Julie has a lovely strong voice, I enjoyed listening to this.
@@kimr3729 Yes Kim, she does. She has a gorgeous voice 🤩
This has always been my clear favourite version of the song .. I don't listen to a lot of this style of music, but Julie's voice here makes it a song I would gladly hear many times .. And despite the poor visual quality of the video, it was still great to see her performance .. A beautiful and classy lady .. Nice one, Sue.
@wayne_twentyfive so glad you enjoy this song, Wayne. She gave a flawless performance here...you are so right...so classy and what a voice 🤩💜
Thank you Sue - I really loved listening to Julie London and her voice is so rich and such a joy to let it reverberate through one's soul. Rather beautiful as well.
oh I love that, Willster...."reverberate through one's soul"....very poetic 😍
I had a 2CD set many years ago called That's Jazz & this version was on it. Fell in love with it & think Julie's version is the best!!! Just her voice & guitar.
Hey Ian, it is an amazing song. Her voice is incredible 🤩
Hi Sue, Julie retired from singing many years before my time. She appeared in some films & TV, as you said. She made many albums. Another of her great songs is Round Midnight.
I will have to check that one out, Dave. I don't know that one 😀
First heard this in the 60s still the best by a country mile 👍🇬🇧.
Hi Christine, it is a great song and Julie is an amazing singer 🤩
Her husband was Bobby
Troup who Route 66.
Another lady to check out is Peggy Lee. The old time Lounge Singers were just so great.
@P-M-869 yes Patrick...good suggestion 🤩
Have several albums of Ms London's and would listen to them on long road trips. Was so happy when modern artists released albums of Standards like Linda Ronstadt and Carly Simon. If you can find a copy of the Cd ,"The Glory of Gershwin" give it a listen. Gershwin sang by artists like Cher, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Elvis Costello, Carly Simon and more.
@davidgiles5912 thanks David very cool 🤩
Her Husband played the Doctor on the same show
@haroldmorey1107 very cool, Harold. I didn't kmow that 🤩
Jazz request Annette Hanshaw- Am I Blue?
This was absolutely amazing
The accompaniment was spot on ; it is so much harder to play with this kind if restraint and tome and her voice is perfect
Another version of this song was ny an 80’s UK singer called Mari Wilson
Mari was a retro act , beehive hairdo and sometime jokey but man could she sing .
Check her out on TOTP doing Cry me a River or Just What I Always Wanted ( thats a fun one ) Tracy Ullman did some retro stuff around that time too with songs like They Don’t Know About Us
As to your point about the title entering our lexicon
Justin Timberlake had song of same name . I guess Hamilton should have copyrighted the phrase
Thanks Jesse, I haven't heard of Mari but I do know Tracey. I enjoyed Tracey's one album. I think you are right about copyrighting the phrase haha. Wasn't Julie magnificent?!....so beautifully done 😍
You cant teach what Julie had
@@jessem470 No you can not....a true gift 🤩
Yes Jesse, Mari Wilson's song "Just What I Always Wanted" is great .. I heard it a lot on an alternative radio station in Oz, and really liked it .. Didn't hear much else of hers, but from the videos I saw, she was a fun and talented performer.
As for Tracey Ullman, like Sue, I also enjoyed that excellent and very successful debut album of hers "You Broke My Heart In 17 Places" .. There were quite a few retro songs on it, including many covers of cool 60s songs, but I wouldn't really call "They Don't Know" retro .. That song was originally done in 1979 ( only 4 years before Tracey's version ) by the wonderful singer / songwriter, Kirsty MacColl .. Her version ( of which I bought the single ) is one of my very favourite songs .. Your musical knowledge is very wide, Jesse, so I'm sure you would be very familiar with Kirsty's work .. I feel she was very much under-rated .. And BTW, the title song "You Broke My Heart In Seventeen Places" is another great Kirsty-written song which sadly she never released herself .. There's a video on YT of her performing it live at some venue, but the crowd noise makes it very hard to hear her properly .. Still worth watching if you are a fan of the song .. Cheers, mate.
@@wayne_twentyfive hi Wayne
Yes i know Kirsty very well from her vesion of Billy Bragg’s New England to her spectacular duet with Shane on Fairytale of New York
Such a tragedy we lost her so young
