They are really trying to make Cyclops like he's a bad guy. since AvX he's had to stand up for his people. Avengers literally came to his home and started a war on their doorstep. No one ever helps the XMen and Scott had to realize they will kill them off if he doesn't take a stronger stance. Cyclops is the real MVP

@Psycho Pirate what? They literally showed up to a sovereign country and demanded the people of said country give up one of their citizens, who was a child. All because the avengers thought they were smarter and knew how to handle the Phoenix force instead of the group of people who had the most experience with it.
It's funny that you read cyclops as a much more aggressive character than I do. When I read him he didn't come across as the new magneto, just a guy fighting to keep the dream of a future for mutants alive, magneto dreamed of supremacy in his glory days, Cyclops never even looked to such lofty goals, he just wanted mutants to live another day. He lost his wife, his son, his chance at a normal life, his mentor, his home and then watch what he had sacrificed so much for dwindle to near nothing, yeah I'd fight the Inhumans religious ideology about there poisonous cloud to save lives.
Side note, you point out that blackbolt doesn't murder Cyclops, the mist does, but blackbolt released the mist, so yes, yes he does murder Cyclops.
Here's the way I see it. Magneto is like the Malcolm X of Mutants. Cyclops was the Martin Luther King of Mutants. Both had strong opinions, both are willing to die for those beliefs.
I never did like how they handled the death of Cyclops, I mean they put his actual death in some miniseries? Cyclops is one of the most important mutants in the Marvel Universe AND a member of the first group of X-Men you'd think we'd at least get to see him go in the main X-Men series.
I know there's young Cyclops in the comics now but that's not really the same, it feels insulting to take an important character death and go "If you want to know how that happened read THE DEATH OF X" a lot of ANAD feels like this, like a large chunk of story has just been ripped out for the purpose of creating a mystery.
Timewarpiaman I agree man. ANAD is weird and they kind of use it to fill in gaps. Cyclops, THEE XMen poster boy get a side story death and doesn't even go down in a fight! He gets sick and just dies. WTF and the whole all an illusion thing is a major cop out for lazy writing.
This problem just makes no sense whatsoever. There are so many weather and wind controllers. so many people who can hell just revert the mist back into crystal form if they desired.
This is a problem on par with no one being able to save aunt May from a gunshot wound.
This is the problem with comic book writing in general because often they think they can ignore logic and think that we wouldn't notice and often we don't because there is a level of suspension of disbelief especially when you're a younger reader but as you get older which a lot of comic readers are, that shit doesn't fly. The beauty of comics however someday a writer will elegantly explain away these mistakes away.
The real problem, is Isaac Perlmutter, the greedy asshole who doesn't give a shit about fans and what they love, he'd just happily reprocess everything in marvel to garner new audiences, and when he doesn't he'd have marvel staff do it again.
Then again, what I heard of the conditions of working at marvel now, where you don't even get toilet paper, is pretty obvious this isn't the marvel comics stan lee and jack kirby created.

dude, Layla doesn't heal, she brings the dead back to life but without a soul/moral compass. so if she brought him back, he'd be like a sociopath. also, I'd expect you to have more respect for X-factor, especially Peter David's run, and the huge amount of character development he gave that team. tired of reviewers that piss on good work. just because X-factor wasn't well received, doesn't mean it wasn't excellent writing.

When it comes to the Inhumans, i have a President Garrison motto, "Fuck em all to death." They try to make Scott out to be the bad guy, but he wasn't protecting a lethal gas, the inhumans were. Scott was right, again. And he died for it, just like he always said he would. But i'll let my wallet speak to marvel, because youtube rants won't phase them. I won't read any of the inhuman books, won't see thier movie, watch their t.v. I will boycott the Inhumans until they fade away and are classified as Obsolete. Long live Mutant-kind.

Big Durk honestly I understand why he does what he does. Scott is trying to protect him kind, and this has required him to become more violent. I personally can’t say I wouldn’t have done what he did. Hero is a subjective term, Cyclops is a leader and I respect him.

The problem is that the mist is everywhere. And inhumans would get really angry if someone destroys it. Also remember that outside the mutants and inhumans, no one really knows about the effect of the mist in mutants.

There was absolutely no reason for this story or how it went down beyond the obvious desire to try and push big mutant characters out of the lime light from Marvel.

I don't understand, what did Cyclops actually do? Folks are comparing him to Magneto but he hasn't been killing anyone. His goal was never to have Mutants take over the world. He just wanted to keep his people safe. People treated him like a villain but he never actually did anything really bad. He acted more in self defense if anything.
Because under the influence of the Phoenix, he killed Charles. Now I'm a huge Cyke fan, but Wolvie's call out on it in the aftermath of AvX is spot on. Wolvie says, "You knew this would happen. You watched it happen with Jean, and you didn't even stop. You didn't think twice. And now, Charles is dead." And it's true, if anyone should've known that the Phoenix force isn't anything to mess with, it was Scott.
That said, the reason Cyke is most like Mags, is because they were both right.
Kurt Wagner Cyclops's plan wasn't to become the Phoenix thou. Tony split it up by trying to destory it. And even then it was either let Hope take control of the Phoenix or face mutant extinction.
Kurt Wagner already explained Cyclops killing the Professor under the influence of the Phoenix Force what he missed was him ordering Wolverine to reform X-Force as a black ops team to kill any threats to mutantkind, he didn't point out that his stance on protecting mutants became more aggressive with threats to humanity, things like Utopia seemed like a line being drawn in the sand and is why Beast was angry with Scott and left Utopia and then there was the attack on the Avengers whom felt the Phoenix Force was too much a threat but Scott wanted to use it to jumpstart mutantkind. He became more of a revolutionary figure.
I hate how the biggest threat to the x men right now is a cloud of gas yet there leader can control the weather...
there was more than one Terrigen cloud. Emma solidified herself as Scott's love by turning his death into a tribute. Elixir is now able to bring people from death.
and Scott was not being unreasonable in the defense against threats to mutant existence; since none in the community of heroes work to aid the many issues mutants faced
Once again Cyclops Was Right! First and best of the X-Men, King and savior of Mutantkind. Never a villain, just a man with a vision. Uncompromising. A true hero, misunderstood by many, hated by others (haters gonna hate), by far one of the most interesting characters in the Marvel Universe. Teen Cyke is alright but he's not the real deal.
And the Inhumans really do suck. Boring as hell.
Long live Cyclops and his team. Badass Cyclops must reads: Grant Morrison's run, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men (best Cyclops ever), Bendis' Uncanny X-Men and if you have the time, Utopia.
I also recommend Lee/Kirby X-Men and everything written by Lobdell.

Inhumans are monsters, Medusa and Black Bolt should be the ones labeled as terrorists by the world and not Cyclops. Nothing Cyclops "did" here should have been labeled as Hitler, what did he ever do? The worst thing he's done was kill Charles Xavier which is so unfair because last I checked, Jean Grey had killed millions when corrupted by the Phoenix Force.
Cyclops has saved lives, he didn't deserve this, I hate Inhumans, specifically Medusa. The fact that she was willing to execute Cyclops for messing with a cloud is so frustrating, Tony should have destroyed their city.

Zeta Rise Mutants have a right to defend themselves, yes, but you can't label ALL Inhumans as villains. That literally goes against everything the X-Men comics have stood for since their first publication. Inhumans have as much right to exist as humans and mutants, you can't blame their entire species for the actions of Medusa and Black Bolt. What you CAN do is hold Medusa and Black Bolt responsible for their own actions, and go to war with them as individuals. That's why Cyclopse's whole change of character, becoming the "new Magneto" or whatever, was so stupid, because he literally turned his back on the X-Men legacy. It was a betrayal, not just of the X-Men, but of the fans who admired them. But that's less of a fault on the character, and more of a fault in Marvel itself.

Cyclops was right. Granted foghting them from the get go was a bad move, but if the Inhumane weren't going to save mutants from the Terrigen mists whose release was entirely the fault of the inhumans, then mutants don't really have much of a choice but to fight back or risk being mass murdered. Crystal and her team helping to get them away from the big cities is a decent start but it just moves it somewhere else. if mutants aren't being needlessly killed in one place, it's only another. it was nice some of the Inhumane helped but it was only a half measure.if they're not willing to fix their mess then they're complicit in the deaths of innocent people. if diplomacy wasn't working then fighting is about the last and only choice.
So all the other hero's hate cyclops because he destroyed a cloud saving many mutants, and love black bolt because instead of capturing him something he could have easily done he gunned him down without a second thought.

I read Death of X and with this video, it reminded me how all over the place this story actually was.
Characters acting completely out of their normal means, Cyclops being more and like Magneto, and then Cyclops' death which starts a war between the X-Men & The Inhumans. Wow...just wow!
And I hated how Cyclops dies and we didn't get some proper mourning from him. It wasn't just anyone that died. It was Cyclops; one was the original X-Men!

kinda seems like the inhumans were the villains here. I mean besides letting a killer cloud kill mutants so they could gain inhumans, black bolt just straight up murdered Cyclops as far as anybody knows. Sure some of it was engineered by Emma Frost but the pure aggression from the inhumans seems really suspect.
Marvel is trying to push the Inhumans hard, but they're doing an awful job at making them likeable.

If Fox returns all the marvel characters rights, I wanna know what crap story they will do to ressurect all the iconic mutants death characters. Let's be honest. For all the history and filosofy x-men has, this is way better than inhumans (sorry for my poor english, I'm brazillian).
Pretty good English, Raiden, I understand you perfectly. I wouldn't bet on X-Men returning to Marvel anytime soon, and neither do they. That's the basic reason why they've decided to wean off X-Men books. After all, all they are doing in supplying new stories and characters to a rival company. Profits on comics has always been questionable at best.
To be perfectly honest, much as I love X-Men, I am more excited to see Fantastic Four return to Marvel than anything else. Marvel needs Silver Surfer, Galactus, and the original Marvel family back for epic storylines and a more complete universe. X-Men can stay at Fox for all I care. I don't want Wolverine tainting my perfect cinematic universe, lol.
We will have more X-men books after IvX and RessureXtion. maybe this will be better:)
I agree with most of what you said except not having Wolverine there. Wolverine has a lot of depth and there is so much more content he's able to provide. Now Cyclops, besides making Cable, is to me, one of the most worthless and stupidest X-Men ever. Also, Reed Richards should admit his theft of Victor Von Dooms work, even though it will probably never be a worthwhile story that gets written. (I know it is your cinematic universe-to each his own sir :) )
Damien Lee I'm not saying Wolvie's a bad character, I just like him better in a supporting role. After starring in, count 'em, SEVEN films, I'm kinda done with him.
Cyke *IS* the X-Men. People hate him because of recent events- being largely sidelined in the films, then the whole AvX fiasco. The films won't stop bitching him out. He had no romantic scenes with Jean Grey across four films. Then he emerges as the Dark Phoenix and they have him, literally, wearing red panties. The scene in X-Men Apocalypse is a perfect example of how tired the concept of watching him lose Jean Grey to Wolvie has become. (If she doesn't like Cyke so much, why does she always get with, and stay with him?)
He's really been treated quite poorly over the last fifteen years (like most X-Men have been during Wolvie's unstoppable rise to insane popularity). Pretty much Chris Claremont's entire X-Men run has been retold in various formats with their original stars pushed aside to make more room for Wolvie. (Try to imaging Weapon X with Cyclops as the star and you'll maybe sympathize with why I want to puke whenever Wolverine has been, undeservedly, in the spotlight.)
If you want good Cyclops, try the Astonishing X-Men motion comic. You'll be glad you did.

When we had O5 X-men these series was almost cancelled... X-men survived thanks to Claremont who created new heroes, better heroes.
X-men Animated series, Evoluttion or X-men comics claremont and later...X-men were the best when they had stories about small group of mutants.
Wolverine was more popular than Scott before movies. Scott was saying don't do cool things... that was his role in TAS...

Ps: why is Havok's face still all scarred up, but Sunfire is back to his human form. They both got altered in the same issue of Uncanny Avengers. If i remember correctly, both their mutant powers got massive upgrades, at the cost(s), of half of havoc's face, alà Two-Face, and Sunfire getting an "Atomic Body"!!
Omg, I know they have issues with other companies holding "rights" over X franchise but this is just a damn mess. I completely stopped reading X titles about 11 years ago. When the started the "Blue" "Gold" teams in the 90's I was purchasing every X title. As time passed into the end of the 90's and into the 2000's I slowly stopped reading. With the death of Synch, the continuity issues, does anyone even know what happened to Mondo or Cecilia Reyes?, its just all gone to shit. The writing, the character development, dismissal of years of plot development and outright pandering in a pathetic attempt for sales have destroyed what was once the pinnacle of comic creativity. Killed off "Maggot", Why? Where is the 2nd "Thunderbird"? Bishop a baby killer? Responsible "Beast" bringing the original past to the present? Oh this is just "shit"

Got to be honest, that was an interesting ending. Emma sought to redeem Cyclops and make him a maytr is cool.
Wooow, they brutally ripped the X-men's character construction, mythos, and consistency apart. Thanks for posting this story, it explains sooo much why so many people disliked the death of X event and ragged on the story so much and it fits right with the haphazard way Marvel's been handling ANAD x-men stories so far. Jus the way they cut scene after Cyclops' death and then, the WAY they killed him offf...smh...and the pacing of the stories event and the way a lot of the characters were used, like Magneto, Storm, Sunfire, and the whole engagement of the Inhumans with the X-men I feel could have been written so much more dynamic and multi-layered, incorporating some great call backs to their history and man...ah well. This is where we are now.
Emma you are truly a gorgeous woman of comic books.
This hurts so much on a personal level, mutants represented so much for me, cyclops was a hero for me growing up, X-Men always showing us that we should be proud of who we are no matter how different from the norm we can be. But with this story, so much was shattered, Cyclops essentially killed twice over before my eyes due to the Inhumans. Is this what Marvel thinks of us now? That single act by Medusa and Black Bolt was an attack on those who find themselves being anything but straight, an attack on minorities, an attack on an idea. Medusa and Black Bolt are villains here.
I enjoyed stories like A Force a lot, but fuck Medusa being on that great team, doesn't matter anyways, book is over thanks to Civil War 2 killing it with tie ins
Cyclopes is still alive but in younger form :) and they are doing a whole x-men event with 7 xmen books next year so as always in comics this is only one chapter of a bigger picture
See, fuck that, that Cyclops is totally different than this one, he's only been an X-Men for like a few weeks, while the original has been one for longer than I've been alive. Experiences are what make us up, it doesn't matter if young cyclops is the same physically, mentally they are barely anything alike.

Actually, the T-Mist does kill non-Mutants. Most of the humans/Inhumans that undergo terringenesis do die. Marvel like to brush that to the side tho...
blackmanwithcomputer I think there is inconsistencies with it because when the Inhuman Flint undergone Terragenesis, his entire town died from it, but when Kamala Khan undergone it in a park with a bunch of people, no human died from it.

Tristan Gill RessurXion is a relaunch of most X Men books, including new series such as solo series for Cable, Iceman, and Jean Grey. The two main X Men books are gonna be called "X Men Gold" and "X Men Blue", Generation X is returning, and "Weapon X" series. I'm pretty sure the OML and All New Wolverine is gonna continue, but this is in the aftermath of IvX

I don't think anyone has noticed this but that has to be a duplicate Madrox. when the original dies the rest of the duplicates fade away and they didn't. and unless I'm misunderstanding him being there also makes 0 sense because he's supposed to be living a quiet life on a farm with his wife and children right now

The Inhumans were cool when they were Game of Thrones is fucking space. Putting them on Earth and making them X-Men 2.0 ruined them, and it's been worse since they've been pushed like crazy. They've gotten annoying as of late.

The writing does make the characters do strange things. It's very deliberate. I don't think Emma Frost would ever instigate that whole thing, and how come no one questioned why Scott was still alive for so long? The big twist at the end would've been great if it was believable.

I'm not sure if i like what Emma did. For one side it show us that she really loved Scott and she was willing to do all of this in order to continue his legacy. But for the other side, i'm sad that Cyclops' death was like this :c #CyclopsWasRight

I think the best explanation for why terrigen kills now would be rooted in Indestructible Hulk 17/18 where Banner builds a bomb to accelerate time for the cloud to spend all of it's radiation. Of course it doesn't work, and Iron Man mentions that the interaction was entirely unpredictable given how exotic terrigen is. I think that's when the mist became deadly, it would also explain how you can have the terrigen bomb go off over New York City during an alien invasion and yet have none of the mutants in New York City die off immediately.
Don't like all the 'out of character' comments, of course Storm would be a little shakier than normal .. the thing that the Inhumans controlled super secretly gets out and starts a genocide of mutants? Nah man.. that is a time to start asking questions of your former 'allies'

The reaction was way off, especially Cyclops. But because it was Emma making an illusion, it jind of makes sense. The main problem is that Cyclops would not have decided that fear and hate are an effective way to combat the Terrigen Mists. Granted, it was a heartbroken Emma's version of Scott, but people like Storm or Colossus should have known.

Emma being responsible for the whole thing could explain why people were acting out of character. She shifted their perception and ways of thinking to better fit her needs. I thought this story was whacked when I first was looking into it. But with the final revelation, it kind of puts the whole thing together.

Wow, did you ever read Peter David's X-Factor series? Vol 1,2, and 3? He's considered one of if not the definitive writer of that title. It's so underrated, his character work is excellent. Being as knowledgeable as you are, I thought you would've been familiar with Peter David.

So at the beginning of Secret Wars, a time period that runs parallel to this story, Cyclops *somehow* has a Phoenix Egg. This story should have either shown him use it or how he got it in the first place, yet does neither -_-

I did enjoy the twist with Cyclops in the end, and then going back and re-reading everything with a fresh perspective of what's really happening. That was brilliantly woven in.
it's a story of a woman standing by her man even after death. i may not like everything that happened, but if i look at it that way - the heartbreak, the tragedy, the unconditional love and devotion a woman gives to her man - i kinda like it. .

I loved this story. I usually hate the endings of comic stories because a lot of the time they end so abruptly and while this one did kill of cyclops pretty quick they gave it a nice twist ending with the memory change. As long as u add a little something like that a abrupt ending is much easier to deal with.

So...i haven't read this story arch yet. I just know what was in this video. From what i heard from rob here, the Inhumans didn't release the terragin mists to spread or even try to spread it. But you know marvel trying to Kill off the Xmen and all for whatever reason. That's gotta play into this somehow right?
What i find insulting is that the other heroes just stand aside and let the mist continue it's way while the X-men, the heroes and friends with whom they have worked in the past are dying. When the phoenix came to earth and it was the only way for the mutants to be saved of extintion the Avengers jumped to stop them because there was a chance that the phoenix acted as a destructive force. But when the inhumans release a mist that it's actually killing people, they do nothing?

Giovyodos It's all in the writing. You aren't using those stories again, you're using those characters again. Heck, if I'm being honest Genesis and the Apoc twins were similar to previous Apoc stories, as was the Dark Angel saga, but all of them were pretty good because a good writer knows how to craft a story to be interesting, despite or perhaps sometimes in spite of cliche or audience expectation.
Look at how many good stories we've gotten out of something as generic as the purifiers. Church zealotry...oh my...and yet the hits keep on keeping on.
This was the strongest case for what Marvel was doing. Trying to decrease the popularity of the X-Men while raising the profile of the Inhumans. I still think that most of the actions on both sides make no sense.
I think the Cyclops death spiral is the best thing Marvel has ever done. How organically it happened over 20 years is a testament to the medium. I know it makes a lot of Cyclops fans mad, but the brilliance of the storyline is that they were just dealing with what was already written. Cyclops was self-righteous, obsessed with leadership, persecuted, unfaithful and shiftless for most of the 90s. After Grant Morrison tore him down and put him with Emma Frost, the rest just fell into place.
I don't really follow marvel or the X-Men but I was under the impression that the mutants were some of marvel most popular characters why would they try to kill them off? 😕
X-Men and X-related comics were once very popular and best selling comics Marvel had, which is why Fox paid a lot of money for the movie rights. Marvel wants the rights back. They've been ruining the X-Men comics. Marvel pulled all their best writers and artists from X-series. They've been trying to force the Inhumans to the top to replace the X-Men but it hasn't worked. Now they just want to kill as many X-Men as possible. The new mist has even sterilized some mutants so new mutants won't be born.

He is comic book fan. The problem is Perlmutter, the CEO. He's the one that's been pushing the Inhumans in the comics and on TV. He's the one that had the X-series pushed to the back. He's the one Fiege fought to get away from. Fiege runs the movies. Feige didn't want to do a Inhumans movie so Perlmutter is bringing it to TV. Fox originally wanted to do a "real" X-men tv show, but instead they got to do Legion. Seriously, Legion, it's good thing it's on FX now they can have an excuse for the ratings being bad.

Cyclops will always be my favourite X man... while all other mutants only cared about themselves he has always tried to do whats best for mutant kind... i personally believe marvel killing off the x men is bigger than just trying to get back the rights from fox.... Mutants are the most reality based comic heroes because they are a minority like black ppl and latinos in america more so like black ppl fighting for respect and equality not trying to make it a race thing but professor x can be compared to martin luther and cyclops malcom x even magneto can be compared to mlk but maybe im just seeing something thats not there but to me thats the real reason the x men movies never worked on the big screen, x men are supposed to be the realest of all the comic movies like how they did watchmen....
