*Mutant Community after M World (Scarlet's Witch fantasy)*: "Damn...ok well that sucked...at least the worst part's over now." *Matthew Malloy*: ...yeah...about that.
I find it hilarious how Jean Grey is one of the most powerful characters in the marvel universe in terms of comics, but in the X-Men animated series, she would pass out after reading a single person's mind.
Yeah, in the comics she was super weak too due to lack of control. The Phoenix Saga allowed her to gain higher levels of power in the comics. Not so much in the 90's cartoon.
@@harley8047 they had to reduce her power because she had two of the most powerful abilities of all: telepathy AND telekinesis. who needs cyclops and storm and rogue when you have a very powerful telekinetic? she's currently very powerful in the comics (even without the phoenix force), and i honestly find her annoying. she's just one-shotting a lot of people.🙄 i liked her when she had omega-level telepathy and normal telekinesis, but she now seems to have near omega-level telekinesis as well.
@@thispersonrighthere9024 you realize, Jean Grey can't multitask? You never see her use telekinesis and telepathy at the same time! She has to focus more mental energy into 1 or the other.
I don't really like this story or Grant Morrison that much, but Xmen 97 has been handling these stories in a very short and tasteful manner so i'll bite into it.
Man I remember picking this one up when I was 11 as one of my first ever experiences with comics. I had no idea what I was getting into. The art style made it a-lot more grotesque, it worked well for this story but not many others.
Rob, I'm one of the few who loved the "Here comes tomorrow" storyline. Since it touches on Sublime, Cassandra Nova, and what's left of the Mutants race, I think it'll be a great addition to throwback Thursday.
That image at 10:10 with Daredevil and the red X on top, it almost feels like a funny coincidence for Cyclops' future look. Thanks for another great vid Rob.
Another job well done, Rob. I love how detailed your backgrounds are on your stories. There's a lot of comic book guys out there, but you are certainly one of the very few that give full backgrounds on the environments of the stories. Such as what's going on in the development of the comic book, but also the supporting storylines that help better understand the contexts of these runs. Kudos, dude. :-) And though I'm not a fan of the art work here with Grant Morrison, I do really like his writing.
27:27 I remember I was sat on the couch reading this a while back when I got to this panel. My sister walks past, looks at this panel and whispers to herself 'Ew. Bald chick.'
*X-Files music, typing furiously* "He said 'Alan Scott'...he's a pastor...published multi-step processes of violent-free transformation...references Bibles verses about abstaining from harming others...PEACE!!!"
A good review of the story. On the subject of "secondary mutation" you didn't mention that beast also has gone through the process as well. Aside from his cat-like appearance, he also has highly developed senses, a healing factor and can generate pheromones.
Chris Claremont: "let me build this huge world of mutants and intricate stories about their society." Grant Morrison "Bro, bro, you meant to only have a couple hero's, don't worry I got this"
90s Marvel was basically ONLY X-Men. Jim Lee came onto the Scene in a HUGE way and his art COMPLETELY changed how we saw the X-Men. Everything else; Avengers, Defenders and Spiderman were all being written and drawn very poorly. It's no wonder that they almost went under. Now MCU Dominates the general public.
Huge fan rob, as always great explanation I am finally really able to connect to comic books like i was never able too, you are an answer to a problem that has plagued me for years. Keep up the good work .
thank you for getting me into comics! its coincidental that you put a kyle rayner video out after i buy the godhead story from green lanterns and the new gods. Anyway thanks for the awesome content!!!
Hey Rob, anthropology major here. Just wanted to let you know what Morrison actually took the more scientifically accepted depiction of prehistory. As humans pushed out of Africa, competition pressure actually did push the neanderthals to extinction. Yes, there was a small amount of admixture between the two, but it was minimal as it only accounts for 2-4%, at best, of an individual. That means only a very small subset of neanderthals had the chance to mate with humans. Also, neanderthal DNA is not present in many groups of humans. You're doing great, but I figure you'd appreciate clarification when possible.
Oh man that was awesome! I gotta know more, I'd love to have you cover this run. I have the sudden urge to learn more about this Cassandra Nova, but I'm worried you'll do more videos and I don't want to spoil anything.
29:08. I think an error was made while making the script, Rob... "Nothing Emma frost can do will affect her." I thought it should be "Nothing Cassandra Nova can do will her." Though this might be pointless cause this was posted 2 years ago.
One thing which was creepy at the time ( which may be lost on many due to the way marvel listed this Issues release month ) was that this issue came out around 911. Later in the issue,Breast and some men as seen in panels eerily similar to the destruction televised on that terrible day. Pure coincidence, but a shock at the time.
I'm a little confused about who's the cause of the massacre in 97. Because Cable specifically said he, not she (Cassandra). So, is the show taking a different take on the arc or what?
I think it's very satisfying to see Charles Xavier confess that he's a mutant. It just seems right for him not to lie for the sake of hiding from prejudice.
"A bit" too dark storyline for me, and if I remember right I soon after the appearance of Cassandra Nova I quit reading the X-Men (I remember Cyclops being possessed by Apocalypse being some of the last stories I really read). 70's, 80's and early 90's joyful Chris Claremont times for me, thanks. And I'm not also fond how 16 million mutants were OK to wipe out in story purposes, but Wolverine etc. can't be killed off no matter what. (In The Days of The Future Past he was killed by a Sentinel, but what I've heard he can now regenerate from a single drop of blood. Okay, the excitement and drama is that old Logan is OP as f*ck?)
Y'all know why we're back here in 2024... Remember it 😢
Right in the feels man
Tragedy really is the highest form of storytelling.
Best ep of x-men ever

I…I can’t feel you 😢

*Matthew Malloy*: ...yeah...about that.
Well after hope: it seems the worst is over ohhh but wait *terrigan clouds* bursts onto the screen
It just keeps getting better and better.
Oh and lets not forget before some of this Cyclops killed Charles............And this is possibly due to petty shit with movies >_>
kahzhoex You left out Norman Osborn and Bastion.
I find it hilarious how Jean Grey is one of the most powerful characters in the marvel universe in terms of comics, but in the X-Men animated series, she would pass out after reading a single person's mind.

If this were the 90s, the X would stand for Xtinction
um...x-men 97??????
Chris Claremont, Grant Morrison, and Joss Whedon runs are my favorite X-men runs ever.
They defined modern X-Men
Who’s here after X-Men 97 episode 5?
Guilty! 😂
yes
I don't really like this story or Grant Morrison that much, but Xmen 97 has been handling these stories in a very short and tasteful manner so i'll bite into it.
Feel the same but the story is what brought me back to the comics in the early 2000s
The x men 97 episode has me here🎉they cooking
Amazing show 🔥
You know the art is bad when "Ugly John" looks good.
Man I remember picking this one up when I was 11 as one of my first ever experiences with comics. I had no idea what I was getting into. The art style made it a-lot more grotesque, it worked well for this story but not many others.

I like how timeless your narration of this content is, keep up the great work.
It really is even in 2021
That image at 10:10 with Daredevil and the red X on top, it almost feels like a funny coincidence for Cyclops' future look. Thanks for another great vid Rob.
Anyone else here due to X-men 97 episode 5?
That's me
Yep
Me
What if it is her, and Charles comes back and kills her like that at the end of the season 😳
Had to time slide real quick

I really loved Grant Morrison's version of the X-Men but never got to finish this series. Thanks for this, Rob!
I was lucky this is the era of comics when I was a teenager, x-men at this time was absolutely amazing.
One of my favorite X-Men comic book runs (Grant Morrison helped me appreciate the X-Men more)
Every time he says Donald Trask, I keep thinking that he's getting ready to say Donald Trump
i was just about to say that
We're gonna build a wall around Genosha.
Deport all the mutants.
MartianManFromMars
Kept on thinking he was going to Genosia.
And make Charles pay for it.
Professor X cant " just walk out "
His legs dont work
Reading well written comics with Frank Quitely art is like eating a fine meal while someone is farting on your neck.
Mmm, the best of times.
I actually like Frank Quitely's art style. It's... Unique.
Thumbs down. Thumbs down. THUMBS DOWN.
😂😂😂😂

Oh my god, i remember this run SO well but due to the madness (and artwork) I was half convinced i'd dreamed it up! XD
You know why you are here
*X-Files music, typing furiously* "He said 'Alan Scott'...he's a pastor...published multi-step processes of violent-free transformation...references Bibles verses about abstaining from harming others...PEACE!!!"
this art alone could kill 16 million mutants.....
Cyclops is making a duck face
Logan Smith if you think this is bad you should look at what Kia Asamiya did next for uncanny xmen.
No doubt this awful art was one of the reasons i stopped my subscriptions. BLEEEH
Early-mid 2000s Marvel was so ugly. Planet Hulk is so fucking saturated.
Matt Higgins i thought youre saturated
Awesome, this is one of my favorite X-Stories.This run was where I really started to pay attention to Cyclops
Hell yes! Coming next, Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men!!!
Good thing this was uploaded when I was early to school so I can watch it.
Great material Rob! please finish off this run and lead us into the new x men run! Also, a Cassandra nova explained video would be great! =)
A good review of the story. On the subject of "secondary mutation" you didn't mention that beast also has gone through the process as well. Aside from his cat-like appearance, he also has highly developed senses, a healing factor and can generate pheromones.
Grant Morrison is by far my favorite comic book writer, and for some reason I feel like Sam Keith would have been the perfect artist for this.
rob please continue. this is better then any audio novel. more more more more more please
Chris Claremont: "let me build this huge world of mutants and intricate stories about their society."
Grant Morrison "Bro, bro, you meant to only have a couple hero's, don't worry I got this"
Nice correction on the Neanderthal facts, Rob. As an anthropologist, that really warmed my heart and makes me happy I'm subbed to you.
But he was doubting evolution!
Nice. Please can you cover some runs of Thor after Ragnarok?
Not sure why everyone's hating on frank quietly's art. He's a great artist and got even better on batman and robin
collin corbean
Love his art!!
collin corbean
The Quitely issue of Multiversity is his art at its best!!!
collin corbean the characters look like dog shit or some kind of parody shit. it's atrocious.
Cause the faces look like ass, I could draw better than this shit

After yesterday's X-Men 97 episode, I had to come looking for answers!!!!
Quesada is an artist, he wrote and drew Daredevil: Father, but he mostly just drew comics! But great video, dude! Thanks!
WOW this is happen now on Xmen 97
Fun fact, Humans share DNA with at least 2 archaic species, Neanderthals and Denisovans
Huge fan rob, as always great explanation I am finally really able to connect to comic books like i was never able too, you are an answer to a problem that has plagued me for years. Keep up the good work .
good morning Rob! Plz do the avengers jet vs the xmens jet! which is the better jet?
Rob explains comics your videos are bad ass, good job.
Ugh... I hope one day we actually get a movie that showcases Cyclops and Emma Frost, they're so interesting.
Love the run, hate the art
RNDS 24 I like the art, its unique
RNDS 24 i love Quietlys art, it gives the ilusion that the characters are actually moving for me
The art work always reminded me of the Captain Stern story from the Heavy Metal animated movie.
At first everybody kinda looked like sylvester stallone, but it grew on me. I'd say it's great art; just different.
hobomanchild just different, ;) would u say its all new all different XD, sorry this was a terrible joke :(
thank you for getting me into comics! its coincidental that you put a kyle rayner video out after i buy the godhead story from green lanterns and the new gods. Anyway thanks for the awesome content!!!

Not the same without the infamous 'peace' at the end lol great vid, as always. keep it up
I can’t get over of the idea that summers and handsome squidward look the same.
I would like a video discussing all the variations and history of sentinels. The originals these wild ones, nimrod and bastion.
All of them.
Oh man that was awesome! I gotta know more, I'd love to have you cover this run. I have the sudden urge to learn more about this Cassandra Nova, but I'm worried you'll do more videos and I don't want to spoil anything.
what was Magnetos reaction to all those deaths? plz continue this "storyline"!
Shokaru Sylium he supposedly died in genosha, but search for it i dont want to spoil it for you
You saw that "fist with wings" that made a skyscraper blow up? That was aimed at Magneto...
Loving your extended videos. All that's missing is the theme 😉 ALAN SCOTT!!
Tying this in with some marvel history was a nice touch!
I have been waiting for you to do that store on Cassandra Nova forever. She's a great character that when not used too much can be a great antagonist.
Great video Rob! Can you give us more of Grant Morrison's run on the X-Men??? oh hey what happened to Hope Summers in ANAD Marvel?
Great work as always Rob!
good job on 800k rob
i really love xmen, i loved Morrisons run on it. hope you do more of his stuff in the future
will you cover necrosha sometime in the future? because thats where negasonic warhead comes back from the dead lolol love that story arc aaaaa looottt

Awesome video! Is it possible for you to continue this and do the entire grant morrisins new x-men run??
was this after house of m? robs the best! this channels the best. thanks for getting me back into comics
Finally got this story, been waiting on it
Awesome video! Ever thought about covering Doom Patrol? When you mentioned it in this video my heart skipped a beat.
The wild sentinels are described as the ones in the movie with Peter Dinklage
Negasonic Teenage Warhead was brought back as a villain in Joss Whedon's X-men run.
Great video so far, the commentary amazing.
Another great narration.
You doing the story of The Twelve next?
A Speedball/Penance and/or New Warriors discussion would be fun!
Inhumans suck, bring back the mutants. They were highest sellers every.
Edward Parreno as soon as fox sells the movie rights back to marvel...
+Tom Greenfield If they do 😒 they know they wont have much after they do.
Talking of Apocalypse would you be able to discuss how the Hulk became War? As Apocalypse usually only targets Mutants in general.
YEEES!! Probably my most favorite X-Men run! Great coverage! Any chance of covering image comics?
Rob! PLEASE do Grant Morrison's run of DOOM PATROL!!! I love your videos and this one would be a winner.
