 😁😁😁😁

      What inspired me to go natural was my daughter. She transitioned for a year, I did her BC and it's been over 2 years she went natural. She's overseas now (in the army)and recently she has twists. She's 20 now. My 6 year old has hair down to the middle of her back and she's natural. When my hair was relaxed it was long, but I don't want my 6 year old to want to get her hair relaxed so I decided to go natural. Both of my girls are my inspirations to want to do it. Now it's been a year and I BC last week 11/11 and I have no regrets. My 6 year old said I look different but at the same time my hair is very thick. My mom and my 23 year old decided to go natural 2 and 3 months later respectively. Now I know so many hairstyles that I tried on my 6 year old and other women hair that are transitioning as well as doing natural hair. I took pics of my work in my iPhone and the women love my work with natural hair and they think I should open up a hair salon since I know so much about natural hair styles. I like it as a hobby. More and more people are positively commenting on my hair. My husband wasn't on board at first with the BC but 3 months after he didn't want me to do the BC, I reached my year and did it. I showed him how much length I have and how thick it is. He was shocked and surprised and he's on board now. Currently I'm still experimenting.

    • @discoveringthestoryoflife
      @discoveringthestoryoflife  9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      lalalandhigh It's not quite black people hair, because white people with curls or any race with curly hair can experience this! It's more that chemicals and heat can damage your hair which will inevitably mess up your curl pattern. my hair was relaxed, purposely made straight

    • @lalalandhigh
      @lalalandhigh 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      And how do you relax hair?

    • @OMGallSMILES
      @OMGallSMILES 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lalalandhigh you buy a relaxer from the store, grease your scalp to protect your skin and apply the relaxer to the roots (the hair closest to your scalp). of course, the smarter thing to do is to pay a professional to do your relaxer. if you go to any beauty supply, or drug store you can read the instructions on the back of any relaxer box.

    Relaxers break your hair off if you don't take care of it. You have to make sure you don't put heavy jell in your hair that will break it off. You also have to keep your hair moisturized or it will break off. I remember when I relaxed my hair and failed to moisturize it, next thing I know the front part of my hair broke off, giving me bangs. Luckily the rest didn't break off. That will be the last time I don't moisturize my hair again. I haven't relaxed my hair in over 2 years, and wear my hair natural and the ends of my hair is still very much relaxed. Luckily my hair grows very fast, so I can get my natural hair back, half of it is back already. And the part that was broke off is growing back so fast. I'm never going to relax my hair again. I like my natural better anyway. I just relaxed it for the extra length. I love my natural hair
