      Fer Zum at this point I'm begging for a reboot of sorts from marvel. Honestly, 90% of their titles are garbage now. I used to love nearly all their stuff and be a huge fanboy, but now i favour DC comics far more. I want to read about classic characters, like Tony Stark, not the two new iron man/woman. I understand they introduce these new characters which is great but don't get rid of classic characters or just change them up completely like Peter Parker who now is more of a tony stark character with his own company. And why on gods earth did the merge all the universes in secret wars?! For example, Miles being THE spiderman in his own universe is far better than having Peter, miles, gwen as well as many others all spiderman on one universe. Vent over.

    • @dakotamorgan917
      @dakotamorgan917 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Seriously. Replying to both your and and F00KIN N00TIN's comments. First of all, how in the fuck are they gonna kill Bruce Banner, AKA the Hulk, with a damn arrow? I know he wasn't supposed to be able to turn into Hulk at the time, but hell, he was halfway through getting his transformation back again. In reality, he was only killed off because, just like the last Civil War, Marvel didn't want the outcome to be that whichever team he was on won. In ANY other storyline, he would have just overridden the no-transformation thing and then when attention feel back on him, it would show his eyes glowing neon green, then he would say some line,turn into Hulk and start beating whoever shot or attacked him to a pulp. I mean, realistically, Banner would never just die from an arrow. The just had him die for the purposes of the story. They missed a great opportunity, too. They could have him get pretty pissed and go off against Blue Marvel, like how he fought Sentry in WWH after the original Civil War. Blue Marvel would be a great opponent for him too, because at first he could be shown being beaten half to death by Blue, who is muchhh more powerful and strong than a baseline Hulk, and then he could be shown getting really angry and laying Blue out.

    • @thefookinchamptfc
      @thefookinchamptfc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grim Lock Exactly it's like how are you going to allow someone as powerful as Blue Marvel to be on one side without having someone to match him on the other? Imagine the Hulk just running through one team and they all just struggle to stop him as well. The fucking carnage that every Hulk fan loves but no they decide to make the Hulk a fuckboi like amadeus cho

    • @dakotamorgan917
      @dakotamorgan917 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Seriously! I mean, you saw what happened to Luke Cage and Nova. Why would they even have Luke go up against Blue? Its just stupid! Blue Marvel is basically a black, slightly less powerful Sentry, depending on who you ask. And they are going to put him against a character that can't even stand up to a freshly turned Hulk? Just bad writing. I do think what they did, showing Nova blast him and him not be affected, was a good way to show his power level to readers who don't know much about him though. But really, having BM on one side and having no good antithesis to really oppose him on the other side was just bad writing. I mean, BM already isn't that well known generally, why hurt him even more by having him in a crappy, poorly matched, barely-worth-penciling-in fight where basically all he does is knock the shit out of Luke Cage and then get blasted, and subsequently chase Nova?

    What always strikes me in these confrontations is none of the superheroes never approach it calmly. They never approach it in a non-threatening, explanatory way. What would have happened with Banner if Danvers and Stark came in and said we have some info we need to share with you. We are afraid, they would say, and we need your help to reassure us. Now granted when confronting Thanos little short of tactical nukes is SOP, but in talking to Ulysses stay calm and keep it calm. In emergency situations, you want everyone staying focused but calm. Doctors and nurses NEVER run in the ER; too much potential for further injury or mayhem. They walk....with purpose. When talking to suicidal people, you are calm and even toned. That's what the "right stuff" is with airline pilots, don't panic and solve the problem.....as many times as it takes.

      I have to disagree. I loved the first Civil War story. Primarily because the stakes felt really and the conflict was genuine. My only problem is that they made Iron Man a little too aggressive. But i'm curious, what exactly didn't you like about the story ?

    • @RuffWarl0ck
      @RuffWarl0ck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hannibal Rasberry I never really felt torn between choosing sides in the first (or second) Civil War event (Tony Stark being a mega-asshole REALLY didn't help). All the civilians in the story felt unbelievably ungrateful to all the heroes in the story out of nowhere (despite said heroes saving their sorry hides time and time again for DECADES from multiple supervillains big and small, cataclysmic events and the like). And the ending was very anti-climatic. That ending was no bueno. This story left with most people HATING Tony Stark WITH A PASSION (so much so that Marvel had to do a "soft reboot" of sorts with his character by the time the Siege event was occurring), and it should not have been that way. This story made it very apparent that the people siding with the "Pro-Registration" were in the "wrong", while the "Anti-Registration" people were in the "right", which also should not have been that way. Readers should have felt torn between which sides that they should align with like a parent choosing their favourite child. I can say that Captain America Civil War used this concept a little better, but there are still some things that I would have tweaked that I believe would have truly felt like the shit was TRULY hitting the fan and would keep the audience captivated from start to finish.

    19:45 if you’re forcing people to register based on the actions of others, you’re punishing them for crimes they have not committed, the principles of Cara danvers and tony stark are the same: restrict individuals freedoms for the greater good. They’re both wrong, and neither of them have merit if you value the basic principle of freedom being the most important value.

    Civil War 1 posed a good moral vs logic dilemma, and I respect both sides. Personally I was team Cap. Just like the mutant registration act, many super powered people in Marvel didn't ask for their powers, and many become heroes at their own peril. Basically it was asking people to register to live because they were born a certain way, or accidentally gained powers. The problem is Marvel has some great hackers. How long until a LMD sneaks into SHIELD, and sells the list of super hero identities to the highest bidder.
    When that happens it's not just the hero, but their lover, or family at risk. They wear masks for a reason. I get the argument that it's dangerous to let a guy with explosion powers walk around. It also ties into the argument here. Do you force people to put themselves potentially in harms way because they can do something, even though they may choose not to use their powers. Do you potentially out them to fear, and ridicule of the populace, or risk of kidnap or death from Hydra wanting to brainwash them into Hydra agents. Then of course if you say no you're imprisoned, like a superhero draft.
    My solution would be to register, and imprison actual criminals as they commit crimes. Offer benefits to registration, like financial support, or legal help if something goes wrong, but make it optional. Instead Stark went straight, sign up or we beat you down then sign you up regardless.

    Yeah, i think is the best way to put it.

    Thank you for this. I'm pretty sure I didn't ask of you for this video, but it helps me understand the circumstances of Civil War II and the basis around the conflict. I enjoy watching your videos because they give me a better understanding of what's going on in different comic storylines or among various charaters. Before watching this video, I thought Captain Marvel was wrong in her thinking about Ulysses and his visions. Now, I still think she is wrong but I understand her stance. Again, Thank you, Rob. I greatly appreciate you for the content you produce. I kind of hope that, as my own channel grows and I add more content to it, I'll be as helpful to others as you are to comic book readers.

    26:36 I think I remember Steve Rogers manipulating that situation where that banker lady got arrested, making her look like a Hydra agent. To cause more conflict and distrust among the Avengers by showing Ulysses' visions are inaccurate. But I'm not sure about that.

    The good thing about these events is, you look on which side Tony is standing and you can be sure the opposite is the morally more right side. The issue on Captain Marvel's side is that she's taking the visions the wrong way: instead of using them to prepare themselves better, to anticipate, she uses them to do preemptive justice which will never work.

    • @DavidbarZeus1
      @DavidbarZeus1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except Tony IS in the right here. He's willing to use the visions, but he wants to UNDERSTAND how the visions work. Think of it like this: Ulysses got a vision of a woman being a Hydra agent and bombing a place. Marvel took the vision as gospel and had her arrested with no legal grounding for the arrest. Stark would have had her bugged, followed or both, and when the evidence came in, THEN he would have acted. Carol trusted the visions full force, Stark decided the best bet was 'trust, but verify,' which makes a lot more sense when dealing with visions of the future. Any and all visions of the future must be taken as what MAY happen, because the future isn't set in stone and it never can be. Because it IS the future, by its nature, it can be changed

    • @DavidbarZeus1
      @DavidbarZeus1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Voltra_ Tony didn’t do anything because he didn’t know. Ulysses was only working with Marvel because Marvel trusted his visions. If Stark had been the one who was told, things would have played out differently

    For the curious: the technical name for Ulysses's power is "hypercognition" (although it's a really, really advanced form of it, with his unconscious sensory abilities).

    Great video!
    But it seems like once again Marvel is taking an interesting moral question and having one side slide into evil because all these hero stories winds up being good vs evil. You can't have Danvers say "If't is Galactus, we need to be aware of anything above 10% because of his threat level. If it's a Hydra spy it's 95%." or whatever. The idea that there can be different margins of error depending on the circumstances never comes up. We saw this in the first Civil War too. Yes, superheroes should be licenced and trained like doctors and police officers but Stark went way too far.

      @charleshixon5497 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, Marvel likes to hit us with a moral compass, but I understood with the 1st Civil War, it's just with this one that the reasoning Carol had annoyed the hell outta me.

    Lol@ the creepy Old Man Logan comment. I totally agree, but I can understand his uber-creepin'. She was the love of his life and he was deeestroyed when she died. This is basically the cornerstone of his heart being dangled before him. It's just too bad all he has may be some kind of GILF status ;)

    20:30 if your argument is that freedom isn’t valuable if it leads to self destruction then Cara Danvers is abiding by that logic. What use is allowing people to commit crimes when you can arrest them before it happens, in other words: “what use is freedom if the society decides to destroy itself with it”. If you’re in Tony’s side in civil war, then on principle you should be on captain marvels side. Jeez

    I've always believed Marvel was usually better at philosophical conflicts.. be it Mutant Human ( a great running commentary are discrimination for any reason), killing versus non killing, the Armor Wars, Civil Wars, Secret Wars (original and new), and so on. One thing I liked about both Marvel and DC was the fact, with all these super powered individuals around, you had normal (thought at the physical and mental peak of such.. or in some cases just in decent shape) humans holding their own in the super hero communities and how even when losing powers, one could still be a hero (Storm is the biggest example). Then there were conflicts, like between Wolverine and Cyclops over the use of X 23 where Wolverine was protecting her and Cyclops wanting to turn her into his chief assassin... speaking of which... My idea for one of these videos... Wolverine's almost unnatural ability to mentor other's and attract others as well... is it he has pheromones like Draken and just has no control over them that start it.. people see in him someone they can actually trust... animal magnetism... something. he's not the nicest hero or even villain, but he constantly ends up with those needing help one way or another(Kitty Pryde) , or saved by them and having a new side kick (Jubilee)... even the movies showed this with his relationship with Rogue. I mean he could have the catch phrase "I'm the best at what I do and what I do best is being Uncle Logan...".. Next..why his love stories always end tragically... I mean if William Shakespeare lived today he would be working on 'Logan the love Tragedy 321 the ongoing tragic demise of his lovers..."
