@@88phantasmagoria he is considered a blank slate protagonist, just to a lighter degree. You get a shred of personality from his dialogue options, but the playerbis meant to emulate themselves within the character. Thats how most persona games are, but 2 has Tatsuya, which is a little different

I kinda had the idea that the personas are less the full, true self but some core aspect that is shinning through. Only by embracing this part they had hide to fit in can they really bring out their full power. The face they show society is not a false self but an incomplete self. The persona is what makes them whole.
I'm still disappointed that Joker not once did call Zenkichi "Gramps" like the rest. He's definitely the type to milk that shit.

I could talk all day about how much personality joker has, xander mobuis is a beyond fantastic va and milks every single second he gets dialogue for joker, I appreciate how Atlus try’s to opt for a personality but essentially a blank slate for you to be more invested in the game, but I think it’s time they do away with that, i can not wait for p5 arena when joker gets full dialogue people will fall in love with him even more than p5 the animation

Xander Mobus and the English Cast made P5 the Animation passable. Considering that P5A was actually pretty horrible as a means of conveying the story of Persona 5.

Zenkichi is well-versed in hundreds of manners and moments to kidnap and torture Owada
He literally speaks the most and is the most expressive thorough his animations out of the persona protagonists
Depends on the game. P3MC and P4MC both talk quite a bit in PQ and PQ2 (where Joker is still silent) and Yu has massive amounts of inner dialogue in the Arena games. Both of them also are much more articulate in their respective animated series than Ren is.

For a silent protagonist, I think they do a pretty good job of characterizing him outside the optional stuff too like when he does that crazy, over the top dance in Royal without any input from the player.
@@xenfast130 People just ignore all the cutscenes, too. The man's got incomparable swagger, and his confidence is through the roof. He has a blast putting villains in their place in the most embarrassing ways possible. He's like a DMC character got lost and wound up in Persona somehow.
Atlus is really good at giving their silent protags personality. Joker is like a cocktail theater kid that has a good bit of swag to him. So he's super dramatic but also just has this way of making the crazy things he manages to do look easy. He's also a massive troll

Link should've talked at least a little in breathe if the wild. Maybe they could've gotten away with it if the others hadn't been voiced.
Either had him talk a little in the past where he used to talk a bit more with his allies/friends, to differentiate the blank slate you play as for so much of the game (till he reclaims some or all of his memories).
Or the reverse, where he talks a little in the present to show how completely different he is from other links in the series without his memories

One of the saving graces is that for Ryuji they got a really super duper popular voice actor as well, consistently in top 10 most popular voice actors, (Miyano Mamoru), but still, JUST WHY
I wanna see some stuff like FFXV where the protagonist feels more separate from you and speaks a tonne. As well as all the characters, with their fun dialogue and a friendship that feels real.

Apart from game dialogue options, the anime (yes I know its bad) also gives Joker more personality in there too. Joker’s smart and serious when needed be, but he can also be bit of a dramatic dork messing around

I really wish ATLUS would abandon the Everyman character they think they’re trying to push when literally every protagonist has a pretty clear personality. The closest you get to “Everyman” would be P1’s protag and even so his character in the manga is really fun. Every character some (especially best boi Tatsuya) has had a clear persona that matches the game, is shown in dialogue and cutscenes, and even in different media (game, anime, and manga) share overlapping characteristics.
They’re not blank slates, nobody can fit themselves into these protagonists no matter how “silent” they are due to the nature of the game, there’s no girl options, and you don’t have much freedom anyway cuz of how the game is made.
Rant aside, I really like joker’s character. He’s been allowed more freedom to express himself than almost all the protagonists besides Tatsuya, so he’s just so fun
Well I sort of agree with what you are saying, however, the core concept of a "wild card" (from persona 3 and onward) is a blank slate, someone who can become anything with the right influence, the fool's journey, so I feel like it might be different? idk
I haven’t played persona 1 innocent sin or eternal night yet but I’d say Yu has the most character given out of the three pro tags simply cause he is actually allowed to speak in his games after golden and his anime have him tons of character that was missed in p4
@@awesomegamer-cv4zf the fool's journey just means that the character grows through the story, not that it was literally a blank slate. While The Fool card means a new beginning, and a fresh start, in personality readings it means innocence (from someone learning, the Joker that helped the woman at the beginning) spontaneity and eccentricity. Throughout the story, we explore some old aspects of his personality and some new ones. We are not raising a blank slate, we're are developing a character. The wild card refers to the characters as blank slates, but it probably refers to them before the core traits of their personality showed up. We never started the story with a baby, we started with a teenager who got some knowledge, some skill and some personality. He has to learn, but not from zero.
@@joaquinriosrodriguez7316 I haven't been an atlus fan for too long and have never played persona (or Shin Megami Tensei) myself personally but I have a lot of interest over the series, and your comment makes a lot of sense so personally after reading it I would agree (but just asking, if each protaganist has a clear persona that matches the game as you say then why don't they have it all the time or is it like Arsene where the initial persona of the protaganist will always be the core of their personality? :P)
I’m more or less able to portray my personality onto Joker BECAUSE of his funny dialogue options. I mostly say random stuff, regardless of whether it’s the time for it or not, so it’s always fun to pick what I would probably say and see the thieves reactions to it

The reason why a lot of people are thinking he has close to no personality, myself included, is because in the original P5, most of his sassy remarks are seen as the bad dialogue option, so it was pretty much discouraged to choose those, making Joker's dialogue seem boring compared to all of the previous Persona protagonists.
Strikers remedied that problem though by not having consequential dialogue options.
I mean there is no true canon personally for Joker since it depends on the dialogue. The fact that many people have to head canon his personality is proof of that, if he had personality like Ryuji or any of the others then nobody would head canon anything.
Have any of you seen the cinematics? You telling me smug and self-assured, daring and coy are not bits of a personality? What about the inciting incident of P5 to begin with? Alludes to a strong sense of responsibility and wanting to help others. And that's just the most obvious stuff. You can usually see the protagonists' personality in WHAT options are available to you, not just what you pick in-game.
You don't need to "head canon" anything if you're willing to actually read what's already there.
@@vetreas366 It's been almost 2 years since I played Persona 5, so I don't really remember now. I only remember thinking Joker felt bland compared to the other protagonists. Still, what I said about the dialogue options in Persona 5 do still ring true. I know because I used a guide for the dialogue options, and all the fun remarks are the ones that give the least or no social points.
However, we could still say that the non-consequential sassy remarks in Persona 5 during story dialogue count for his personality, I suppose
