I’m a professional stylist and I could tell during your blow dry, you were going to probably get heat damage. When your hair is not thoroughly cleaned and there is still a lot of product in the hair, you’re bound to get heat damage. All that smoke during your blow dry was indicative of too much product in your hair. If you are using thick oils and creams in your hair when it is curly, it is hard to get a lot of that product out of the hair. I don’t know if this was your case, but it’s just some ideas. I’m sorry this happened to you 😰. Next time tho, don’t cut your hair with paper scissors, you need professional hair shears. Paper scissors cause further damage to the hair with unnecessary split ends. You look beautiful with the short cut 💇🏾‍♀️

Same happened to me, the hairdresser tried to blame it on me whereas I minimally used heat on my hair. Silk press was a once a year 'treat' and this never happened before, this one turned into a nightmare. My hair was finally long and healthy. Trying to salvage what is lost but I know I will eventually have to cut it because it is severe. Cried for a few days as well 😭😢, it just hurt to realize how much I cared for my hair and just from one time going to a hairdresser it got destroyed.

Try olaplex, and I've heard some other bond strengthening products. If getting straight hair was as easy as using to much heat, BW would have never needed relaxers to do it. Don't cut your hair unless it's your choice

I have been natural for a while and 5 years ago I had my hair straightened once a hairdressers that dealt with natural hair as well as relaxed and weaves. I ended up with heat damage. Till this day I am not sure if a heat protectant was used. Some people are lucky they can get away with it. I learnt a huge lesson straight hair is not worth it. Since then I have vowed not to straighten my hair not even blow drying. I still use hooded dryers and diffusers. I have mastered the wash and go and other styles and my hair is longer and stronger. I know people who have straightened their natural hair multiple times and eventually heat train their hair in other words they get heat damage. So I choose not to risk it. You look like a model with your TWA . Don't worry your hair will grow back stronger. Enjoy this new journey.

A few things my stylist told me:
    1. Don't keep a silk press longer than a week
    2. Don't use heat tools in between
    3. Deep condition overnight
My curls bounce back every time. I also only get a silk press once or twice a year.
Also, the stylist should specialize in natural hair. Be careful out there ladies!

    • @curlynella1011
      @curlynella1011 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I have heard of many women going to these “natural salons” and getting heat damage. You have to ask for before and after pics of clients honestly to be perfectly in the safe zone. You are lucky to find a good stylist. Once you find one, stick to him and her. Because the only person I know that hair bounces back is a woman that does it her own. I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I don’t trust anyone else but my self because everyone is getting heat damage but I don’t feel the need to straighten my hair. When I do it, I will definitely do it myself so I don’t have to blame anybody. Because most just care about sleek results and not the health of your hair 💯 In class we are taught to straighten and chemically treat the hair and not preserving the curls we have. Now you can pay for a course but many won’t and will just learn how to avoid things by testing clients.

@@curlynella1011 very good points. I've been going to the same salon since I was in high school. I've learned so much from her (she owns her business) and she treats the whole process as teachable moments. She helped me become fully natural (and embrace my 4C hair) It's really good to have this info before consultations so you can ask the right questions and judge if the stylist is right for you. Not everyone is good at doing their own hair. I've caused more damage to my hair by myself with tools (with protectants and brand new straiteners).

While it's sad what happened to your hair (I was getting stressed out on the inside just watching it since I've had my hair fall out and thin from a medical condition so I can somewhat relate to the feeling of not being able to do anything and just seeing the damage while being sad)
I have to say... that end result looked SO GOOD on you o_o ! I think that cut just helps to focus more on your face and that's definitely not a bad thing.
Your face is very pretty with the cute nose, the strong cheeks, beautiful shape, prominent lips and now we get to see your cute ears too!
All in all I just think you not only made the best out of a sad situation but turned it into something even better than it was before (in my eyes of course..maybe you prefer longer hair) And I think this video will not only be informational for others but also show them not to give up if something bad happens and how great things can get if they just stop for a moment, think and see what they can do to better the situation.

You look amazing with shorter hair, I'm sorry this happened to you still though. Something similar happened to me when my mom wanted me to get my hair pressed too soon than I was comfortable with ( had already previously got it pressed ) and the stylist both dyed and pressed my hair ( left me under one of those hair dryer things too ) and by the next day I could tell my hair was so thin and fragile, it was falling out, and I ended up just doing a big chop myself. It sucks because I spent a long time growing my hair too, just to prove that I could and now oh well! I'm proud of you for being able to move on so quickly, very inspirational.

The stylist mustve done something wrong. Usually heat damage happens over time. Heat damage after one time is strange. Either heat was too high or the heat protectant wasn’t strong enough or maybe enough of it wasn’t used. I’m sorry this happened to you. I am a straight hair natural (a month in) and I flat iron once a week on 390 degrees and I have no damage yet. I don’t mind my hair being heat trained but I do not want breakage. So I do many treatments on wash day.
I haven’t been to a salon in many many many years. I just don’t trust people in my head smh. I’d rather ruin my own head than pay someone to ruin it. I love short cuts (shaved my head a year ago) and you are beautiful.

This was not heat damage! Using a lot of serum and heat protectants will coat the hair making it not revert back unless you use a SULFATE shampoo to strip the hair. Adding layers of conditioner, masques, and protein treatments will only add buildup and prevent anything from getting to your hair strands. Hopefully next time the salon will be more educated and not so naive

I think that next time you get it straightened…you should wait a few washes ( like a few weeks )… sometimes it takes more time than a you think for it to fully revert… the short hair looks beautiful though….I was really surprised to see you start cutting it so fast… it really didn’t look too bad….I’ve held off on cutting heart damage that was bone straight wet and then still straight while it was dry… and it really will go back …. Depending on the amount of heat damage it might be limp after it curls back up (if it curls back up)
Edit: I think that sometimes the hair doesn’t go quite back to normal because it gets straightened out so well and then it stays in that “stretched” state for a few weeks so I think the hair just gets used to it… the same thing happens when I do a lot of braid out or twist outs…my curls are usually more elongated (on a much smaller scale) but after a few wash and goes the curls get really tight again

First, the short haircut is BEAUTIFUL! Second, the stylist should have stopped blow drying and immediately took you back to the shampoo bowl to clarify. When there is a lot of smoke like that, that is product cooking and frying your hair. Heat is not the enemy but it has to be used properly ladies.

I'm not a stylist, but I saw when they did multiple passes w/ the flat iron, which isn't cool. Plus, I think the flat iron was turned up too high for your hair type. Also, why was it smoking so much when they were blow drying? 1 stylist I follow says if you notice a lot of smoke while blow drying, there's still product buildup or conditioner left in the hair. The hair should be rinsed again to prevent the product from being "baked" into the strands while styling, which will cause the hair to be flat, limp, greasy, stringy, etc. I think all of these factors contributed to your results after the silk press.

This was literally in my recommendation page and I just clicked on it. I am not going to lie, watching your video took me back to when a hairstylist did a silk press on me and it turned out that bad, like exactly like yours. I was around 14 years old and I was confused, my mom was furious though. She started by having me transition my hair and after the new growth was a certain legnth (not too long might I add) she chopped it off. I remember crying because my hair was at a decent length but now it was short and my hair also grow slower than normal so yeah. Hell my mom was devastated for me, it's like she had cut all her hair off lol. Anyway sorry for the rambling just wanted to share. I'm definitely subscribing though because I feel like I might like your content. Loving the new cut.

As a 4b/c natural girl I can tell you that heat no like our hair or our hair no like the heat. I did my own blow dry, flat iron with heat protectant and a flat iron using the ghd dryer and flat iron. My hair didn’t suffer your extreme heat damage but my hair is not the same. A protein treatment ‘saved’ my hair and I just dust my ends each month until my fuller curl pattern returns because although I’ve rocked short hair plenty of times, I don’t want short hair now. You look beautiful with your new do.

You were done dirty and I’m so sorry that happened to you. I get a silk press every time I need a trim and still have tight curls. I saw another comment suggesting they didn’t properly clean your hair of product before this process and I have to agree. Smoke like that is always a bad sign. I hope you’re able to heal from this and maybe even try again with a more knowledgeable and caring stylist ❤️ Never go above 400 and always have a squeaky clean iron and hair. They didn't clarify her hair well or at all. I don't know. They smoke is coming from the product build-up on her hair. It makes the hair heavy and greasy looking. Maybe the heat was too high also. If you have fine hair, your heat should be so high.
